Exactly. It's like "Hi! I'm a 40 year old actress, yet again, showing I have absolutely no growth as an actress and act like I'm stuck in high school."

I mean, seriously. How many times do we have to see her suck her teeth, shake her hair, stomp her feet and wiggle her neck to convey "tough Carly?"

Laura Wright is lucky that Brian Frons' penis goes erect for her, because otherwise, she would not have lasted in this role. I am no JFP lover, but knowing what I've learned about her production methods, this Laura Wright is NOT her kind of actress. The mugging, the eye rolling, the "cute" face she made behind Robin's back... Nah. Laura Wright is not a lead actress. Sorry for her fans, who will most likely think I'm crazy... but she simply is not!

I'm a casual viewer of the show, but what is the general assessment of Lulu? I know JMB has won two Emmys but I was curious what the fans feel. It sounds rude but I really can't get over her botoxed and surgeried face. She's much too young for that.

I think the general assessment of Lesley Lu is that she's a whiny, annoying, spineless shrew. LOL. Atleast to me she is. I can't believe I used to love this girl. Now I can't stand her. The way she acts like she's this saint. Always protecting Dante, and standing by his side over everyone else. She's become sickening, IMO. She, along with Dante, are on the show every single day, we never get a day without one or both of them being on. It's just tiring. They used to be cute and refreshing, but then GH started using them increasingly more and more and now it's just overkill.

All they do is have sex, talk about stuff, and have sex. Then Dante goes and does business. Repeat.

JMB is a good Actress when given the material, I just think most of the time she's just not that great.

I can see it now, Olivia will go to Jake's all depressed after seeing Johnny and Brook Lynn together, and her and Coleman will get more aquainted with each other ;-).

Laura Wright was a "casting coup" hire. It was a way to get a "name" actress into the role of Carly without having to worry about her leaving when her first contract cycle was up. And while I completely admit to preferring "Cassie Layne" over the Sarah Brown/Mariah Carey hybrid(who I always felt was just so lifeless), there is really no growth from her as an actress and her choices are often so jarring. Instead of making up where the writing is deficient, she continues playing everything the exact same way, arrogant, snarling, selfish, princess bitch.

And no need to worry. When Laura Wright gets older and less attractive, she will become completely irrelevant. I mean, she kind of already is. Guarantee of one day a week, no story. And like every other GH actress in the same position, she'll either get fat(Genie) or get a facelift that will completely wreck her visage(Jackie, Leslie).

Compare Carly's Dante/Lulu story with Claudia's Michael/Kristina story. They both want petty, childish revenge. But Sarah Brown at least interpreted the dialogue in a way that made you understand that while Claudia's motivations for wanting these two teenagers dead was quite petty, her actions were driven out of desperation and heartbreak. All Laura Wright can ever play with this story(or any other) is smug entitlement. "I am Carly and this is NOT FAIR!" When Carly cries, it's more like a temper tantrum instead of someone actually heartbroken over her son being "meat" in prison and these two people's actions causing that to happen.

ETA: I still keep thinking about the one scene recently where she tells Sonny that she wished Michael had been raised by the Quartermaines because even though she told Sonny that to hurt him, I believe at least from the way the scene was written that she was telling the truth at that moment. But instead of Laura playing those moments with multiple shades and beats, it was the typical, "I'M GONNA YELL THIS TO MAKE YOU ANGRY BECAUSE I AM ENTITLED STREETFIGHTAH!"

GH has so many couple possibilities, it's overwhelming. I have been pairing up people in my head for the longest. And yet, the show has close to NO couples.

ETA: About Olivia/Steve...I don't know. I feel like Olivia would tower over Steve or something, and it just wouldn't work. I picture them together and I just don't see it. lol.

Nail, meet Head.

It surprises me that LW's interpretation is so one-note, Wright having been a major GH and Carly fan for years. And yet, it all boils down to her first SoapTalk interview as NuNuNuCarly, where she bragged about knowing she was perfect for the role. "I knew I was going to KICK ASS, TAKE NO PRISONERS," she said -- before going on to credit Kim Zimmer for helping to give her her "acting chops." Every scene Carly is in, I flash back to that interview. It's like it's playing in a loop in her head, too, as she tosses her mane back and trots through every scene KICKING ASS AND TAKING NO PRISONERS.

And that hiss/snarl she gave Robin yesterday was just... something out of Animal Kingdom. Every ounce of vulnerability, every feeling of rejection that Carly ever possessed was sucked away and replaced by a chimpanzee impression.

OMG!! YOU TOO!! This is just amazing. BC and you both are just basically sitting in my brain and picking and choosing all the thoughts I have about this horrid Laura Wright Character using the name "Carly," and posting them. I needn't say a word!

Okay, well except this: To your point about LW being a major GH/Carly fan and her surprisingly disappointing portrayal, it just goes back to what I've said before. She's not inhabiting the character of Carly. She's just doing an impression of Carly. She knows Carly well enough to know a couple of traits here and there and just uses them to give off the impression. Like when a friend of yours copies your walk or mannerisms and says a couple of your sayings, we all laugh because we know that's supposed to be you... but it's not really a true representation of you.

    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
