Wow--the entire ABC lineup has tanked down to almost ATWT levels. I know ABC owns the shows but, still, they can't be making much off of these shows. The Brenda press should have helped--it did not--and it just seems like every lame stunt back fires and causes further drops in the ratings. I admire how CBS stays pretty steady without major week to week flux. Even ATWT seems to be gaining ground as the show enters it's final weeks. I'd bet the final two weeks of ATWT rate higher than the entire ABC block.

I know what it is -- Brenda's return was so huge for GH, ratings-wise, they're not reporting the actual numbers, b/c they don't want the other shows to feel bad.

Right?

Right?

;-P

I always thought that was the most idiotic, lamest attempt to explain/blame low ratings.

When either AMC or OLTL is canceled (and I believe it is a matter of when, not if) what does everyone think will happen? ABC could always turn the time back over to the affiliates like it did when "Port Charles" was canceled. Or, the network could take a page from CBS and air a talk show (although they already have "The View") or a game show.

While I may be persecuted for saying so, having either an hour long game show (or two half-hours) could rejuvenate ABC Daytime. From what I understand, the ratings for "Let's Make a Deal" are not that much different from what "Guiding Light" was doing, especially in certain demographics.

I just read an article in The Atlantic about the 'death of soaps' and think it was pretty much on point. I will say, again, that people are still watching, ONLINE, with Days and Y&R getting a huge number of hits. I also think the situation with Y&R staying rather steady in the ratings proves that there is still an interest in the genre. I have no idea how they manage to pull in 5m viewers a day but those numbers should give people hope. When you add that 5 million to the viewers who watch Y&R on SoapNet plus online you must end up with a large number of watchers.

its amazing. I thought the show would go up. Not millions, but maybe at least a few thousand. Was not expecting a drop. I wonder how Frons will spin this. Oh its summer so soap viewers arent watching. Vannessa's fans dont watch soaps anymore so they didnt see our promos

Yes per usual ABC took a large gun and shot themselves in both feet. Toups is that the only time a soap/network counted a repeat?? I cannot seem to remember any other time a network willingly counted(a repeat) their lowest rated day, they could have left out. How silly was that??? It really leaves two options.

A. They thought Brendapalooza was going to get a massive rating.

B. They're idiots & they have no idea how the ratings and simple averages work.

And option A. only exist IF they had to decide to count it before they seen/knew the rating....(which I imagine is the case)

Otherwise it ONLY leaves option B.

Either way.....I'm sure they're none too happy.

Also per usual Kendall's many returns to AMC ......awakening from comas....blessed visits on stupidly named yachts ..... returning to see her true love and soul mate Ryan on his "death bed".......... all have done nothing good for the ratings. Go figure.

Exactly. Plus the 1.3-1.5 rating they got for repeats are like 75% of what they get airing originals. All this talk of Frons getting sent to the big offices and ABC being upset with these numbers are insane. They raised or maintained ratings in August for originals while their repeats did better than usual. What's not to love?

No way is ABC happy with these numbers. They spent a ton of money on her, and gave her a schedule that she wanted. And then they went and spent a ton of money promoting her return all over the place.

And all they did, even without including the Tuesday repeat, was "maintain" about what they had before.

They expected a bump, a big one, and so far they haven't gotten any return on their large investment.

They mistakenly thought VM was the reason the ratings were high back in 2002-2003. She wasn't.
