But there's no data to support that though, unless they did some polling. But we have data that supports Friday is usually the lowest day and Monday the highest. I just makes sense to me to eliminate the lowest day. Also I find it hard to believe people would be mad if they had to wait 3 days instead of 2 for their soap opera fix.

Just how low will GH sink before changes are made? There's been a steady decline over the years, but it seems to me a dramatic freefall in the past year or so. Bringing on Franco and Michael Learned did nothing. Bringing back JJ and VM did nothing. Re-pairing past loves hasn't brought back viewers. Breaking up couples hasn't brought anyone back. Beating a teenage girl and (possibly) raping a teenage boy certainly hasn't worked.

Shootings, bombings, backstabbing and sleaze are the mainstays of GH and I think viewers are just realizing

things will never change as long as Frons and Guza are in charge. What a waste of talent.

Last summer GH was crashing. Then JJ's big return didn't reallly help the ratings.

But GH hit 3 million viewers in Feb when Sonny shot Dante. That proves former viewers could be lured back. Then GH crashed back down in June and now Brenda's overhyped, overpriced return flopped. Guza mishandled Brenda returns so badly he needs to change direction fast to regain viewer interest. Not sure he can as he's invested so much setup in this dreary the Balkan tale.

Why allow Brenda to infect everything on the show? BrendaPalooza should signal to Daytime execs that these returns aren't what their loyal audience is looking for. As should Greenlee's return, and Kelly's return, and the list goes on. Yet somehow, they do not seem to grasp this simple fact that they do not work! But it's not like OLTL is overtaking GH, GH hit record lows and fell below OLTL. There's no winner here.

what a terrible year for the soaps

1. Y&R 3.4/12 (same/-.2) <- ties low rating (2nd straight week)

2. B&B 2.2/8 (-.1/-.2)

3. OLTL 1.8/6 (+.1/-.1)

3. DAYS 1.8/6 (-.1/-.4)

5. AMC 1.7/6 (same/-.4) <- ties low rating (2nd straight week)

5. GH 1.7/5 (-.1/-.4) <- ties low rating (Last time: June 14-18, 2010)

so many - .4

A year ago, DOOL was cooking with Sydney and had the 2.2s, now 2.2 is second place. And 2 weeks of 3.4 for Y&R sounds like a new threshold is being crossed. I guess good for OLTL for weathering the storm better than the rest.

When is Guza going to realize the Sonny/Brenda/Dante story is not interesting to anyone but himself? He's got a large compliment of Spencers and a decent compliment of Cassidines and Quartermaines (if he recalls Brook and Jason) and that's always been the strength of this show. The Corrinthos should be window dressing and bow to the older families. Even the Scoprios can be brought in for better than Robin's paranoia and Sonny-propping.

OLTL doesn't have anything to crow about as they're status is not because they're rising, it's because they fell to this pathetic level earlier this year and AMC/GH are joining them this fall.

Exactly.

No cold weather rising for the soaps this year? I'm hoping it's just going to be a late year for the rises. The soaps are getting numbers they would usually get in the summer, it's horrible - for all of them except Y&R and B&B.

ETA:

I don't know what happened, when it happened but the show is really, really bad. I think OLTL shows effort, I think AMC is okay but generally on the boring side but GH is tedious.

BrendaPalooza Round #1 was a big ratings hit so I can understand why Frons/Guza hoped for a repeat there. But Greenlee's past returns have all flopped and Kelly was never a ratings hit for OLTL.

As for OLTL not winning well the fact is, it's only down -.1 year over year. That's the best performance of all 6 soaps.

Y&R and B&B are down -.2 and DAYS, AMC and GH all down a whopping -.4 over 2009 numbers.

Actually, long term trends show over the last 3 months, OLTL has steadily increased it's viewership while holding demos somewhat steady.

Aug 2010 2,273,000 657,250

Sep 2010 2,344,750 675,250

Oct 2010 2,427,250 663,500

I don't do AMC trends but GH had a decent September then been crashing all of October.

    • I definitely think FV wanted to pair Kristina and Lucky.  Why else would Lucky decide to become a bartender at her stupid bar?  Lucky was a cop, a crusader?-whatever he was doing in Africa and all these years away.   It makes zero sense for him to just be content tending bar for some flakey girl he knew since she was born.  Have him work with Spinelli at PI firm or something.  There were also some scenes with Kristina and Lucky that seemed like the show was leaning in that direction.  I also suspect JJ was extremely unhappy with that idea lol. As far as Lulu, I certainly don't miss the JMB smug era.  I hate that BLQ looks like a poor, innocent victim being tortured by Lulu at every turn though.
    • I do think she's been pretty wrecked, having tried to kill someone in cold blood, letting her whole family (including the woman pregnant with her great-grandchild) get charged or questioned, and having no remorse, but it doesn't matter as much because Kathy has not existed as a character since Gillian's return anyway.  There are reasons to bring Max back, like Lauren and his not knowing he had a child with Linda, but he is exhausted, with Jake Wood phoning it in years before he left.  I am a little surprised about Zoe because Michelle Ryan said for years she didn't want to return, to the point of even asking the show to recast the role, but I guess this may only be a short stint. I wouldn't be shocked if they kill Zoe off.
    • HAHAHA. Yeah, that's my bad. I misread that line. Sorry about going into "Unnecessary" detail about my username. Anyway, I love the story behind your Username.    reading on my phone...

