Online fans who are less than .00001 percent of the audience may be attached to couple may stop watching if they leave or breakup. However, most people who watch are offline. They watch and stop watching for a variety of reasons. I bet they don't bat an eyelid when any of these popular couples leave. We'll know for sure in a few months when Zach and Kendall and Victor and Nikki are gone.

No but I don't believe it will have that great an impact and I don't believe it will on Y&R with Victor leaving either. I don't for one second believe the general online fan is representative of the norm. There is such a group mentality. You have a few vocal posters and the majority seem to just follow them and ape their opinions. I don't even believe the online audience is as big as some thing because it's just the same posters for the most part posting on different message boards.

Offliners just go with the flow. I don't buy that they are as obsessed or invested as onliners. I certainly wasn't when I was offline.

And I do think AMC as overestimated Zach and Kendall. Patrick and Robin on GH supposedly their most popular couple has not done a thing for GH ratingswise in fact their PPD story actually occured during a time that ratings dropped.

If anyone would impact ratings I think it would be Victor on Y&R not even Victor and Nikki. He's an icon on that show and if anything they might lose some older viewers. But these shows don't care about the old farts anyway right?

i skip most fridays, and so do a lot of my family friends. and this is why...

mondays are better. lol. i am bust on fridays and i find that mondays usually recaps everything i need from fridays show. fridays shows dont usually deliver anyhing. it will end with say, Nicole on days being busted. But on monday ill get that same scene in the first part and the fallout. if i have to pick a day to miss it will always be friday.

IA. Most people I know offline don't get caught up in couples or characters.

There is no comparison between Zach and Kendall and Robin and Patrick. GH revolves around the mob, not Robin and Patrick. Even when they have a hot story, they barely get any airtime so there is no way that they can impact the ratings either way. Besides I don't believe that couples or characters can impact the ratings in any meaningful way, period.

Awesome! Most soaps either the same or better in total viewers year to year. More weeks like this please. The daytime soap industry isn't going down without a fight!

I think it's because the daily ratings we see are Live+Same Day. On Friday, people have the weekend to watch if they taped an episode, so they don't watch the episode on the same day.

I rarely post here but I find your words offensive. Are you Fronsie? I’m not an ape that can be trained by other fans or posters on line. I am able to form my own opinion.

I stopped watching soaps when AW got canceled. I had my faves yet could still enjoy the entire show. A few years later my daughter was watching AMC, and I heard TK’s voice and then saw Zach and Kendall together. They had me watching a soap again. I already knew AMC and it’s characters because I used to watch AMC off and on. I probably knew AMC better than Day’s since I can remember watching a teenage Erica. When I came back, I actually enjoyed watching the entire show. Not now though, most of the writing is nothing but crap. I have never seen a show written like this one.

When TK and AM leave, I leave. I’m thankful they are leaving so I don’t have to watch this crap. It’s my choice. I realize it won’t change the ratings when I and others stop watching because they leave. I simply won‘t and don’t care. As long as the hack is writing this show, I will not watch it again. I may tune in to see a fave leave though around Easter.

    • Really an excellent point. I'm worried about Derek but he's not working. The Duprees being too good somehow ... well, if they say it instead of be it, okay yes, I would worry but as long as they keep on being good, geeze, that's something to celebrate, not worry!!!  Party on?!
    • I blame Mitch.

    • I agree. For now. I am sure in a year's time...a new family (or old) will start to appear on the show.
    • There's some irony in Philip being forgiven, because it forces everyone to admit that Victor was wrong to change his will.  Everyone, eventually including Xander, (I presume), seems to think it was wrong for Victor to divide his estate in Xander's favor.  I appreciated Stephanie forgiving Philip, because she's got no skin in that game.  But, Belle's line about Philip missing Xander because he misses Bo did not ring true.  I think Philip would be sad if Bo dies, but I think he's more concerned currently about Xander. I am enjoying this EJ mystery so much that I am hereby taking a vow not to read spoilers.  I am also vowing — for the last time — to stop harping on this, but: the concept of a “sepsis treatment” remains absurd. Hospitals prevent sepsis through vigilant infection control; once sepsis sets in, it causes multiple organ failures. Treatment involves supporting each failing organ individually. The notion that a single medication could magically reverse organ failure is medically laughable. However, I like the contrast of Kim going through cancer, which is incurable in their universe.  Kayla's comment on the health of both of her siblings was both heartbreaking and an interesting twist.  MBE is also totally underrated.  She is carrying the weight of so many stories.   And, I like the use of Kayla as an audience surrogate.  She's arguably the most "real" person in Salem. Kayla isn't psychic, she wasn't SORASed, she's not a billionaire, and she doesn't have a bionic eye.  So, I enjoy that we get her perspective of the nuttiness that surrounds her. However, I don't get what gives her the authority to turn down EJ's offer.  I understand that they need a hospital figurehead to show us scenes of the competition to buy the hospital.  But, unless the entire administration has been let go, the Chief of Staff wouldn't make those choices.
    • But why worry about something that might not happen? Right now, most things revolve around the Duprees. We have no idea if or how long that will continue. For now, it's working.
    • The Duprees not having any staff is a bugbear for me. They've included the background staff at the Country Club but no one at the Dupree home. Even just an extra bringing in a tray of food/drinks or responding to a request from Anita would suffice.
    • Shut up, Dante and Lois.  I actually don't mind this particular soap trope, but in the context of this storyline, it just feels forced and unnecessary. If anything, this Dante/Gio tension needed to begin months ago. Plus, this storyline, in general, isn't doing Lois any favors either.  Emma comforting Gio was really sweet though. It's definitely time for the two of them to have their first kiss. And, Joss playing Secret Agent Barbie will just never work.
    • Note to makeup - Smitty’s eyebrows, bad clamshell look.
