Members DramatistDreamer
LOL. The characterization and the writing were in competition for which was worse. But, let’s say, with decent writing and portrayal that actually paid attention to the original incarnation of Dusty Donovan…it could have been interesting to play that against latter day James Stenbeck. Stenbeck needed a genuine nemesis, someone (not named Barbara Ryan) who was a match for him.
Members DRW50
That's true. Add in an attempt to get John in earlier and you could have had some good conflict.
Members Soapsuds
@DRW50 There is a promo for knots landing in the atwt episode and that episode of knots aired on January 27, 1983 unless its a rerun for that week.
Members SoapDope
Melinda should have never been killed off like Chuckie Shea. It seems like writers back in the day had that on the brain when they wanted to do away with a character. Look how many ATWT characters that got killed off in the 1970's alone. Chuckie "Chuck" could have been turned into a balls to the wall mean SOB by his father (who faked their deaths) by the time of his return. He would make James & Tonio look like wusses. Lisa would be afraid to go to bed at night just knowing he was in the house. Andy, Sabrina, and Frannie should have been on canvas. I thought it was hilarious and weird that after Mary Ellen Stuart took over the role of Frannie, they cast another actress as Sabrina instead of continuing the Patty Duke Identical cousins bit.
Members DRW50
I thought the same but figured it was a repeat.
Members Franko
The CBS Saturday Movie promo places this as also airing during the week of Aug. 1, 1983. Notice that the CBS Thursday promo is still using the "Great Moments" graphics from 1982-83.

Members DramatistDreamer
Late stage ATWT gave me the notion that they brought back James just as much to mix things up with the newer characters as with Barbara, which is not a bad idea, if you know what you’re doing and how to write it but that’s not what I recall from what I saw on my screen. John absolutely should have been brought back, even for a brief time during a story arc- Larry and Anthony usually lit up scenes during which they played opposite each other, with even just a look.
Members MarlandFan
Wow - I've never been on Rumble before. I understand that people have different politics, but there appears to be an inordinate number of conspiracy theory videos.
Members AMCOLTLLover
I don’t know. I’m just in an old Facebook group that posts episodes and clips of GL and Atwt. I found this clip and it wasn’t even an over the top back from the dead with Joyce. I really enjoyed that scene
Members vetsoapfan
I just glanced around a bit, but I was shocked and sickened to see all the hate speech, disinformation and toxicity given free reign on the platform.
Members AMCOLTLLover
I’m sorry that I posted such crap site.. I don’t support any of their hate speech. Members Franko
On the chance that the new 1983 episode is from Thursday, Aug. 4, I'm going to mention how funny/awesome it is that so much of that particular day's soaps can now be seen, even partially. ABC: Loving, Ryan's Hope, All My Children, General Hospital, Edge of Night NBC: Search for Tomorrow, Another World CBS: As the World Turns
Members DramatistDreamer
I have heard some very disturbing and distasteful things about Rumble, so I don’t ever intend to venture onto that platform. I remember there were a few Black “creators” that were lured there with the promises of riches and better subscriber traction than they were getting on YouTube. A few announced that they were leaving for Rumble, expecting their subscribers to follow suit. They are back to YouTube now. A teenager-y Betsy. And another reference to Cricket as a bug, this time not in an affectionate way but delivered with more than a hint of derision.
