December 9, 200916 yr Member Moonves has every right to be arrogant. He brought CBS up from the gutter after they lost the NFL to Fox in the early 90's. A move which CBS still hasn't fully recovered. Yeah, it sucks ATWT was canceled, but Moonves is a network scheduling genius. ITA. Moonvres is a talented executive. He has done better by CBS than Zucker has with NBC.
December 9, 200916 yr Member P&G or Telenext was a CBS client that produced shows for CBS. I think that's what he's referring to. He's probably right, network owned shows, daytime or nighttime, will last longer because there's no middle man to pay. Well then his statement should make Y&R and B&B nervous, correct? Because, despite their relative (key word: relative) success, he made it pretty clear in his statement how he feels about "client-owned" material, so...
December 9, 200916 yr Member Well then his statement should make Y&R and B&B nervous, correct? Because, despite their relative (key word: relative) success, he made it pretty clear in his statement how he feels about "client-owned" material, so... Yes. It just adds to the pressure. He has only two left to cancel so... One of those is next. On CBS, of course. Edited December 9, 200916 yr by Sylph
December 9, 200916 yr Member Moonves might be a genius but he could afford to show some class. Not a damn thing amusing about people losing jobs in this economy no matter how you feel about the soap genre. Besides the lucky few, many of these people will have a very hard time getting new work.

Agreed. The truth hurts, but please show some compassion.

I don't know if he doesn't care about the people losing their jobs and what-not, but it upsets me that he's acting like canceling ATWT is like canceling a low-rated sitcom that was given a season more than it deserved just to see if its numbers would improve. If this was CSI limping pass the finish line, he'd have more to say about it.
December 9, 200916 yr Member From Variety: CBS was likely emboldened to yank "ATWT" after its post- "Guiding Light" success with "Let's Make a Deal." That game show costs a fraction of what it took to produce "GL," and has bumped the time slot's ratings by 5%. Another I told you so. All that bitching about Let's Make a Deal and it is doing just fine in the ratings. Edited December 9, 200916 yr by Ann_SS
December 9, 200916 yr Member Is LMAD even doing that well, or is that all spin? Heck it didn't even take over the GL timeslot here, Dr. Phil did

Sure he could be more tactful, but Moonvres isn't worrying about the feelings of a couple million fans of a soap money pit.

December 9, 200916 yr Member I bet he is tired of hearing from whiny bitchy irrational soap fans. I can only imagine that he shakes his head in disbelief when he gets yet another batch of mail from a rabid fanbase demanding that their couple be put back together or their favorite character not be fired. Moonvres must be counting down the days until he can get rid of soap fans and their obsessiveness for good. Goodness know I would feel that way. This might be the best post I've read in a long time. I'm over through my five stages of grief, btw...
December 9, 200916 yr Member Did this get posted yet about that CNBC reporter? http://gawker.com/5421720/classy-les-moonves-just-told-a-cnbc-reporter-hes-firing-his-mother+in+law-on-live-tv In an interview Les Moonves did today with CNBC's David Faber, the CBS honcho off-handedly described the network's decision to cancel 54-year-old soap As the World Turns. Wonder if he knows Faber's mother-in-law has worked on the show for four decades? Awkward! *Snip* At the end of the (boring) interview about ad spending and stupid business things, Faber couldn't help but ask about the show getting dropped (do you think he could go home tonight if he didn't?). Moonves said, "The days of the soap opera have changed very much. Guiding Light left earlier this year and As the World Turns will leave later next year. They've had long and distinguished runs and their days are over." Burn! The saddest thing is, he says it with a bit of a smirk.
December 9, 200916 yr Member What was the issue with that Moonves interview. It actually overall sounding pretty encouraging. He didn't seem flippant about ATWT he referred to both ATWT and GL as having long distinquished years and the era is pretty much over. As sad as cancellation is, he is correct for the most part. I didn't get a sense he was smirking or joking about it. The whole interview was pretty upbeat and his tone was pretty consistant throughout the interview. I suppose if it was Bloom or Frons saying those things I might be hopping mad who knows.
December 9, 200916 yr Member I'm lost for words. I knew ATWT would be cancelled soon but thought it might have a year. It was mostly wishful thinking. The World will stop turning/spinning. No more Kim, Bob, Nancy, Tom, Margo, Holden. Lisa, Emma or Lily just to mention a few. No more La Hubbard gracing my screen. NO more Eileen Fulton....sigh...No more CZP as Barbara...Babs.....No more James returning from the dead. So much history tossed down the drain by Ghris Goutman....f u c k i n g l o s e r!! I hope his Pissanate keeps him company in the unempoyment line where they should both be. Thanks(to the show) for the 30 plus memories of ATWT you have given me. I will be a sad day in Sept 2010. It is already is a sad and somber day. And excuse me...but why is a certain poster posting on this thread? Someone who never watched the show or even [!@#$%^&*] commented about the show!! Seriously...WTF?? Sigh...no more soaps left for me to watch...my days are numbered at SON in September....it was a fun ride. My show ...my ATWT will never be forgotten.
