Members Brolden
10th era: October 2, 1989 - December 8, 1989 As specified in my last post, episode #8,650 aired on December 8, 1989. According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,603 aired on October 2, 1989. Based on these episode numbers, 2 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I've confirmed both of these pre-emptions: 1989 (post-October 2; pre-December 8): November 23 & 24 Edited July 24, 2018 by Brolden

According to the same source, as well as the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH, AND the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago (all found at http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,550 aired on July 17, 1989. Members Brolden
12th era: March 20, 1989 - July 17, 1989 As specified in my last post, episode #8,550 aired on July 17, 1989 According to the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,465 aired on March 20, 1989. These two episode numbers actually perfectly match up, which means that presumably no episodes were pre-empted in between these two dates. Members Brolden
13th era: February 17, 1989 - March 20, 1989 This one is driving me nuts, because it's such a short period and I'm so close to connecting it fully... As specified in my last post, episode #8,465 aired on March 20, 1989. According to Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,445 aired on February 17, 1989. Based on these two episode numbers, 1 episode must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I can rule out the February 22 & 23 episodes, as well as the March 16 & 17 episodes, which I've all confirmed as airing. That leaves the following 16 contenders for the sole pre-emption: February 20, 1989 February 21, 1989 February 24, 1989 February 27, 1989 February 28, 1989 March 1, 1989 March 2, 1989 March 3, 1989 March 6, 1989 March 7, 1989 March 8, 1989 March 9, 1989 March 10, 1989 March 13, 1989 March 14, 1989 March 15, 1989 As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated!
Members Brolden
14th era: November 3, 1987 - February 17, 1989 As specified in my last post, episode #8,445 aired on February 17, 1989. According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #8,120 aired on November 3, 1987. Based on these two episode numbers, 13 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I'm certain of these seven pre-emptions: 1987 (post-November 3): November 26 & 27 1988: January 1; September 5 & 9; November 24 & 25 That leaves 6 pre-emptions unaccounted for. I have 3 educated guesses, which I have not yet been able to confirm: December 25, 1987: Christmas? January 2, 1989: I'm hearing the Cotton Bowl may have been held that day, since January 1 was a Sunday? January 20, 1989: Bush Inauguration? As for the other 3 pre-emptions, your guess is as good as mine. As always, any info on these airdates will be much appreciated. Next time: November 11, 1986 - November 3, 1987; April 2, 1986 - November 11, 1986; November 13, 1984 - April 2, 1986
Members dc11786
I'm looking at newspaper listings. I tried to check with at least two states in different time zones to make sure that it wasn't just a preemption in one part of the country. On January 2, 1989, it looks like CBS aired the Tournament of Roses parade preempting their daytime lineup. On January 20, 1989, it looks like all soaps (ABC, CBS, and NBC) are preempted for the inauguration. On February 20, 1989, it looks CBS aired a NBA game between Houston and Cleveland which preempted their soaps. Members DRW50
Thanks. It's good to know more about how long she was Kim as that has always confused me.

Members Brolden
Great find! Thank you so much! That February 20 pre-emption means I can now connect that era that was driving me crazy. May I ask where you found these? I've been meaning to look through newspaper listings myself, but most sites are unfortunately blocked outside of the US (which is where I am). Re: inaugurations... I feel like actual inaugurations (presidents' first terms) were always pre-empted. The thing that makes no sense to me is that January 20, 2005 (W. Bush's second term) was pre-empted, but January 20, 1997 (Clinton's second term) was not. Oh well.
Members Brolden
15th era: November 7, 1986 - November 3, 1987 As specified in my last post, episode #8,120 aired on November 3, 1987. According to the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,884 aired on November 7, 1986. Based on these two episode numbers, 21 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. I'm certain of these seven pre-emptions: 1986 (post-November 7): November 27 & 28; December 25 1987 (pre-November 3): January 1; July 23; September 7 & 11 That leaves 14 pre-emptions unaccounted for... Obviously, this era was plagued by the Iran-Contra hearings, which were between July 13 and August 7. As indicated above, I have confirmed the July 23 episode as pre-empted. Meanwhile, I've confirmed the July 21, 22 & 24 episodes, as well as the August 5, 6 & 7 episodes as airing. Which means the following 13 episodes may have been pre-empted: July 13, 1987 July 14, 1987 July 15, 1987 July 16, 1987 July 17, 1987 July 20, 1987 July 27, 1987 July 28, 1987 July 29, 1987 July 30, 1987 July 31, 1987 August 3, 1987 August 4, 1987 Even if all of these episodes were pre-empted, there would still need to be another pre-emption unaccounted for. More likely, a large number of the above episodes were pre-empted and there were a few more elsewhere in the era. As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated! According to both the Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH, as well as the ATAS-UCLA Television Archives (both found at http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,729 aired on April 2, 1986 (the 30th anniversary episode). Based on these episode numbers, 2 episodes were pre-empted in between these two dates. Members Brolden
17th era: November 13, 1984 - April 2, 1986 As specified in my last post, episode #7,729 aired on April 2, 1986. According to Corporate Archives in Cincinnati, OH (http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/studio/5185/sources/vidsources.html), episode #7,377 aired on November 13, 1984. Based on these episode numbers, 9 episodes must have been pre-empted in between these two dates. As of 1985, I am not certain about any of the 'standard' pre-emptions. I'm not sure when CBS started pre-empting for US Open in September, but I have it confirmed from 1986 onwards. Similarly, from 1986 onwards, Thanksgiving thursdays and fridays were always pre-empted. However, if WeLoveSoapsVideos dated its episodes properly, an episode aired on Thanksgiving friday in 1979. As a result, I will not be counting any Thanksgiving or US Open pre-emptions as 'certain' before 1986 and will count them as 'potential pre-emptions instead'. Unfortunately, this means that I have no pre-emptions confirmed in this era. I have eleven episodes listed as 'potential pre-emptions', but that's actually two too many, as there should only be 9 pre-emptions. Here are the contenders: November 22, 1984: Thanksgiving? November 23, 1984: Thanksgiving? December 25, 1984: Christmas? January 1, 1985: New Years Day? (Alternatively, December 31, 1984: New Year's Eve?) September 2, 1985: US Open? September 6, 1985: US Open? November 28, 1985: Thanksgiving? November 29, 1985: Thanksgiving? December 25, 1985: Christmas? (This seems likely, since December 24 is the Christmas episode... unfortunately, Dan Region doesn't announce the pre-emption) January 1, 1986: New Year's Day? (December 31, 1985 is confirmed as airing!) January 28, 1986: I had this listed as pre-empted in my research from last year, but couldn't retrace it this year... As always, any info on these dates will be much appreciated! I might post some more later today... I have about 5 more "eras" to go to get to my earliest "checkpoint"... Once I've posted those, I'm thinking about starting a separate thread where I'll basically post my entire excel file, with references to where all the episodes can be found. That way, we can all contribute if, say, some never before seen episodes should resurface (fingers crossed!)...
Members j swift
At point did they go from preempting a soap for live news coverage to rescheduling the episode for late night? For example, in Los Angeles during the OJ trial and beyond the soaps would be shown at 2am rather than actually skipping a day. I understand that there are always planned preemptions from holidays and sports but at some point the networks seemed to have decided to reschedule rather than preempt for live news coverage; at least on the west coast.
