Very true and that's all that matters in a soap, not social "relevance" (shut up Agnes...) or shocking twists, its what keeps you coming back each day.

Kind of off topic but really not since prime time shows have taken over for the soaps, but I watch Walking Dead like I watched the soaps, I bitch about it but I keep tuning in to see what happens next. This year its got a new show runner and it better then it has been in years and on Sunday they had their most soap like episode ever....the psycho villain disguises herself and attends the community fair, where she eavesdrops on the characters to find out where to strike and what their stories are..no one is of course the wiser and well, it doesnt end well. During the episode there were reunions and speeches about community and heroism and coming together despite the bad and I said to my partner..."Its like zombies invaded Oakdale or Springfield." Of course, he looks at me like Im nuts...

Coming to the realization that next week will be another anniversary where the only acknowledgement of this show will be from a few bloggers and some fans.

It's unlikely that there will be so much as a peep from P&G acknowledging all those decades of talent, hard work and drive in service of this dramatic series.  No nods to the decades of fan support.

No magnanimous gesture as a way of saying thanks or celebrating an entertaining and sometimes great show.

Thinking about it makes me a bit sad.

With all the reboots happening every five minutes, it draws into sharp relief, the absence of a soap like As The World Turns

On for decades, from Golden Age to Golden Age, yet M.I.A. during the current Golden Age of television, part of history (how often do we see the clip of Walter Cronkite interrupting the "regularly scheduled program" to announce the JFK assassination?).

I'm not even expecting a reboot or anything but it's just the bane of my existence that P&G has left those archives to languish somewhere and no one with any agency seems to care.

Are we to believe that it's all music rights that are the big impediment?  Does every single episode from 1979 to 199- whenever digitization began have a piece of popular music embedded in the episode??  Once a year, P&G couldn't throw the fans and the living cast and crew a bone by putting out a handful of good quality episodes from the original source?  (I find it hard to believe when there is an entity, as we speak, digitizing and preserving old episodes of Soul Train for the web).

It's just a shame how little value these soaps have, and it's not just the cancelled ones either.

If only I could stream ATWT, GL, and AW. I love that I can watch what is available on YouTube, but that is very limiting.

for God’s sake, The Wonder Years was released with substitute music. I have to think it was much more damaging to the integrity of that show than it would be to release our soaps with substitute music.

Why not just charge money and release the shows in their original condition? You wouldn’t make much money, but you also wouldn’t make zero.

Was Lucinda Walsh the only character who would tell someone "Good morning" before she slapped them?

NGL but I watched this slap about 3, 4 times.  I've remember the times I've seen both Sierra and Lily slap people but had no memories of when Lucinda did it, but I should have because clearly, this was memorable.

The twitter accounts dedicated to the show have good intentions but I wish that there were an "official As The World Turns account", there are a number of ATWT alumni on social media.  Wouldn't it be nice if they got a tweet from an ATWT social media account, thanking them for their service to the show?  Even a group tag would be thoughtful.

I miss the show too, by the way, and wished there were an actual commemoration, even an online one.  Could you imagine a livestream where fans could gather and watch around their computers or streaming boxes and either watch the same classic episode at the time that the show aired in their area or watch the episode later on?  The We Love Soaps blog used to put out classic episodes sometimes.  I miss the days when the soap blogs had an active interest in the classic soaps, other than putting out the same clips and trivia.

    • I think you can find them here https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/OLTL What's there is recaps from SOD at the times it shows which is usually from way back up till 2003. Most if not all of this is due to Matt Smith who you may recall from his AW playlists on YoutTube.
    • Party wardrobe color theme: Good Queen Nicole is in a solid gold gown. The other Dupree women (plus Smitty) are wearing shades of red/pink (with purple accents) -- Anita, Dani, Chelsea, Kat, in dresses. -- Smitty in white shirt and maroon jacket. (did not see Naomi?) "The help" Eva and Mona are in black. Antagonist queen Leslie/Dana in a black/gold gown. The men (except for Smitty) are wearing black. Ted - white shirt, black tie, black jacket. (Ted's jacket was shiny or velvet or a textured fabric - I couldn't quite tell, but the jacket color was solid black) Vernon - black turtleneck, white dress shirt over it, black jacket (no tie). Andre - black T-shirt, gold chain, black jacket. Martin - black shirt, black tie, black jacket. Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald - white shirt, black tie, black jacket. (did not see Jacob?) I didn't see Naomi and Jacob at the party, but perhaps they arrive later? The evening is not over yet.

I enjoyed his scenes with Johnny. Both of their perspectives make perfect sense to me and are completely relatable. There’s no right or wrong person in this situation and I like that. LH  does pretty well when Tate is angry too, but I also liked the way that he comforted Johnny in the end. Days is finally remembering that they’re cousins. And, Johnny looked hot in the beginning   Btw, Johnny going to work for Xander? That could be interesting. And, also can cause some more animosity between him and EJ.  And again, Marlena/Belle were great. Scenes like theirs really seem to be commonplace under Paula/Jeanne and I couldn’t be happier that they are. It’s helps us get a much better understanding of these characters and why they do the things that they do and feel the way that they feel. Marlena supporting Belle was a bit of surprise, considering her insane reaction when she walked in on EJ and Belle, but I also feel that it’s totally in character for her, both as a psychiatrist and as Belle’s mother.  As for Sophia and Amy… I miss the first Sophia lol but I can’t help but think that Amy suddenly being so nice is foreshadowing of something. Either that, or Paula/Jeanne aren’t biased against her
    • @alwaysAMC Great mini-review as always.  That Gilly story is...certainly one I could not forget... I imagine a number of viewers were shocked with the temporary recast. It was revealed in the soap magazines, as was the news about Frank Beaty's breakdown, I think. I think Wolf had some statements or an interview at the time but very little. I wish someone could interview him. He did a good job under extremely tough circumstances.  For some reason I have a vague memory of him in the Marian getup but that's probably not right.  I'm glad you have appreciated the material with Susan after a shaky start. I always enjoyed her, and she was the only love interest I liked Nick with.

When Doug died on May 1st, 1989, it was a huge loss to the show, the other actors & also to the fans.

    • Jonathan Kellerman is definitely the most EON/Slesar-like writer in the business right now.  Unfortunately, he's almost 80 years old.  Interestingly, he has a son (Jesse Kellerman) who's about 45, who's been studying under him.  I believe what makes the Kellermans such effective mystery & crime writers is their background in psychology.
    • I never understood the point of Marchetti. Summer left the show for a job there in Italy. OK. When she returned they had Jack buy the company. Why couldn't Summer have returned and simply stated it was not a good fit, she missed her home , family/friends etc It was absurd that this internationally successful fashion empire could just be bought by a US cosmetics firm at the drop of a hat. What was the point when they never did anything with it at all? Summer simply could have gone to work at Jabot. And wasn't there some nonsense about an offshhoot called Marchetti Home? Was Phyllis attached to that at some point? This show...
