Rank the Soaps' Production Values

Basically just rank the soaps by their current production values from best looking soap to the most unattractive, pertaining to lighting, condition of sets, etc. You don't have to do all soaps just the ones you watch.

I pretty much try to keep with all soaps, so I will rank all the current ones:

1. GH

2. AMC

3. ATWT

4. OLTL

5. B&B

6. Y&R

7. DAYS

I'm going to give them a grade, to.lol

1.GH A+ (The show looks fantastic. That's one thing JFP is brilliant at with this show: production values)

2.AMC B- (Use more colors besides brown and make the show look more like how it looks in those "DISCOVER AMC!" promos and stuff. Oh yeah, and burn that nauseating casino set and remodel Tad's fugly house.)

3.DAYS F-----(The show looks absolutely pathetic. There is nothing visually interesting or endearing about DAYS. I turn my color setting to B&W when I watch the show. It's a fuchsia, purple, orange, and a little bit of pink, HOT MESS. The lighting is atrocious, everyone looks like they are melting. The sets are boring, and it's just ugh!!! Imagine if DAYS looked like GH lol..)

AMC - A. The move and going HD really helped this show go from ok to fab. The casino is an eyesore tho.

B&B - A. The show looks and sounds fantatic.

Y&R - B. Its def not as good as it was, but its not bad.

Days - C. I dont think tis bad as it is made out to be. No its nothing special or great, but its not awful. It gets the job done and looks prety much like it always has. But that damn pink tint is annoying.

GH - A. The HD move changed everything.

OLTL - C. I dont see what some rave about. I find it much like days.

Good lord Jack, OLTL much like Days? Wow.

1) GH- How a show goes from the ugliest show on daytime to the most impressive- lighting is everything.

2) OLTL- Best lighting design on daytime, moody and effective. Makes the show's really small sets look so much better than they are. With the exception of any set in Roxie's dump of a hotel- beyond hopeless. Simply disgusting.

3) Y&R- Once the best by a mile, the show has lost its luster. Its gray.

4) B&B

5) ATWT- I think this show is really underrated in terms of its production values. The sets seem really homey.

6) AMC- Tacky, neon, cheap. The only reason I don't rank it last is because of HD

7) Lit like an 80's sitcom. Terrible sets. No character.

Why is this funny? Isn't it to be expected? But yeah the same thing happened at AMC... Oh and I agree about the casino (though I like Tad's house and the fact it looks "normal" even if a tad ugly--not super fancy.)

Agreed on the lighting, isn't it odd that AMC used to share their production designer? (I know you hate AMC, but :P ). Again though I like that her hotel is so dumpy--that's the point isn't it?

GH: A I think the show looks amazing and HD definitely enhances the look for them.

AMC: A- I love how great the show looks since the move to California. It would have given the show a solid A but the Casino set is horrid.

Days: B I don't hate the sets and lightning like most people on the boards. I love the use of color with the wardrobe and the sets.

Y&R: B+ I have always thought the show has been classy and posh looking.

OLTL: B I don't think the show looks too bad and I think they do a lot with the limitations that they have.

B&B: C- I think the show needs an overhaul and I think the audio is horrible.

ATWT: B I don't really watch the show that often but from what I have seen the sets are okay.

Funny in the sense that the show did a total 180 almost overnight. Who spat on your sandwich? It was a figurative expression, nothing literal.

GH has almost the same sets and everything, but they don't look as harsh as they did before.

I still hate AMC's lighting, it's way too peach and California for my liking. The directing is also quite bland on the show, as is the general set design, areas where GH generally improved in with the switch to HD.

in terms of production quality, for the most part yes. both soap have mediocre sets. they directing varies episode to episode, imho. both use lots of colors and have great set design. oltl has better lighting tho, but thats about all its better at. i find on days the kiriakis mansion, bo house, maggies kitchen, the pub, the bar, samis townhome and the apartments all look good. the only reg set i dont like is the docks and thats because it looks nothing like a dock. it lookes like an industiral buidling interior with park decor.

this clip has a lot of sets in it. judge for yourself.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so harumphy... I guess I just always assumed a show WOULD upgrade when they went to HD so it seemed the opposite of ironic or funny to me. Sorry about my tone...

I agree about AMC's lighting--I blame JHC there, sigh, as that's been a prob since she came. In NYC AMC had a couple of good directors--Angela Tessinari (sp?) is the one that I liked best, but I haven't been as good at paying attention to them post move. But certainly one of GH's strongest poitns is directing.
