OLTL: Marty/John/Natalie

does anyone think that Thorsten Kaye will end up returning for May sweeps? OL seemed to have the Mitch/Cramer girls story already in play for February, so this would give the show time to figure out how they could get Thorsten (salary-wise). Roscoe Born and Crystal Hunt leaving...and probably a couple of smaller cuts might make it happen. I can't believe with Thorsten staying in NY that ABC wouldn't pull out whatever they could to get him on board.

I can see Patrick returning from the dead to find Marty pregnant with another man's baby.

If she was on Days of our Lives playing one of the five veterans who sit in their drafty, abandoned house waiting for the under-30s to show up, Jack would love her and declare 2010 a new renaissance for Haskell's career.

I do think that Susan Haskell's Marty has been bland of late, but I blame that on the poor writing for her. I don't blame it on Susan herself. She's kind of been around to follow John, or to be Nick's doctor (when she's a shrink), or be Todd's punching bag. That's hardly Susan's fault.

I think Susan is more than capable of giving great performances when she has the material. She did when she blew up at Todd last week. I wish there was a way to write a deeply flawed woman who is not crazy or a bitch or chasing after a man. The real problem with Mary is she has been identified by the men in her life for so many years now. I wish they could have taken her back to a more mature version of what she was in her first year or so on the show. I guess that might have been where they were going if someone hadn't pushed Jarty back together.

My problem with Marty was that she was defined by the rape. No matter what they did with the character it always came back to Todd and the rape. Dylan, Suede, Patrick it didn't matter who she was with because in the end it was always about Todd. CC's Marty kind of had her own stories with Miles and Spencer but when they brought SH back she immediately became St. Marty of the Perpetual Rape and that's all she'll ever be. It doesn't matter how good an actress SH might be and FTR I don't think she's that great. I don't hate her but I find her limited. She's good at "victim" and "angry victim" but that it, IMO.

her talent isn't romantic lead, but everyone has something they are good at and something they aren't, I think they will break up Jarty real soon, so maybe they can move her onto stories she is better at and also try her out with other actors to see if she clicks with anyone, Jarty was something DH thought up with no thought or care that the actors had no chemistry and it didn't make sense

Oh, hunnie please at least get the facts straight when you try to be catty. I also find it amusing how you always like to speak for me, glad to know your that into me i guess...

Days has far more than 5 vets. (Unless your def of Vet is just over 60?..) Furthermore, Maggies house is far from abandoned as she has three people living there and has more sets in her house than any other house on the show. She also does a damn lot more than just waiting for the under 30set.

If Haskell had some life in her like Chappell or Rogers or even Burnett and Sweeney i wouldn't mind her. walks around detached and board. Its painfully obvious. She was also brought on for a todd prop, and now that they dont need her for that she serves no purpose because they had no longterm plan. I really hope that with Gina T coming on SH will be let go.

SH can give a powerhouse performance. No denying that. However on a soap you dont have a powerhouse scene or storyline every day you are on. There are plenty of actress who have sold just as bad and worse than what SH is getting right now. (KD for example)

    • I am a couple days behind, but is it just me or do some of the glimpses of Martin's nightmare look like a police traffic stop?
    • IIRC, there was fan outcry when viewers realized Donna was going to be killed, although someone more in the know might have a better idea. Donna was always more popular with viewers than she probably should have been, which I credit Stuart for. I do agree she would have been easier to write out than Felicia or Rachel.  Cass and Donna dated briefly during the Malone run (late 1997). http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/cassd.html AW should have invested much more in Quinn than they did. All the pieces were in place for her to, at the very least, have a steady build in importance the way Jessica did on ATWT at that time. AW had moved away from usual patterns by bringing Henrietta and Quinn into the show to diversify the canvas. What always bothers me is the comment an AW person gave to SOD after fan complaints over Quinn's death - essentially, they did not know Quinn had any fans. Says it all.
    • I like that the Martin story hasn't been frequent.  The nightmares are airing only periodically.  Each time, we viewers see more of the accident or whatever happened.  I think we might (or at least I might) be annoyed if we saw the nightmares too often.  At this point, I've become more curious, and so, when it's finally revealed, I think the timing will be just right.
    • Total agreement.  But wasn't AW wonderful with all those servants?  Louise, Brooks, Rocky, Karl (never seen), Beatrice, Helga, Sven, Vivian, etc.  None of the post-Lemay servants ever seemed to resonate, nor did any of them last very long.  I do think BTG would benefit from casting at least one servant for Anita and Vernon.  And perhaps another for Nicole and Ted.  The show needs more have-nots for the different perspective.
    • Interesting, I didn't know the origins of their "friendship." Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Linda Dano or Felicia, but maybe the show would have been better off if they killed off Felicia instead of Quinn and built around her. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't OLTL & ATWT pretty white at that time? Of all the stuff they threw at walls during that time to see what stuck, appealing to Black viewers seemed like a no-brainer. Especially since NBC had success at that time in Primetime with The Cosby Show & 227. Even in the mornings with Bryant Gumbel on Today. Of course, didn't have to be an either/or. I didn't mean to convey that Donna's isolation was the reason. Rachel, Felicia & Donna were all rich, 50ish brunettes whose characters started bleeding together by that point. Granted, mostly due to the bad writing of the writers she hired. Of the 3, getting rid of Donna would have been by far the easiest as VW had the most longevity/caused the biggest uproar; and Dano was the face of the show to the industry (and her favorite of the bunch). Thanks for the info of the alcoholism story. It was right before I started watching so I've only seen the clips of the intervention. Don't remember Cass & Donna at all. Was it last year of the show before he got with Lila? I was mostly checked out at that point.

    • Phillip/Harley made more sense as friends (as they were portrayed to be during the Pam Long era).. and I could even buy them being a short-term couple.. but end game they were not. Didn't GA say he thought it out of character that he would choose Harley over Beth.. or that he would leave Beth/Lizzie back in AZ in order for him to chase a vendetta?  I know that when Beth Chamberlain came back as Beth in late 1997, she was told instantly that the writing would be slanted toward Phillip/Harley.. which surprised her as well. When the Lorelei story came up, it actually made all of her out there/out of character behavior Beth displayed from 1997/1998 through the early/mid 00s make sense.  I liked that the final months of the show, Beth became more like Beth of old so at least the show ended on a positive for her character.
