The Mary Tyler Moore Show

They don't know how to do themes anymore. I'd rather see just a title card than a Muzak theme or badly shopped photos of the likes of Jesse Metcalfe and the other blandos.

That worries/intrigues me. As long as they keep the melody. I have an awesome version of the Knots theme in my head, I wish I was a musician. :-/

I have to admit, seeing JM in a three panel screen, inevitably flashing his tits in the center one, kind of makes me puke.

This is a link to some pics of Mary's original apt and a few items of trivia about the show. I think it's funny how the owners of the building posted Impeach Nixon signs in the windows to discourage passers by and the show from shooting more exterior shots. There is also a link to the actual interior of the building and how it was also broken up into apartments.

I didn't realize Ms. Llanview had already posted that list of NAN shows! I don't seem to remember Happy Days being on as late as 2003, though. I'm pretty sure that's some Wikipedia vandalism at work. The Garry Marshall shows were definitely TVLand-only by then.

And of course, Hallmark has slashed the hell out of Mary's iconic theme song and opening sad.png It's just a quick shot of the multicolored MARY TYLER MOORE logo that sorta weirdly morphs into the shot of her tossing her hat into the air. Pitiful.

I noticed that. Total bastardation of classic TV. Ugh.

That's something that gripes my arse big time.

That's why I love Antenna TV and Me-TV. They don't do that.

When watching the show as a kid, I always got the feeling that the house was out in the middle of nowhere, especially when they'd show it covered with snow. If you look it up on Google Maps, it's actually on a corner in a fairly crowded neighborhood.

I wish the marathon today had been more of a survey of good episodes from throughout the run. I haven't seen The Lars Affair in YEARS, nad that is my absolute favorite. Sue Ann closing the oven door with her knee cracks me up every time

Yeah, I wonder why they decided to focus only on the first two seasons or so. It doesn't make much sense to me.

I too hated how Hallmark butchered the opening credits. You just can't do that to an iconic opening that sums of the sensibility and feel of the actual show.

MTM's final curtain call. Includes the original credits over MTM introducing the cast for the final bow, and the syndicated closing credits.

That was beautiful. This is one cast that seemed very close and dearly appreciated the work they were doing. I think this might be one of the top 5 finales ever for a sitcom.

I always loved that they brought Rhoda and Phyllis back for the finale. Most shows, especially today, wouldn't have bothered.

I also always found it interesting that the last episode of Phyllis aired during the same week as the The Mary Tyler Moore Show finale.

The best part was that Phyllis acted exactly as she did in the MTM days - that mushiness of her own show had been shaken off.

I think the only cast friction I remember hearing about was between Chloris and Ed Asner.

Cloris also seems to have some type of strange hatred for Betty in recent years.

I know that can be perceived as her joking around, but she's been consistently making comments about Betty for years now - about how "sick" she is of Betty and how she doesn't understand the fascination with her. Betty's always joked it off though.

Not that I don't see her point, as Betty herself doesn't get why she's been so hyped up in recent years.

I own the first season DVD and I haven't listened to it in years, but there was commentary of the first episode (I could swear by Ed Asner) and he raves about Cloris Leachman more than just about anyone else on the show. He just raved about the scenes with the three women in the apartment, thought they were all the best and he cited Leachman's movement through the scene as almost doing a dance and loved her slow burn at Bess.

That was nice of him. I wonder if the anger was more recent or just something she put in her book to get attention. She said that he yelled at her at some big event. At first she thought it may have been because of their different political views, but then she thought it was down to her talking in an interview about a sex bet they had made.

The theme song being cut didnt bother me at all, and i too love it.

The marathon was great fun and i loved the movie too.

cant wait to have MTM daily again.

I was beyond pissed to see the opening cut. They cut the Bob Newhart opening too.

I guess I don't mind if it means less cuts to the episodes, but you know those are chopped beyond belief too. HOWEVER, it is nice to see both iconic shows back on the air (as well as the Facts of Life on TeenNick and The Hub)

an interesting article in the new EW magazine, did you all know that originally Rhoda was universally hated? I never knew that.

It's an interesting read

Hated by whom? She was definitely the antagonist all throughout the pilot until her very last scene, and even I feel indifferent toward her when I watch that episode, and Rhoda ended up becoming my favorite character on the entire show.

And, yall, I'm fighting hard this urge to drive this off topic with discussion of The Bob Newhart Show.
