It is still on Plex. The commercials don’t bother me personally. The episode still runs less than an hour. Although I’m enjoying FC so much - first time watcher, up to mid-Season 6 - that I’d buy the seasons if they’re not too much.

Season 4 story plans for better or worse get derailed; to go from a James Bond/Indiana Jones style storyline to excessive melodrama overkill

Season 4 war crimes storyline was like a mashup of James Bond and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The abrupt ending to the war crimes storyline derailed all the momentum that was built during the course of the series and signs of tanking started showing during the last 10 or so episodes of season 4.

Agreed.

The Rossini revenge story had some intrigue but ended up being fumbled.

Lorraine’s death was unnecessary and cruel. The whole frame up of Lance was also extreme.

Writing off Pamela wasn’t a great move.

The Chase/Maggie/Richard/Connie quad was bit rushed at the end.

The explosion at Richard’s was probably the least dramatic season ending cliffhanger the show did lol.

The late season tanking is why the Spring 1985 cliffhanger is not as well-remembered as Bobby's car accident, Royal Wedding shootout, and Val's babies.

Yup, I've always assumed it was meant to end with the cave in, but I guess with a lot more characters involved. That seems like a more Falcon Crest season ending cliffhanger than what we got.

Yeah agreed. The Nazi treasure story was a little over the top but it was intriguing. Cutting it short hurt the show - I don’t think it ever recovered during the Earl Hamner era and led to the cheesefest that was Jeff Freilich’s reign on the show.

I, too, was disappointed in the abrupt ending to the Nazi storyline. I actually liked it. The Celeste Holm/Jonathan Frakes/Anne Archer story didn't work for me. But in Season 5, I really enjoyed Morgan Fairchild's storyline.

I also enjoyed Emma and the trucker, Dwayne! He should never have been killed off in the earthquake, imo. He was just as ditzy as she was and with a heart of gold. They would've remained a fun couple for me instead the AWFUL storyline Emma got in Season 6 with the fake psychic and the adopted baby.

I'm 3 episodes from finishing Season 6 and, overall, I've enjoyed it. I like Kim Novak and have enjoyed her stint on the show as well as having John Saxon for a season. I think I've said it before on here...I find recast Vicky just as annoying of a character and as bad of an actress as the original Vicky.

Susan Sullivan and Jane Wyman continue to shine in every scene they're in. As does Robert Foxworth - they really wrote Chase as an asshat this season and he plays it well.

Season 6 and 7 were the high-octane action-packed thrill ride seasons. Season 6 was an improvement over season 5 but it was still tanking and signs of going off the rails were showing during season 7.

Funny thing is SOD liked seasons 6 and 7 in the Best of 1987 and 1988 issues.

I think that's because they thought FC was fast-paced and unpredictable.

I wouldn't suggest that I preferred seasons six and seven over the rest of FC, but I do give FC (and KNOTS LANDING) credit for attempting to keep things fresh at a time when nighttime soap operas were on the decline.

Same. Ratings were off quite a bit during season 5 so they had to try something different. I don’t think it really worked, creatively, but I do give them credit for trying.

Season 5 tanking was cemented. The storylines were so start and stop and most of them really didn't work. Also being head-to-head with the new hotness Miami Vice and Dallas weakening as a lead in didn't help matters either.
