In the past it's been said from "sources," I think, that it doesn't matter if OLTL is rating better than AMC and GH because those shows have more brand value. Isn't that what Daytime Confidential said last year?

I do wonder how long they are going to let this continue on with GH. There are no cards left to play. Every former golden child was brought back, endless explosions and death and shootings and SPECIAL GUEST STARS. What's left?

Solid and entertaining storytelling, friendships, strong female characters, a world without Sopranos wannabes.

AMC question: Were B&E the GL HWs who bragged how they spent hours drinking in a local watering hole, jotting down story ideas on cocktail napkins?

IMO, one reason Brenda's return hasn't worked is the same reason OLTL's "original Tina" return failed. Tina spent most of her time (until very near the end) in a foreign country doing an outlandish farce rather than in Llanview interacting with her family. It took too long to get Brenda back into PC. Then there's the fact that the wardrobe has been so drab for The Brenda. Guza's focus hasn't really been on Brenda but the neverending mob dramas of Sonny, Dante, Jason and Michael. I tuned in to see Brenda return to PC. But I tuned out again after 3 weeks and she wasn't even close to returning to PC. Sonny and the mob are exactly why I stopped watching GH years ago.

Yes, that was B&E.

I think that both Tina and Brenda have had poor writing, but I also think Andrea Evans did a good job, and she had a very difficult job, uniting the various personalities and men Tina had had since Andrea had left. VMG has seemed lost, and she has also lost the charisma which she had when she played Brenda before. The charisma was what really made her so popular, along with decent writing.

Now that Brenda is back, from most accounts the writing for her is awful, and she exists only to push agendas about Jason/Sonny/Dante and to be worshiped and protected.

I think the clothes are an attempt to hide how thin VMG has become. She said she has a health problem.

Is there something wrong with that? I say follow the inspiration.

It's always interesting to me to see what writers people like or hate and why. There's so much hate on this board for B&E and I completely understand that but for me they are the writers who 1.) wrote AMC's Jesse and Angie the reunion and wedding worthy of that supercouple and 2.) were the last writers on OLTL who wrote the character of John McBain as a real character instead of some plot point android airhog.

GH is #2 in 18-49 it's not going anywhere! If AMC goes before OLTL(Which seems likely) i hope One Life fans like Ryan/Greens/Kendall and maybe Zach because baby when AMC goes down 3 -5 AMC characters will end up in Lanview or OLTL will expand into Pine Valley. Could see La Lucci on recurring as well.

Then when OLTL does down Ryan/Greens/Rex and McBain wil end up in Port Charles.

Y&R ,B&B and GH will be the final 3.

I didn't know they wrote for OLTL.

I don't exactly love B&E but I did like their writing for Loving, some of The City, and some of their GL run. I also like that they brought back Angie and Jesse.

Probably my biggest issues with their work was what happened at GL and PC but then they still don't seem that bad to me.

Interesting that B&B and DAYS hit their audience highs on Wednesday. Coincidence? I don't think so. As far as brand value: Y&R, GH, AMC & DAYS. Let's face it: ATWT turns should've been there. Certainly more US viewers are familiar with that brand that B&B. I'm hoping that the OLTL holds on.

You'll see Ryan/Greenlee et al on GH before OLTL. Budig wouldn't return to AMC until Frons moved it to L.A. for her :D

As for Lucci...I think you overestimate ABC's investment in her at this point. I think they would have been perfectly happy if she had retired when the show moved west.

Forget the AMC vs. OLTL wars, the thing that should have both AMC and OLTL fans up in arms is the amount of money that GH gets to waste. Frons just shovels money its way, and this is the end result? Now GH will probably get even MORE of the budget for more prime-time has-beens and sweeps stunts. When AMC or OLTL drop they suffer cuts; when GH does it's "Oh oh! We better give them more money to turn things around".

AMC may be over-budget but nobody throws more money down the drain than Guza and Phelps.

You're right. GH is the problem. They bleed huge amounts of money and the stunts done to try to stop the bleeding have just made it worse. If ratings don't go up again significantly than their 18-49 demo is pretty much tied with OLTL. If GH stays it will not be based on great demos, it will be based more on the whole "brand" thing. Yet no one at ABC Daytime cares that Guza flushed that brand down the toilet.

