I hesitate to keep citing this user as they're putting up very rare soap content and they're beginning to speak for themselves all across the board. But I figure people here needed to see this one too. Definitely something to keep an eye on and be prudent about going forward. Anyway, enjoy.

Thank you again @Vee . What a wonderful surprise in such dark times, and with a new P&G soap on the way. I never thought I'd live to see any of these moments - even fragments, let alone an episode. It's so nice to see my Oakdale friends and family again.

I assume this must be not long after Irna left. I hope some of hers might pop up someday (we already have one in B&W).

Astonishing that it still looks this good. We so rarely see that this far back.

OMFG, I am in soap nirvana. Thank you, @Vee. OLTL, AMC, ATWT...all from the 1970s!!! Heck, he even offers Room 222, a sitcom I loved back in the day.

This gentleman deserves all the kudos and thanks we can offer him!

Watching this now and it's such a pivotal episode. Kim hiding away in her last months of pregnancy and bonding with John. This is also a prime episode for the pre-Marland Nancy who is so much blunter and more manipulative.

I wish I could see Jennifer - or anything of her outside of one tiny clip and her 1998 ghostly return. It's utterly fascinating, especially when soaps could often be black and white even in these more nuanced years, to have a heroine who is written as so forthright and uninterested in who might not react well to her, while Kim, who is on paper, more in the wrong, due to pursuing Bob, is the character seen as sweeter and easier to love, at least if Nancy is any indication.

I loved that thole segment where Nancy is grilling Chris about why he hasn't been asking Grant more questions about his wife. I have seen wives in that type of moment with husbands. Were they already laying the groundwork for Joyce?

Speaking of Grant, I had forgotten another actor played Grant (he isn't shown but is in the cast list)

Larry Brygmann is styled in an oily manner in these years. Was it the Dobsons who let him look more like a leading man?

I forgot Jay started this early on. I didn't know he had any early stuff with the Stewarts or Ellen.

I get so confused about the timeline as I thought the Stewarts had been written out for a while. Had they already been brought back by this point? Or had they never been written out?

THANK YOU !!! I never thought a complete color episode from this early 70's time period would surface. Poor Kim really did suffer during this era.

Just finished watching.

I think this later in 73 than indicated. The Soderbergs are writing. I think the started after the writers strike. Irna gets the 'created' by tag. Wonder how much longer that lasted.

Grant was Konrad Matthei who had played Penny's last husband (and Sandy's ex) Roy and it always surprised me that they brought that actor back. Most viewers would have been around 6 years earlier and recognized him. Anyway he was son replaced by James Douglas.

Annie was still being referred to as Carol Ann and had been drastically SORASED in true ATWT tradition.

With Dan and Paul both gone I guess they needed something for David and Ellen to do plus needing new young people.

The inference was that Ellen was afraid her daughter would fall into the clutches of an unsuitable man, as she did.

I don't think anything came of the Jay/Ellen connection.

Patricia Bruder was dropped later on.

Santos Ortega had lost a lot of weight due to illness.

I did wonder about the timeframe due to thinking Irna was still there at that time and also how heavily pregnant Kim was.

So they fired Ellen and then brought her back in the mid-70s.

I had forgotten Konrad played Roy.

I assume Jennifer and Bob were married by this point and Jennifer was ready to have Frannie, based on the story about the crib.

I wonder if Jennifer and Nancy ever get along or if Jennifer ever changes. They seemed to keep her as having a strong personality as we know a few years later there was the story about her wanting to go back to school and Nancy being unhappy.

I loved the Nancy and Chris scene..they are not as sugar sweet and most soap older tentpoles..Nancy is being a nag, Chris was telling her to keep out of it and they didn't have a big fight..they just went on with their day, like a real couple. I love that we see what seems to be part of the Steward living room set which survived to the end (redone many times over) and yes, the foreshadowing of Joyce. I just hate that later retrospectives left out characters like Grandpa Hughes and Papa Bauer.

Nancy was a real pistol..I wish they kept her that way!

yes — sabrina was born mid-december 1973; frannie, of course, on christmas day. so even if this were late spring — may, even early june — kim wouldn’t have been this far along.

I checked synopses and this episode is late August or early Sept 73.

Jen was unhappy because Bob was clashing with her son Rick, and she felt Bob was at fault. In addition Jen was unhappy about her pregnancy and had only reconciled with Bob because of it.

An argument ensues one night which results in Bob getting hit by a car, trying to save Jen. When Rick shows little sympathy for Bob, Jen realizes she has been blind to Rick's true nature.

Then Bob in a drugged state reveals to Jen his one night stand with Kim and the fact he is the father of her child also. Jen decides to keep the secret.

At the same time John and Kim elope.

Thanks for the recap. When did Nancy find out the truth about Kim's baby ? How did she treat Kim after ? 1997 Ghost Jen made a remark how Lisa & Kim were like oil & water in the old days and didn't want Kim anywhere near Bob. When did Lisa & Kim become friends ? They were besties by 1979.

How did Jen & Lisa get along ? I assume Lisa hated her guts.

I am utterly speechless! So much of what I asked for in that holy grail thread is surfacing!

This really feels like Nancy’s golden age. Her hair and wardrobe were more flattering than any look she had in the 50s and 60s, and she’s loads more interesting here than she ever was from the 80s and on. I love that even this deep into it, we were still getting those great Nancy/Grandpa scenes that were a hallmark of the show for so long. Grandpa! Never imagined I’d ever see anything of him in his last few years on the show.

The David/Ellen scene ticked me off bc Patricia Bruder was 36 years old at the time, and this is what they have her character doing. Jay Stallings was hot as hell and so different from what your typical ATWT man looked like at the time. She deserved to let that hair down and get her some.

Kim and John!! Early Kim with the long hair that I alluded to literally a week ago with no expectation of seeing any time soon. The extended sequence with the voiceover “thinking” is so of the time, and it’s crazy to know that this is the story that pushed Irna out for good. I so wish we could have seen Jen here too, which I was kinda surprised to her them call her just Jen. Her granddaughter would be just Jen thirty years later.

Was Barbara gone by this point?

And then to have a credit roll. Something, anything, with Alma Miller has to show up. I need to see Lisa and her mother.

You can tell the organ was on its way out. The episode barely had a score, and I can’t imagine Charlie Paul was still up to playing live every day at this point. The orchestral theme had to debut by like November.

Thanks so much for the tag, @Vee!!
