I read through a lot of Joyce story’s for years but to actually see some stuff is great.

Thanks guys for not being mad at me.

but I wonder would people put Joyce in the same category as Heather Webber from GH? From what I’ve read she manipulated situations . to still be in Teddy’s life and so on.

Its such a shame that so many full episodes are lost :(  I get that they didn’t thought about people watching it like 40-50 years later

Why were so many women sacrificed at the altar for Brad Hollister?

He looks skeevy and repulsive from the few clips I've seen of him over the years.

To those who were watching at the time, was Brad heavily featured and forced down the viewer's throats?

I've said this before in this thread, but I feel like possibly the show was trying to have its own Luke Spencer as it appears that aesethic became popular with casting directors in daytime around that time.

Early 80's ATWT was a mess. Marland really made the show must see TV. I do know some fans hated the arrival of the Snyders, but the vets ( Bob, Kim, Susan, etc...) did get good story.

80-81 maybe a bit boring

82-85 wasn't a mess for me. I truly enjoyed the show.

Both CBS and P&G were shaken by ABC's huge rise and domination 1978-1982.

1986 and 1987 were the peak years.

Thank you very much for posting this. The David Stewart storyline is one of the few storylines from that time period that really interests me and that I wish I could see in its entirety. I don't think I realized until this episode what a good actor Henderson Forsyth was. I don't think he got to show his range that much in the role as David was so stoic.

Luke is probably one factor. I think the Dobsons may have also been attempting to recreate Roger Thorpe and failing miserably.

I'd give Calhoun and Susan Bedsow Horgan a lot of credit too. The show in late 1984/early 1985 seemed to improve markedly and many pieces they put in place Marland could use to his advantage. If he had taken over in 1982 or 1983 I'm not sure what might have happened. Even when you watch his work in the brief period he was writing around 1979, although it's much better than what is to come, the incredibly moribund nature of that time and the large amount of deadly dull characters shine through.

Thanks @NothinButAttitude

This period often has characters I barely know or don't know and seemingly had no impact on the canvas. Most of these doctors (aside from Jeff and ever sorrowful Annie), for instance. Gary Hudson was so different from Con Roche as Rick Ryan. They probably should have kept him on. I wonder if he did his own stunt at the end. The psychiatrist looks familiar. He reminds me of the annoying guy on the first season of Newhart, although I assume that's not him. I had to laugh at him showing off a ton of his chest hair...just because. Ah, the early '80s. The other doctors all blur to me. The woman at 5 minutes is so familiar to me too from elsewhere.

Sofia is another of those interchangeable heroines of this period (I think she was soon replaced by Miranda's daughter Bilan), although she has more personality here than in the other bits I've seen of her. And Eric and Hayley, soon to leave. It's a credit to Karen that she managed to survive this churn.

The material with David is interesting. Nice to see Henderson Forsythe getting to act. I also greatly enjoyed John downplaying and turning around his role in David's breakdown, as Lyla looks on in judgment. Anne Sward was a pro at those types of looks.

Ellen always reminds me of a drum majorette in that outfit.

I could tell from his voice that it was Robin Thomas (ex-Dr. Mark Singleton, AW) playing the psychiatrist.

On the other hand: I could be wrong, but I think that was Margo McKenna (ex-Betsy, LOL; ex-Emily, EON) as the woman talking with Rick at 5:00.

I think the woman 5 minutes in is Margo McKenna from Edge Of Night.

Thanks. No wonder she was familiar. Who could forget twitchy Emily.

I don't think I've seen a lot of Thomas' AW run but it's hard to believe they tried to pair him with Jacquie Courtney.

Something tells me "Alexander Sokoloff" is a pseudonym, but for whom?

Small correction -- Mark was a lawyer and a politician, not a doctor.