    • Completely agree with you. I think Bonita Brisker has been really good as Sharon. What Anita did was obviously awful, so she doesn't need to reign anything in. We're getting a good look at someone who's struggled in life compared to Anita "We're the Duprees!" Williams.   -- Anita is starting to look foolish for dredging all this up just so she  can get her ass back on stage. Is she so delusional she doesn't realize how she hurt Sharon and Tracy? -- Anita's line to Vernon "How can I expect Sharon to forgive me when I haven't forgiven myself" struck me as really selfish. After all that with Sharon, Anita again made it all about herself. -- Does anyone really believe Anita wants equal billing if the Articulettes reunite?  -- Colby Muhammad continues to be a standout. Her Kat more than holds her own with Leslie. -- The writing was very good for the father/daughter scene between Ted and Eva. It wasn't so good between Ted and Martin in their father/son scene. It didn't play like family to me, especially when Ted referred to "my wife" when talking about Nicole to Martin. -- Overall, a very solid show today.
    • I honestly do not see the point of Max coming back again. Zoe does not surprise me. I've been waiting for that since Bionic Woman flopped in the US, frankly. I'm not against it vs. some other pointless returns. Some returns work and some don't, some are just there. Like, am I grateful that Kathy is alive? Yes, absolutely. Do I love any of her stories? No. But she's not utterly destroyed, she's just there.
    • I think Frank probably wanted to try for Jonathan with Kate Mansi. I actually can't knock the idea of a Lucky/Kristina affair or flirtation on paper, as a romantic obstacle to LNL2, but not with the characters in the places they are at present or have been over the last few years. It would be a mistake to do right now and would poison the well. I think Jonathan probably made it clear when he came back that he wanted what had been promised to him years ago with Elizabeth, and between his not being one of FV's preferred focal leads and Liz being a grudging afterthought if she's not with one of his OLTL stars, I suspect FV was content to leave them where they are vs. where they should be, which is central on the show. It's like I said a few days ago: A lot of this is how Lulu has always been. But back in the day the issue was that Lulu (and Carly) were deified for it, whereas now it's that Lulu is just used as the heavy because FV has a preexisting favoritism for Setton/BLQ. And that's a waste of a key character and talent, namely Alexa Havins.
    • Melanie Smith was very difficult to replace, but as KMH did last for a long time, she clearly managed to do so. I preferred Melanie, but the main issue with Kelley is I just think she was horribly written for most of the time. Initially the writing wasn't horrible, it's more she was not the right choice, but over time the writing genuinely became awful, and unplayable, with a few exceptions (I think her pairings with Chris and Hal worked and got to take her in some new directions).
    • Coming into June and...   TRASH. Or as I like to say for moments like this...HUNNI, WHAT IS THIS?   Outside of seeing Traci come home...and then...Ashley...not a darn thing is going on. So they are clearing stalling now, aren't they? It really hit me during the Phyllis/Daniel scenes. It was feeling like a B&B scene where two characters have the same repetitive conversation. And I have not seen Phyllis/Daniel scenes in that light lately so yeeeeah NOPE.   I did like the touch of Traci arrived outside of the Abbott mansion door and taking a breath and looking around. Very aftereffects of Martin. And I liked her and Diane having their conversation about Martin. I wished JG had allowed Traci to stay in town to deal with her feelings about Martin so at least we are getting some follow-up on that.    And same with Ashley and her talk with Jack. I will take Eileen Davidson anyway I can get her. Dare I say...will she be around for the Dumas reveal?   Outside of...   Kyle, Claire, and Harrison in a park IS NOT a storyline.   Sharon having to use the phrases (and in text) with Nick dinner as friends IS NOT a storyline.   Giggly Heffa giggly-heffa-ing around town IS NOT a storyline.    With Damian MIA and my love of Eileen Davidson...I might just go on break until the Dumas reveal if this is how we are starting June.
    • Dragging this quote over from the Texas thread just because it shows a reference to Bay City as a fictional location at least as early as 1981. It doesn't quote Gail Kobe as saying it directly but the point she is making about the Houston setting of Texas does seem to take it for granted that Bay City is not real.
