Ha, yes, Vince was utterly horrid too, and Rose DeVille would often lambast him loudly by calling him a "ninny" or a "stupid fool".  They were like "Honest John" & "Gideon" in Pinocchio, that terrible fox & cat who were always trying to hoodwink Pinocchio.  They typically escaped at the last minute, presumably because Bill Bell had hopes of using them yet again at some point in the future.  He could've easily tied them to the crime syndicate storyline in the early 1980s, but he declined, probably because he'd have to kill them off in a shoot-out.  He waited until all of the mob storylines were over, and they came crawling up again circa 1986 to hold expectant mothers hostage & sell black-market babies -- a crime they could potentially escape from.

They went to jail in 1980, which was when the "kill switch" for Cy the assassin went off for Greg which resulted in Liz being shot. Maybe they were there for 6 years. I don't think it's ever mentioned.

Can't remember if they went to prison in 1979 for the sex trafficking. If they did it must have been a light sentence since they were back at it a couple of months later.

Haha yeah, I do see the "Honest John and Gideon" comparison!

Funny enough Pinocchio must have driven some inspiration for Bill Bell, and writing for Rose, since the movie deals with child trafficking. Thankfully we didn't get any of that on the show.

In 1995 I think the show was about to revisit the whole Rose angle, or at least they were toying with bringing on Nina's stolen baby....I wish Bill Bell would have gone through with that and had Darlene C. come over from B&B to reprise playing Rose....For an even better twist, maybe he could have had it that Matt Clark was a great nephew of Rose's and was using him as some sort of revenge on Nikki, and her entire family, so that all the stories involving Rose from the past could have climaxed into an epic finale.

Thanks! I forget little details like that, and I thought it was Vince who shot Liz.

I noticed that during the early years of Sally circa 1988-91 Sally did seem a more serious threat and felt like a semi-crime boss running Spectra Fashions, but eventually a lot more endearment and humor was added to the Spectra mix.

Darlene did fantastic in both roles, playing nasty and scary Rose while playing larger than life and lovable Sally.

@YRfan23 Don’t forget Sally once spooked the living daylights out of Sheila when Sally issued a death threat.

Not so long ago, I was re-watching one of Sally Spectra's first scenes.  She was having lunch in a restaurant with Stephanie Forrester.  Sally kept making empty promises that she would make a LARGE DONATION (I believe the amount mentioned was $10,000) to one of Mrs. Forrester's charities, possibly a children's hospital.  You could tell right away that Sally didn't have the money and wasn't a philanthropist by nature.  Mrs. Forrester tossed Sally her fountain pen and encouraged Sally to go ahead and write the check.  Sally frowned, dug around in her purse and said, "I seeeeeem to have forgotten my checkbook."

Right from the start, she was Rose DeVille 2.0 -- a morally bankrupt thief who was illegally stealing intellectual property from the Forresters, didn't have the social skills to conduct herself around "Queen Stephanie", and was as broke as a church mouse, pretending she'd forgotten her checkbook to weasel out of making a donation.

As you said, she became more endearing and humorous over the years (and also wealthier), but in her earliest incarnation on B&B, she was almost as broke financially, socially, and culturally as Rose DeVille.

I loved this about Bill Bell. He didn't think that every question needs an answer. Sometimes characters and/or viewers have to just live with it.

You are right, this story defined Nina.

I wonder if the baby drama was written for Cricket's first pregnant friend Molly and then Bell saw Tricia Cast on Santa Barbara

    • Other than Soapnet I am trying to remember if I ever even saw it in syndication. I know I saw Dallas, Knots and Dynasty in syndication before Soapnet.
    • Dani's dress  https://wornontv.net/511259/ Brand page: https://onalaja.com/en-us/products/zusi-maxim-dress about the company: https://onalaja.com/en-us/pages/brand-story I don't think she has worn it before, this is her wardrobe so far: https://wornontv.net/beyond-the-gates/dani-dupree/
    • The preemptions helped me catch up. Watched the last two episodes today. Obviously fantastic stuff. Martin's acting was really great when he was confronting Ted. He's finally clickin. The look on Naomi and Chelsea's faces when Silk Press talked about Bill... but was she telling the truth? This does explain what I always wondered which is why Silk Press didn't just sue for child support. Hayley all scandalized that Ted had an affair like she isn't a ho. Vanessa all scandalized that Ted had an affair like she isn't a ho, and Doug being like "ummm... ?" but Vanessa having kind of a point, and this setting up a good dynamic that Doug isn't that cool with the arrangement (and, the B&B of it all, with the A storyline going and the B characters sitting around talking about it). That guy popping up to say "that much is true!" about Eva being locked in the closet. Nicole's understated acting and Eva's emotion. Ted not being able to handle Eva at the moment, but you get the sense he's not closed off to her completely. Andre and Eva's unexpected bonding was nice. The point made to Dani that she shouldn't be upset because Ted technically did what she wanted from Bill which was to recommit himself to the family after the affair.
    • Also, where has Dani worn this dress before? I recognize it, because the first time she had it on I was like why is my girl wearing party streamers. Then when I saw it yesterday, I was a little surprised that they were having Dani who pulls out 4 episodes in a single episode repeat a outfit so soon.

    • Claybon was okay. He has slightly improved, but he still needs more improvement.
    • I'd forgotten Milli and Ponzini were at AW. Ponzini would definitely qualify as a big success in his move over.  I do wonder how that came across, especially early on. Just from reading the story details it seems a bit like there wasn't much of a background for Pat beyond setting up the story with Tony and their secret child. But Jacqueline is such a strong presence, and the audience clearly embraced her. A shame AW never tried the second time around.
    • I do think Claybon has improved, but I still don't think he's anywhere near good. It may be his tone, which makes things come across as if he's narrating rather than dialoguing. I didn't even think his scene with Ted was very good although some seemed to disagree.  As for Maurice, I can only speak for myself. I mentioned Maurice as one of the weak actors along with the actors that play Chelsea, Naomi, and Martin from day one. That for me hasn't changed. I warmed to Maurice, because I thought he was improving in the good dad/husband stuff he was doing. I still don't want the actor to be replaced, which I have mentioned before as well. However, today confirmed what I said all those weeks ago that he's not the most skilled actors on the cast. He really struggled to get the emotion in those scenes today.
    • Garrett's Holly seems so different in her return stint than what I've seen of her original work as Holly, but that may just be down to Holly later having a sheen over her neuroses. I know some have said Deerfield's Holly was even more neurotic.  I remember the story Garrett told of how Deerfield would show up and watch her for a while after she took over the role. Deerfield supposedly did not want to leave GL and only did so because of her husband.  I think Tim left with some woman named Pam. Another we will likely never see. That whole period seems like a big transition before the Dobsons lock in on core characters. Robin returning as Hope could have been interesting. I wonder if she was already typecast as a bitch by this point, thanks to GH. Or maybe she wouldn't have wanted a long East Coast stint anyway (her RH stint was short-term). Thanks for transcribing the interview. I've seen a few of theirs but haven't watched in full. I guess this could have worked if they had claimed what they seemed to be setting up at the end of the story - that he had had a complete breakdown due to being abused as a child. I'm not saying it was the best idea but it certainly wasn't any worse than anything else on GL at that point.  Still, I think even if it hurt his career, he made the right decision for himself. He's still around, he looks healthy. And he has a great story people can remember him by. I'm glad I wasn't wrong about Wolf briefly playing Marian (sort of). I have forgotten so much yet that's what I remember...
