DAYS: Ken Corday Interview

I have no qualm with busting up supercouples. Point out to me another Jennifer pairing that's worked since the old days with Frankie and I'll consider it.

The fact is that Jack and Jennifer may have been on the show together in the last decade, but they spent most of their time either separated or barely used, thanks to Jim Reilly. There is no way to gauge their potential as a frontburner couple today without them being there, and they never, ever were frontloaded and burnt out like John and Marlena or Bo and Hope have been these last ten years to prove they were "used up." Why not bring on an Abby, try her out, and try out J&J on the center stage again? They haven't really had that in what, eight years? The four to six weeks before Jack's death in the SSK story does not count. Even Patch and Kayla's recent return got more of a chance than them.

I am not opposed to trying Jen with different men, but every single man they've ever cast other than Billy Warlock has been dreadful. And Ty Treadway, while a lovely man IRL, is not much of an actor, and I can't imagine Jen/Nice Dr. Ty will set the world on fire. So the question is, who else you got? Find someone better or bring back Jack. Better yet, do both.

I don´t think there needs to be any demand. We all know Jack will be back. Because getting involved with someone new isn´t a conflict. And the second after she gets involved with someone new the writers will start to wonder what next. They will need something lasting and effective (and cheap and easy to write). Of course, there isn´t anything more effective than bringing back Jack, love of her life and father of her two children, just when she believes she is really ready to move on.

That said, I think this time may be different and Jack will be back sooner, because they will have to deal with the fact Jennifer isn´t even divorced very quickly (she cannot have an affair). And the reason for his absence is so meaningless he can literally return any day. It seems she will be involved in the prison story atleast till February/March so anything after it is wide open.

I liked Jennifer and Peter Blake together when Missy Reeves was in the role. However, once Missy left the show that pairing lost its chemistry because Stephanie Cameron just wasn't Jennifer. I think the Jennifer recast and multiple Jack recasts hurt any story for Jack and Jennifer during those times.

Missy had good chemistry with Jason but even they didn´t get much story till Jack came back. Jennifer met him sometime in December, she already almost slept with him in mid Feb, they finally got together during May and Jack´s return was hinted almost immediatelly after. And it got much worse with Patrick and Frankie.

I liked her with Peter Blake. But somehow I don't think that's going to happen again.

I wonder if Ashford would really even consider a return. He seemed pretty ticked at the handling of his character the last couple of go-'rounds.

All this talk about supercouples has now made me wonder how Drake Hogestyn was so easily accepted in 1986, especially as Days made pretty much no bones about it from the start that he was going to be your next Roman. From what I gather of contemporary articles, the fans didn't take to Richard Cates (Rod Arrants), which might have been the reason he was killed off so quickly.

Ashford stated in a very recent SOD article that he would be willing to return. He has already talked to Gary Tomlin since it was announced that Reeves was returning. Tomlin told Ashford that if there's story for Jack they will contact him.