    • I definitely think FV wanted to pair Kristina and Lucky.  Why else would Lucky decide to become a bartender at her stupid bar?  Lucky was a cop, a crusader?-whatever he was doing in Africa and all these years away.   It makes zero sense for him to just be content tending bar for some flakey girl he knew since she was born.  Have him work with Spinelli at PI firm or something.  There were also some scenes with Kristina and Lucky that seemed like the show was leaning in that direction.  I also suspect JJ was extremely unhappy with that idea lol. As far as Lulu, I certainly don't miss the JMB smug era.  I hate that BLQ looks like a poor, innocent victim being tortured by Lulu at every turn though.
    • I do think she's been pretty wrecked, having tried to kill someone in cold blood, letting her whole family (including the woman pregnant with her great-grandchild) get charged or questioned, and having no remorse, but it doesn't matter as much because Kathy has not existed as a character since Gillian's return anyway.  There are reasons to bring Max back, like Lauren and his not knowing he had a child with Linda, but he is exhausted, with Jake Wood phoning it in years before he left.  I am a little surprised about Zoe because Michelle Ryan said for years she didn't want to return, to the point of even asking the show to recast the role, but I guess this may only be a short stint. I wouldn't be shocked if they kill Zoe off.
    • HAHAHA. Yeah, that's my bad. I misread that line. Sorry about going into "Unnecessary" detail about my username. Anyway, I love the story behind your Username.    reading on my phone...

    • Completely agree with you. I think Bonita Brisker has been really good as Sharon. What Anita did was obviously awful, so she doesn't need to reign anything in. We're getting a good look at someone who's struggled in life compared to Anita "We're the Duprees!" Williams.   -- Anita is starting to look foolish for dredging all this up just so she  can get her ass back on stage. Is she so delusional she doesn't realize how she hurt Sharon and Tracy? -- Anita's line to Vernon "How can I expect Sharon to forgive me when I haven't forgiven myself" struck me as really selfish. After all that with Sharon, Anita again made it all about herself. -- Does anyone really believe Anita wants equal billing if the Articulettes reunite?  -- Colby Muhammad continues to be a standout. Her Kat more than holds her own with Leslie. -- The writing was very good for the father/daughter scene between Ted and Eva. It wasn't so good between Ted and Martin in their father/son scene. It didn't play like family to me, especially when Ted referred to "my wife" when talking about Nicole to Martin. -- Overall, a very solid show today.
    • I honestly do not see the point of Max coming back again. Zoe does not surprise me. I've been waiting for that since Bionic Woman flopped in the US, frankly. I'm not against it vs. some other pointless returns. Some returns work and some don't, some are just there. Like, am I grateful that Kathy is alive? Yes, absolutely. Do I love any of her stories? No. But she's not utterly destroyed, she's just there.
    • I think Frank probably wanted to try for Jonathan with Kate Mansi. I actually can't knock the idea of a Lucky/Kristina affair or flirtation on paper, as a romantic obstacle to LNL2, but not with the characters in the places they are at present or have been over the last few years. It would be a mistake to do right now and would poison the well. I think Jonathan probably made it clear when he came back that he wanted what had been promised to him years ago with Elizabeth, and between his not being one of FV's preferred focal leads and Liz being a grudging afterthought if she's not with one of his OLTL stars, I suspect FV was content to leave them where they are vs. where they should be, which is central on the show. It's like I said a few days ago: A lot of this is how Lulu has always been. But back in the day the issue was that Lulu (and Carly) were deified for it, whereas now it's that Lulu is just used as the heavy because FV has a preexisting favoritism for Setton/BLQ. And that's a waste of a key character and talent, namely Alexa Havins.
    • Melanie Smith was very difficult to replace, but as KMH did last for a long time, she clearly managed to do so. I preferred Melanie, but the main issue with Kelley is I just think she was horribly written for most of the time. Initially the writing wasn't horrible, it's more she was not the right choice, but over time the writing genuinely became awful, and unplayable, with a few exceptions (I think her pairings with Chris and Hal worked and got to take her in some new directions).
    • Coming into June and...   TRASH. Or as I like to say for moments like this...HUNNI, WHAT IS THIS?   Outside of seeing Traci come home...and then...Ashley...not a darn thing is going on. So they are clearing stalling now, aren't they? It really hit me during the Phyllis/Daniel scenes. It was feeling like a B&B scene where two characters have the same repetitive conversation. And I have not seen Phyllis/Daniel scenes in that light lately so yeeeeah NOPE.   I did like the touch of Traci arrived outside of the Abbott mansion door and taking a breath and looking around. Very aftereffects of Martin. And I liked her and Diane having their conversation about Martin. I wished JG had allowed Traci to stay in town to deal with her feelings about Martin so at least we are getting some follow-up on that.    And same with Ashley and her talk with Jack. I will take Eileen Davidson anyway I can get her. Dare I say...will she be around for the Dumas reveal?   Outside of...   Kyle, Claire, and Harrison in a park IS NOT a storyline.   Sharon having to use the phrases (and in text) with Nick dinner as friends IS NOT a storyline.   Giggly Heffa giggly-heffa-ing around town IS NOT a storyline.    With Damian MIA and my love of Eileen Davidson...I might just go on break until the Dumas reveal if this is how we are starting June.
    • Dragging this quote over from the Texas thread just because it shows a reference to Bay City as a fictional location at least as early as 1981. It doesn't quote Gail Kobe as saying it directly but the point she is making about the Houston setting of Texas does seem to take it for granted that Bay City is not real.
