“HAPPY ENDINGS”

Forget who gets to keep the ring – when a couple splits, the real question is, who gets to keep the friends? In this modern comedy, a couple’s break-up will complicate all of their friends’ lives and make everyone question their choices. When life throws you for a curve, hold on tight to the people you love. Every circle of friends has someone who’s the gravitational center. For years, perfect couple Dave and Alex drew their friends in and held them together. Now that they’ve split, does this group have the stuff to stay together? Or do Max, Brad, Jane and Penny have to choose sides? Suddenly every event is a negotiation… like, who gets to go on the annual ski trip? There are a lot of big questions to be answered, but this group has been together so long, somehow, little by little, they’ll figure out how to hold on, even though their center is split up. It helps that Dave and Alex have agreed to stay friends. But there will definitely be other complications down the road – like Penny’s long-suppressed feelings for Dave. What is the waiting period for dating a friend’s ex? This show isn’t afraid to ask the embarrassing personal questions that inevitably arise in every long-term, close-knit group of friends. “Happy Endings” stars Elisha Cuthbert (“24”) as Alex, Eliza Coupe as Jane, Zachary Knighton as Dave, Adam Pally as Max, Damon Wayans, Jr. as Brad and Casey Wilson as Penny. From executive producers Jamie Tarses, Jonathan Groff, Anthony & Joe Russo, and co-executive producer David Caspe, “Happy Endings” examines the complex network of long-term friendships. The pilot was written by David Caspe and directed by Anthony & Joe Russo. The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.

I can't put my finger on it, but there's something very bland and generic about this series' premise. And I, for one, am sick of series revolving around whiny twentysomethings who are painfully hip.

I said I'd give this show shot but after viewing the promo, it's a pick up for me. I really like the cast, plus I'm in that age group so I can identify with the characters. Too bad i'll have to wait until midseason.

This show doesn't do a lot for me. It's trying way too hard to be quirky and crazy and yet the characters behave in insane ways for no apparent reason. When you expect people to behave like nuts there's no real amusement when they actually do. Some of them overact horribly. The worst is the guy who sold his Beanie babies to run a stretch limo business.

I couldnt disagree more.

It IS over the top, almost slapstick comedy. And not mally i hate this, but the character relationships and actors are so good. I love it. It makes me laugh out loud more than any other sitcom in at least 10 years. I was just in vegas and met a fellow happy endings fan we both did Alex's hullahoop dance, and next thing you know a ton of random people joined and we discussed the show.

Its nothing mind blowing, or game changing. Its just funny, to me anyways.

I do love that they acknowledge that the black guy is black and the gay guy is gay instead of acting like we live in a world where its no longer a factor. I also really love that the characters have individual relationships with each other and not just as a group.

I kinda fall in the middle of you two--I enjoy a lot about it, but I admit nearly every episode has at least one (usually more) wacky for the sake of wacky moment that kinda throws me. But I agree with you Jack about the relationships--both as a group and with each other which seems rare in these friends sitcoms.

For me the relationships just seem strained. For instance, even in wacky sitcom land, I don't believe the black guy would put up with this woman who goes around stalking her long lost daughter and even planning to kidnap this daughter. It's tough for me to believe the guy who runs the sandwich shop would put up with this headcase who rents out his room to strangers, destroys his business, etc. It's just too much crazy followed by a big fake "happy" moment at the end.

I did enjoy the scenes at the clothing shop where the women wanted to act above the high school girls and then became just like them. I thought it was funny and yet fairly believable.

The writing is brilliant and sharp and quick. To me, it's on the superb level of Modern Family, 30 Rock, Community, Cougar Town, How I Met Your Mother, The Office.

Brad and Max's Black-and-White movie night!

Max: Dude, you psyched for movie night? I got all the best black-and-white classics: I got Lethal Weapon, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop…

Brad: Uh, Beverly Hills Cop is black-and-white AND white.

Max: Well, what about Men in Black?

Brad: That's black-and-white IN black.

Max: What about Erin Brockovich?

Brad: 'S just white as hell.

Max: Royal Tenenbaums?

Brad: C'mon, bro. That's white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, black… brown…. and white!

Dave: Oh! Okay. Richard Gere is not a Hurricane Katrina denier.

Alex: What?

Dave: I just said that to you so we wouldn’t have to watch Pretty Woman for the 74th time.

Webbed-socks? I never even heard of those.

Max: Oh my God! You're like Black-Max? You're Blax?

Darryl: Hold up. Is this White-Darryl?

Brad: I need to take a break from talking about NPR, recycling, and that awesome chest pass Steve Nash made.

Max: Don't you wish they had trading cards of designers.

Max: What's happening here?

Brad: Just talking T's with my B's who are G cause they like D. LMAO!

Brad: You know Murtaugh would never bail on Riggs, even when real life Riggs gets super racist and verbally abusive towards his boo.

Max: You sure you're not on the low?

Brad: It's my cell phone, man.

Brad: Now let's get out of these dresses......

Brad: The only place this is going to lead to is Melissa John Hart playing you in a Lifetime movie.

Penny: Billy Garrity wants me to text him a picture. Which one should I wear? "Put me to bed" or "I pooped"? I just answered my own question.

Alex: My store is the Peach Pit, deal with it!

Kid: You're from the future? Do I ever stop peeing in my pants?

That is a-mah-.....nope not going to say it. LOL I loved Alex's hulahoop dance too.

The Penny/Max mother/baby costume was one of the funniest/brilliant things ever. laugh.png

HAPPY-ENDINGS-Spooky-Endings-Season-2-Episode-5-3-550x366-300x199.jpg

And the hand movements!! And when Penny danced with Abe Lincoln! LMAO!

Also, the kid carrying around a door because he was "one of The Doors." LOL

In episode 2.6, Alex dates a guy who comes up with the best and elaborate dates, so on one of the dates, they are watching Princess Bride and gets Fred Savage to do the commentary! LMAO!!! (Fred Savage also directed the epsiode).

Brent Musburger giving Brad the Boston College/Doug Flutie play analogy and doing the call was amazing!

Jane and her "annoying sorority sister" doing their cheerleading chant: "We're easy....we're easy....we're easy on the eyes.........we're spread.....we're spread.....we're spreading our wings.....we're sore.....we're sore....we're soaring through the skies......"

Man this show is so brilliant. I'm so glad it's doing better in the ratings.
