I wonder if Bell resented the fact that she jumped ship in the middle of a major storyline, with so much focus on her character, to go to GH. But after she left GH in 1984, it would have been wonderful to see Alexander back on DAYS, on Y&R or even B&B. She was legendary!

According to her Bell had kind of decided to focus on other characters for a bit, which is why her contract lapsing wasn’t such a big deal to any of them when ABC swooped in with an offer she couldn’t refuse.  They were focused on launching Y&R and he was giving other characters play after having used Susan so heavily for years.  Doesn’t mean it didn’t piss him off though.

Obviously she was the character because after Alexander leaves she is no longer as major a character.

I was thinking about Susan Martin and her parallels to Cathy Craig on OLTL.  They were romantic rivals to lead characters who turned into tragic heroines due to the death of their babies.  Only to end their stories (played by recasts) chasing men who did not want them.

Which in turn led me to vague recollections of Dr Greg Peters, his wife Amanda, and this tidbit that Deidre Hall told about her first day on DOOL when she was on the Kelly Clarkson Show

Which in turn made me to recall that Lesley Jordan said this week on Watch What Happens that Mary Frann was awful to work with.  Which in turn made me wonder if Deidre Hall shared Lesley Jordan's opinion?

Does anyone have any additional resources to read about Greg and Amanda's relationship?  I guess the fact that both actors are dead doesn't make a return to the show likely, but the Peters were a family steeped in DAYS history.

It’s fascinating how Bell went from writing the number one soap at the time ATWT then to becoming the head scribe at DAYS a brand new soap which was lower in the ratings.

The death of Susan’s son and subsequent trial sounds similar to TGLs story of MetaBauer/Chuckie/Ted White. Of course it should come as no surprise that Irna Phillips influenced much of Bells writing.

It's true that the character's latest major story was winding down, but DAYS was insane to let Alexander's contract expire. She was one of daytime's biggest stars, and one of the most popular actresses by far on the show. It was hard adjusting to her replacement. Bennye Gatteys might have been fine playing another role, and she was an adequate actress overall, but she lacked the intensity and charisma and star appeal that Alexander was blessed with. It was like watching Linda Borgenson  on AW, Victoria Mallory on Y&R or Daniel Pilon on TGL: they simply did not live up to the original actors in their roles. Susan Martin never regained the popularity she had had when Denise Alexander played her. The character started being seen less and less, and then disappeared completely, without even a write-off scene. IIF recall correctly, the last time we saw Susan was at Doug and Julie's wedding in 1976, after being MIA for months. It was a disappointing way to discard a character who had once been hugely important to Salem.

I know this will sound caustic (I honestly don't mean it to be), but who the heck is Lesley Jordan, and why should we give credence to this person's assessment of Frann's character? I've honestly never heard anyone bad-mouth Frann in the last 50 years, LOL. (On the other hand, there are  some actors who have been rumored to feud with people regularly.)

I want to say Deidre had nice things to say about her when she passed, so I think they got along.  The internet is not giving me evidence to back this up, but I remember her saying kind words about her.  You know how co-workers are.  I don't get a long with everyone I work with, but that doesn't mean they are bad people.  I just don't like them lol.  I am sure MF was fine.

    • Not mad at Leslie Locking Eva out, I think it's important for the audience to see her on her own for a while. Curious how scrappy and savvy on her own. Yeah, I am with you there. It feels a bit hollow; maybe if she was talking to Martin and Kat I would feel better about it. There must be more to this story. Daphnee and Ambry owned this episode. Tugging my heart in every scene. Nicole process hurt and anger much differently than Dani though.
    • I also really enjoyed Eva's scenes with Kat today. They have an interesting chemistry. I thought it really did feel a bit like sisters at conflict. Especially with the way that Eva was trying to convince Kat to forgive Ted and them both coming to the conclusion that the man they thought was their father was different wasn't who they really thought he was initially. And the way that Eva broke down when Kat said that she was dead to her was emotional stuff. I really do think that in spite of their conflict/bickering Eva really would have loved to have gained a sister, along with a brother, father, etc... Also, I thought it was interesting how Eva kept saying that she loves Ted and Nicole. That and Leslie mentioning that Kat/Eva are almost twins really does make me wonder if Kat may really be her twin and Nicole's as well. I would gladly welcome that outcome, even if it takes a while for it to come out. At this point Leslie doesn't deserve Eva as a daughter as far as I'm concerned. And I would forward to a storyline where we found out that she's Nicole's second baby girl, and all the complex and ultimately happy feelings that would bring Nicole. Eva/Kat could still have a rivalry, especially if Nicole ended up doing some more bonding with Eva. And then we could get the rest of the family's reaction to that as well.

What you NOT gonna do to me!
    • Bravo to every single person responsible for today's episode. From the writer on down to Kraft services. Yall I'm getting emotional but I wish my granny was here to have seen this soap since she was the one to introduce me to this medium.

    • Everything is fraught with confusion. Why is Leslie pleading with the Duprees to accept Eva? She's not biological family so what is this? She's the product of an affair with their in-law so Leslie wants them to accept her? I'm getting GOOD TIMES vibes of Leslie and Eva minus the physical abuse.
    • Big fan of today's writing. In particular, I like EJ complexity, crying over Johnny and conspiring at the same is tough to pull off in the same episode, but it goes very far in explaining EJ's motives. I don't hate the idea of Cat and EJ, and I especially appreciate everyone trying to warn her, but she is sticking to the plan. Boy oh boy, when Brandon Beemer wears a shirt that matches his eyes, I get lost in the screen!
    • Yeah, I think that Leslie's speech would have had a bit more of an impact if Ted had been the Dupree's son, with Nicole being the daughter in law they loved like a daughter. But being that he's the son in law, and that Eva (at least not right now) isn't technically a Dupree, it doesn't hold as much weight. They aren't caring much for Ted right now and their feelings could be trickling down to Eva. Though, I do think they have some sympathy for her. I really enjoyed today's show. Loved a stripped, down hurt but still strong in her resolve Nicole. DD continues to shine and shows why she is IMO the heart of the show. I felt her words, and anger at Ted and how she broke down in Kat's arms at the end. She is just wonderful all the way around. I also loved the way that Anita read Leslie. She was spot on about her and how mishandled everything with Ted and Eva. And speaking of Leslie... I immediately thought the same thing once I saw that scene. That what she exhibited was trash behavior. I don't think she's a good mother. In fact, I think she's lousy. Granted, I have missed some episodes, but I haven't really seen her do anything to indicate that she really cares for Eva or her well being. All she's really done is try and manipulate/use Eva for her own agenda since she came to town.
    • I thought Brandon C was much more believable as Martin today.  Before, I watched an actor trying to portray a character.  Friday and today, I simply felt the character.
