GH: MICHAEL RECAST

You act like this guy is Lizzie McGuire or Hannah Montana. For all we know, Duell may have had connections within ABC, may have even met Brian Frons or someone even higher up. Frons, seeing the kids potential and knowing his penchant for looks over talent, may have decided to force a new direction and a new actor onto the Michael character, despite Guza and the cast's protesting.

Well for God's sake, they have the poor kid locked on an island, on one set. They may have taped multiple scenes in advance for Drew to blindside him and ease the transition, literally isolating him from the fallout of this story for a justifiable but lame reason(Michael's gonna tell!).

Regardless of if Drew was a problem on the set, they definitely had this planned for awhile. They removed the most exciting part of the equation from the trial(the actual killer) and locked him up on an island with little dramatic material.

A downgrade? You mean in terms of artistic value?!

Disney has owned ABC for 15 years and they've never tried to force any of their teen names onto ABC soaps to replace popular actors or to fill major roles. Frons hasn't done that either, to my memory. I guess it could have started now but I wonder if it's more about wanting to take Michael in a direction beyond a sociopathic, woman-hating little thug. Garrett may be a good actor, I don't know, but he may have also been too identified in the network or production's eyes with the uglier side of Michael. I guess we'll see if the writing for Michael changes with the recast.

How incredibly closedminded and shortsighted. But then again, I should have expected that.

I hadn't even heard of this f*cking kid before he was mentioned as a recast for Michael. Nor have I really heard of this show.

And I doubt this kid commands a high salary, given that he's not a "name" actor anyway. It's not like the average American is gonna stop him on the street and go, "Oh wow. You're that twink from the Wizards of Waverly Place."

The guy probably has a really good agent and more than likely damn good connections he made within ABC/Disney and begged for a job.

Ugh, F*CK THIS SHOW!

I loved Glass Closet Morgan!:mad::mad: So much potential there!

They're slowly dismantling everything I like about this show.

Im sorry, but exactly what artistic value does GH hold? Current day modern GH?

And really? Personal backhanded put downs? I expected more.

I didnt claim he was famous and well known or commands a high salary, just that i highly doubt GH fired him because Frons forced them to hire this kid that was on two episodes each of two hit disney chan shows.

I think this kid deserves a chance. He is not to blame for DG being fired. He shouldnt be judged because he was some kid sitcom either. Mark Hapka came from Hannah Montana and he has done great on days as Nathan.

    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.
    • The Egypt location shoot was cancelled because of the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
