Days: Deidre Hall Sues Fan Club President

I just saw this on the New York Post website and thought I'd share:

http://www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/tv/days_star_sues_fan_club_prez_GOhmvV2BgZUuymIufw1J4J

An unusually nasty feud between fading soap-star Deidre Hall and the president of her fan club has landed in federal court.

The former “Days of Our Lives” diva is suing her once-adoring No. 1 fan to get the rights to her Website, diedrehall.com — but the fan club president is saying not until the actress comes up with $17,000 in money she’s owed.

The dispute goes much deeper than a haggle over a few thousands dollars and a URL.

It is the kind of tale you can find only in Hollywood.

In the complaint, Hall — who was dropped from “Days” in 2008 after 29 years as the show’s leading lady — accuses fan-club president Cathleen Paradis, 45, for “unauthorized exploitation”

of her likeness and using her Web site to sell “private photographs of [Hall] and her minor children.”

The soap-opera diva is asking for unspecified monetary damages as well as possession of various domains, including deidre-hall.com — which Paradis insists she paid for and created with Hall’s blessing.

According to Paradis, an unemployed Web designer from of Newlington, Conn., the drama began two years ago, after she’d spent months acting as Hall’s defacto personal assistant.

“I submitted the bill for it, and she didn’t want to pay,” Paradis told the Post yesterday.

“I was very loyal and dedicated for a lot of years. But you have to draw a line in the sand at some point. I had bills to pay. I couldn’t just keep using all of my time doing everything she wanted and expect the tooth fairy to pay my rent.”

Hall’s lawsuit says her fan “voluntarily assisted” her.

But Paradis says her duties included scanning more than 6,000 photos into a computer data base for her and creating video presentations for managers and agents.

“She even asked me to retouch pictures of her and her children for the annual Christmas card,” Paradis says, “to make her kids look better and her youngest son look thinner."

Paradis says she first met the soap star about 15 years ago, while editing an unofficial fan Web site.

The pair became friends, then developed a casual working relationship when Paradis moved to LA to be closer to her idol.

Paradis moved back home to Connecticut when the relationship went sour.

“I haven’t heard from her in over a year and a half, and all of a sudden this pops up,” she says.

Paradis maintains that she purchased the domain before moving to LA.

“I did it all with her permission. I was never paid to run the Web site or the fan club, or any of that. She always considered that a gray area.”

The perils of soap actors and their fans getting too close. Hall should have had a paid assistant or family member run the Web site, not a fan. Soap actors will never learn. They want the adoration and the free hard work, their fans put in.

These days, what's the difference? All three will screw you over.

Honestly what did that fan expect, she knew she was going to have to do all this work and if it was HER idea to come up with this, then IMO Deidre doesn't owe her anything. It's not like Deidre came to her and asked her to create a website.

Fans do that kind of stuff for free all the time. Look at all the GH fans selling juice for Steve Burton? He get's all the cash and they get a phone call from Jason Morgan.

Crystal Chapell and Eden Riegel milk the lesbians for everything they're worth.nOt so much Eden any longer , but she sure did in the past. Most ditched her when she went to Y&R.

Happens all the time and the fans are happy to do it.

Love this!!!

I can't stand Hall (she seems such a plastic ass "my [!@#$%^&*] don't stink" phony, she always came off so cold to me, I could never see how anyone liked her.) so I am more then willing to blame her for the fair share of this, however, it seems it was two sided with that CRAZEE ass fan (moving cross country to be near a soap star...WTF) Most likely Hall saw that she could use this nutball for free work and services and then the nutball turned on her.

I especiall LURVE the line where she says Hall told her to "touch up," pictures of her kids, including making her son look "skinnier," LOL...I can see that coming from Ms. Botox herself!

I think the $17,000 is an inflated number but if Diere wants the rights to the website and all the work that the fan put into it, then she should pay her. If she's not willing, then she needs to keep it moving and start her own website, fan club, etc... from scratch

But that is my point, most of these soap actors don't want to spend money on their own publicity. They secretly think that the fans are obsessive nutjobs (which most of them are), but they are willing to use them to do free publicity labor and then act shocked when they start acting nutty. Hall is as much to blame for this situation.

Exactly. I think she should do it as a sign of good faith and appreciation. Maintaining a website can be time consuming and expsensive especially if the fan ponyed up all the costs by herself. I dont think she should just handle control over it bc Hall wants it. Hall is crazy to think she should without at least some sort of compensation

at the same time, the fan owes Deidre nothing at all. If Deidre didnt put any money into creating or maintiang this website, then she should just get it just because. The fan didnt just come out and start demanding money from her. It seems more like a counterclaim that a lawyer came up with bc Deidre sued her first.

If that fan is doing things she shouldn't then she should sign over the website to Deidre. Sorry but someone who OFFERS to do this, shouldn't be reimbursed

She isnt asking to be reimbursed. Thats ONLY bc Hall is demanding that she give her control of the website. If Hall wasnt paying for it, then she shouldnt ask for it . She should leave it alone. The fan paid for it. She paid to have it maintained and she took her free time to work on it. Why should she be forced to just give that all away simply bc Hall wants it? It does not beleong to Hall. If she wants to buy it then thats a different story but she wants a freebie here.

I don't understand why some fanatics get themselves wrapped up in stuff like this, I really don't. It's unnecessary and borderline pathetic.

Exactly. I bet if instead of hiring a lawyer to file the sue, Hall had drawn up a confidentiality agreement, offered this woman $10,000 for the domain name and labor she put in, the woman would have been thrilled and moved on. After all, she is unemployed and could use the money. Hall put herself in this situation and has made it worse. It isn't on the fan.
