Was Claire Malis still playing Dorian at this time or was it Robin?

ATWT - I had never heard of this Tina. I guess she wasn't around for long?

SFT - Some of this sounds like it's a different path than what I've heard of SFT, the earlier years or the action adventure years. Starting up a theater, battles with Jo and the city council over development plans. It all sounds interesting. Was it any good? Ugh to "Colonel" and "Mignon."

GH - Was Chris Jurgens around for long or was he or she one of those people who only shows up when it's time to die?

Most bizarre summary ever...

Why couldn't Dexter have stayed around when those miserable Bay City Slasher/Stalker/Strangler stories started?

Chuck is a dumba$$.

I don't think Robin came to OLTL until later in 79.

Re SFT,the Corringtons did a great job of bringing people's jobs into the story and gave Henderson a sense of community.

On GH, Chris was a short term character. Knowing Marland's work,he could have been brought in earlier with the intention of killing him,so that the victims would be known to the audience, Chris was played by Chris Nelson, son of Ed Nelson(CAP,PP)

ATWT-Tina was played by Rebecca Hollen(Trish GL).She had designs on Grant and faked agoraphobia to stay at the Colman house.

Denise Pence-Katie on GL-was pregnant and the weight gain story was put in place to cover that.

Thanks Paul. I wish I could see some of this era of SFT. How were the ratings? Do you think given time they could have saved the show? I know by 1981 or so the show was deemed a mess.

I didn't know Rebecca was ever on ATWT. It sounds like a nothing role but I guess it helped her get into GL.

GH - Was this Howard/Gina/Gary stuff like a C-story? It's strange that these characters are the only ones of this era who are totally forgotten and had no impact. And was this doctor Bobbie had the hots for supposed to be a love interest for her after she was done with Scotty?

ATWT - This Betsy in school story sounds very dull. Was Valerie being written out around this time? Did Judith McConnell want to leave or was she fired? It's a shame. Judith seems like a perfect fit for that unique ATWT blend of everyday and of fire (Marie Masters, Kathryn Hays, Eileen Fulton, of that era). It seemed like they put her in stories with some of the show's big women, it's too bad that nothing really happened.

LOL - "Big Al" Did someone from Sisters watch this show?

DAYS - How much longer was Mary Frann on the show as Amanda? I wonder why they never brought Dougie back to give Doug or Julie a story.

AMC - I never knew Mark's mother was on the show.

OLTL - So this is the start of Gretel. Too bad the show never brought up her history with Dorian later on. Is it me or did Pat have a lot of crappy stories?

GL - The start of one of the show's best characters, Ross.

SFT - Was Meg Bennett still playing Liza?

LOL: Gosh I didn't realize how much this Bambi Brewster character dominated all the storylines at that time. I saw a small mention of Van/Meg but everything seemed to be tied up to this Bambi Brewster character. From what I read, this is what ended up killing the show. I always figured the show should have stayed about the sisters and their children. When does Ann Marcus take over as headwriter?

ATWT: I'm guessing March, 1979 is about the time that Susan departed from the show since mention is made of her moving to Seattle. While I liked that Marland bought her and Emily back into the mix in 1986, I've always wondered how things would have been different had she stayed on the show.

Y & R: I just love reading all about the early Paul/Nikki stuff... if only the show had made more mention of their early years when they were engaged last year. Was MTS playing Nikki at this time or was it still the original actress playing her? I'm glad to see that Lorie/Peggy were not too keen on Jill marrying their father. Did they ever touch on Chris' reaction (given that she was married to Snapper at the time?).

Y&R All of the Brooks sisters were against Stuart hooking up with Jill. In one ep they gathered at the house to appeal to their dad. This was unusual as Bill Bell tended to keep them separate eg Chris had little to do with the Lorie/Leslie story.

Re ATWT,I think the writers were finding it hard to write something for Kim and Dan,hence the Betsy story. These same writers would soon kill off Dan.

Judith McConnell's contract was up and Val was not a core character so she was ditched. At this time ATWT was trying to go younger and as they already had Lisa,Kim,Joyce,Mary in that age range so it was a chance to get rid of an older actress.

SFT Sherry Mathis was Liza. She started just after Steve died.I guess this is one reason viewers took to Travis/Liza because it was a different actress to Steve/Liza.

AMC Rosemary Murphy and Valerie French both played Maureen Teller,Mark's mom.

So is that why Mary and Joyce left in the next few years (or did Barbara Rodell want to leave anyway). Since the Dobsons seemed to bring Judith to Santa Barbara and wrote quite a bit for her, I wonder what they would have done if she'd been there when they came to ATWT. She narrowly missed them. They wrote for her at GH too I think.

It's strange that SFT could find two popular actresses for Liza and yet almost none for Patti.

The Corringtons set up SFT so well. They kept Jo,Su,Ellie,Gary ,Carolyn,Janet,Liza,David etc in the forefront and wove them in with new characters.

They did write off Scott and Kathy but those characters had been on for years and had married, divorced and remarried so they had been through a lot of story. Also,I don't think Peter Ratray was as well accepted as Scott as Peter Simon.Their only blood tie was Scott being Ellie's cousin.

Tom Bergman also was written off (or John James chose to leave)I think a recast would have been advisable as Tom was a legacy character.

I think Patti should have returned ,divorced or widowed.

Subsequent writers began dismantling this structure and the show fell to pieces.

I never knew Scott was recast. When did Peter Simon leave? Courtney Simon, she left and then came back didn't she? Or did she not? I can't remember. I know Nicolette Goulet took over the role at some point.

It's hard to believe that only three years after this CBS canceled the show. I guess things got bad between those times but it seems like they could have done something. I really think if they had made the effort the show might still be on today.

Were the Corringtons replaced or did they leave by their own choice? I wonder how viewers at the time felt about their work.

Well,SOD put Travis/Liza,Lee/Sunny and Stephanie/Martin on thee cover and that was the last time SFT made the cover,so that says something for the popularity of those characters and the show.

I guess the Corringtons got the chance to create Texas,so they left Search.

Who knows if they stayed if the show would have remained on course. They were never able to repeat their success at other shows they worked on.

I recall an interview with them.He was an author as well as a lawyer and they lived in New Orleans(a locale they used on Search)They had written for movies like Battle for Planet of the Apes.P&G approached them and they did a 6month outline for Another World, working with Paul Rauch. When they began on Search, they felt the show wasn't living up to its title, not looking to tomorrow. They had the community confront issues, stating it has never been a theme show but a character show and they intended to keep it that way.
