I'm sure it hurts to end a 20 year friendship - but it may also be a welcome relief to LVP because it seemed to be the source of a lot of personal turmoil.

Give LVP 10 years - she won't be living in California full time. She will go back to England.

See?  That might be why. I haven't seen a full episode since their trip to the gay bar due to work. LOL!!!

But I assumed that since she was boring up until that point that she was turned up to keep her job. :)

RHoBH

TT just did an intriguing column over the power dynamic through the 5 seasons of RHoBH and how it leads to this current season.

Thoughts? Because I found it fascinating.

This is so ironic. Mohammad had a convo with Lisa off camera that she went and repeated on camera thinking he would back her up and he didnt. Sound familiar?

I found it fascinating...but easily disputable. TT definitely has a strong take on everything she writes about and the one downside of her site is that she runs it with an iron fist. If people don't agree with her then they are immediately called a litany of unflattering names that belittle their logic and bolster hers.

I think she underestimates Kyle's role in a lot of things and gives LVP and LemonLyme too much credit for themselves. I also think she misjudges season 1 - LVP was the breakout star from the first episode, she was never grasping to be the centre of attention: she was always the focal point. She also misjudges LVP moving houses - TT says LVP needed to move into a "better house" - yet LVP's current home is substantially less expensive and smaller than her old house and not in a gated community. Finally, she definitely seems sympathetic to Dim Richards when it isn't warranted.

I thought the article was interesting as well but I have the exact same issues that you have not only with the site but her opinions. You literally can not have a differing opinion than her without the insults that follow because she  disagrees.

Yes the first season was mainly about Kyle vs. Camille but LVP was undoubtedly the break out star. I also remember thinking LVP's new house is smaller than the last, I think Vanderpump actually stated as much.

TT is a bright lady and enjoy her site very much. I thought this was a good analysis with a lot of salient points. However, I would agree with you both on the tendency to belittle other opinions (I guess it's her site so she can do what she wants), and especially with your differing analyses regarding Season 1. I remeber before I had seen S1, DaytimeFan on this very thread urging me to watch it because Lisa Vanderpump was so fabulous in it. I definitely think that Production and Kyle probably had in mind before the show started that it might be centered around her as 'central heroine,' but very quickly LVP and Camille were the HWs that the audience couldn't get enough of watching. Kyle had that Smugness Factor (and outing her sister's alcoholism did not look good on her), and Camille was just... wow, lol. So LVP ended up being the HW much of the audience warmed to.

Even Andy Cohen said that as soon as they found LVP, Bravo knew they had found the show's lynchpin character.

Just talking about this made me realize what an awesome jewel Season 1 was. Sigh.

Exactly. LVP's old house sold for $19 million and was 17,000 square feet while her current house was purchased for $10 million and is 8,800 square feet - half the price and half the size, so TT misjudged that one.

In Andy's book Most Talkative he said that the production company and Bravo worked like crazy to convince LVP to sign on and that when she agreed they knew the show was set and that they "had found [their] Joan Collins"...now that has to irk Kyle, as many of us have always suspected that despite her role in the casting of the show (and as Camille said, Kyle has profit participation in the show...) she's never, ever, been the star of it.

Despite TT's analysis that everything boils down to LVP vs. Yolanda, I think Kyle's role in the evolution (and devolution) of the show has mattered an awful lot as well.

Absolutely. The backlash that Kyle got after S2 Reunion (when she and Adrienne decided to 'take down' LVP and she served up the "Bobby Fischer" comment) was real. All the seasons following that have been an attempt to make Poor Kyle appear the victim of LVP's unforgiving ways... or of Kim's crazy... or of Brandi's ratchetness. I assume to rebuild her rep with the viewing audience. Eventually, last season, Kyle got back on-side with both LVP and many viewers. TT never addressed that S2 Reunion in her blog piece when IMO it was a huge turning point. It solidified Brandi's S3 presence on the show, and it ushered out Taylor, Camille and, eventually, Adrienne, requiring new sets of HWs (including Yolanda) to come on the show.

She also failed to mention that originally Lisa, Yolanda, and Brandi were a little clique which was probably the most the audience ever liked either of them.

Yes - that reunion was ugly and it set the course for the ouster of Adrienne and Taylor. Adrienne slit her wrists with LVP (that lunch of theirs will go down as memorable in its awkwardness as Adrienne flailed like a dead fish before The Queen). Kyle got her first taste of backlash and she seems to have been acutely aware of it since, always trying to avoid being the one to visibly antagonize anyone.

    • There are so many beats that could be played with relationships and history b/w  characters. But cast/set restrictions (and loust writing) are destroying that. Really liked seeing Jack and Nikki catch up. Trouble is, in the current version of Y&R it had to continue the entire episode. Hearing Lily talk on the phone to Maddie-how much better if we had actually seen the kids during Cane's return. Would the original actors return for a short stint? Maybe not and perhaps they don't feel a recast would work. All of this could have been avoided by letting BF be a new character. For the amount of difference it's made , there was really no need to bring back Cane.
    • Zeman said Marland created Barbara Jean Spencer, they called her Barbara until she and Monty decided Bobbie would be better as a nickname. It was almost Barbie IIRC, and they didn’t think that was right. She also has said on more than one occasion that she came in during the transition and Monty didn’t hire her, but ended up liking her. So Scotty and his friend must have been talking about her. This episode was fascinating. I am so happy it was shared. I can absolutely see why the show was in trouble. It’s lifeless and old fashioned as far as dialogue and some of the staging. Monty herself said she threw those episodes out, so that makes me think they were even worse. Which really made sense to me watching this because I only saw a glimpse of Monty in the less static scene with Rick moving all around while talking to David and the same type of staging with Scotty, Laura, and his friend’s name I cannot remember right now. That long ass scene through Monica’s eyes was very old fashioned as far as style. I can also see why the ratings started rising relatively quickly. Most of the earliest Monty shows I have seen are a few months later, and the show is very different. It moves, the characters are more intense, the staging has movement, and it feels more modern for the time. By the time you get to 1979 it’s really rocking and I totally get it in a way I didn’t before just from seeing this. Genie was so young to play that story with creepy Hamilton. And Kin sure was cute as nice guy Scotty.
    • Kate previously shadow directed or directed some scenes? on Days before GH, so it's been a passion of hers for a bit.
    • Who is monitoring her spending? Maybe the upshot is that Leslie is spending way beyond her means and she'll end up broke again. The house will be repossessed etc, Part of her comeuppance.
    • Kimberly McCullough shadowed at GH and completed an ABC directing program, but I don’t believe she was ever credited as director or given an episode of her own to do. One of the reasons why she got work so quickly was because she had multi-cam knowledge from years on soaps.
    • Do not apologize for this. I was thinking just today it's bringing me fond memories of when I was a teen of Angie and Jessie. Jenny and Greg, Philip and Beth. And although they were teens, Steve and Betsy.  I like a good teen story.
    • Yeah Suzanne mentions Y&R here  (no spoilers in the article) https://www.tvinsider.com/1227485/days-of-our-lives-suzanne-rogers-anniversary-maggie-storylines-mickey-victor/
    • I wonder if she may be transitioning to behind the scenes.  How many GH actors have also directed while acting on the show?
    • Despite my wish that Ric get revenge on Alexis and the gang, I really enjoyed their scenes today. RH and NLG have honestly never lost their chemistry with one another. Seems like Carly genuinely let herself give into Brennan today and regret it. Also just cause I smoked earlier it, it randomly hit me for the first time in over a decade. They had Michael murder Claudia played by the actress that played all of the most important early Michael stories. Kinda twisted lol
