Seeing this latest trend in best/worst threads, I thought to start my own.

Who are some of your favourite daytime divas, those bigger-than-life, magnetic, super stylish femmes fatales of daytime? It can be anyone from a long-forgotten guest star in the '70s to the main female protagonist on the show. Villainess, fairy godmother, the characters ethics and morality are not the point.

And not to forget: is there a particularly soapy name of a female character you like? Like e.g. Dominique Deveraux (not daytime, but hey), Angelique DuVal, Helena Cassadine, those French/Italian/German/Greek sounding names, that sort of thing.

:)

P. S. If a mod could change the b in the title to a capital, I'd be grateful.

Thank you, DaytimeFan, and I did mean it when you go back home again. In a year or so or whatever. You'll be reminded. :P

Lovely home, but the surrounding countryside surprises me, I didn't realize the south of France was so dry. She seems to have fungus issues on her lawn, but I LOVE the pool. That curved hedge over by what appears to be the guest house has GOT to go. the back of the house is in desperate need of some foundation plantings, but the shutters seem to go all the way to the ground, I've never seen anyhting quite like that before. the Belgrave home is GORGEOUS. Opulent is right, it just screams out her name to look at that room. It's far too glamorous for my personality, but I bet she loves it and it fits her like a glove. The fresh flowers really make the room, especially that dash of hot pink give it the brightness and that extra bit of elegance. I'm a FIRM believer in the use of fresh flowers, which reminds me.. I need to go make MYSELF an arrangement for my great room.

Never seen the shutters like that? And didn't know that the south of France was dry? Maquis shrublands and garrigues?

I love the roof and the shutters.

The pool is horrendous and the façade colour too.

It needs a landscape architect to improve on the surroundings.

And by the way... I have a gorgeous photo of Maria Arena's house... ... ... But I can't share.

No, I didn't realize it was quite that dry... but considering the amount of wine they produce... it should have dawned on me. I wonder why these dry climates like that and southern california are so popular with the rich and famous? Theyr'e murder on your skin, and frankly... theyr'e ugly as hell. Once you get past the irrigated lawn area of your home, it just looks like someone dropped a nuclear warhead on the countryside. Physchologically, I couldn't deal with that.. I must have GREEN. I know winter isn't green, but somehow, since I know it's temporary, I can deal (but you wouldn't catch me living in Minneapolis or someplace where winter lasts a LONG time). And no.. I've never seen shutters that extend downward past the bottom of the windows. I don't think I care for them. It makes it look strange to have shrubbery under the window in that situation, and her windows need something underneath to tie the house into the surrounding landscape. Her landscape could use some more color, though. In a dry climate, roses would make an excellent addition.

That was my reaction the first time I saw it. And second and third. It doesn't really seem much like Dynasty either.

Wow.

You've never seen that before? fabulous, ain't it?? Wasn't she up in Candada for this eppy with those oils shale prospectors?

In the picture, I totally see what you see. In the magazine, when you see the scale of the room and the natural light that floods the place, the carpet and wallpaper works, as do the overflow of pictures on the walls. That's the one thing that is very clear from JC's Knightsbridge flat, it's FILLED with pictures, etchings of things, 18th century paintings and probably hundreds of silver framed pictures of JC and family. The office is delicious, shades of grey and green with a 70s portrait of Joan and Jackie. Her bedroom is peach and very Marie Antoinette. The kitchen is light and sort of French style.

And what you thought was the foyer is actually the dining room, it has its own fireplace, as do many of the rooms in Joanie's abode.

The flat is unique because it stretches across 3 townhouses horizontally on one level. It's how many very upscale flats are in that area.

I am literally gleeful with this layout. It's everything I imagined for Joan and more!

Awesome, thanks for the additional info and pics, you too Sylph. I want her real estate, shoot, I want her life (no psycho). ^_^ That's intereting about the flat spanning three townhouses, I imagined it was like Joan Rivers' penthouse which was once the two-story ballroom of an Upper East Side mansion:

http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2009/05/joan-rivers-puts-big-number-on-her.html

I got a glimpse of JC's upcoming guest spot. She's playing David Spade's mom, wearing her Dynasty power white. ;)

The shutters are a MUST in the South of France. For one thing, when the weather gets stormy, it shields the windows. Another thing is that it allows Joan to literally lock her house up when she leaves in the autumn.

The colour of the house is rather different, I think the photo I've posted is a number of years old. In the HELLO! spread the house is a rich peach on the facade and a robin's egg blue on the shutters, the garden had been redone with a number of tropical coloured plants and flowers and the pool had a new tiled deck.

Oh, I love the shutters and I know their purpose, haven't you read, DaytimeFan? It's alphanguy who is surprised that they touch the ground. smile.gif

Oh yes, I knew you understood their purpose, it's just that your post included the shutters, as well as the pool, landscaping and the facade colour.

Shutters, pool, who cares? She has a house in the South of France. Unless that house suffers an infestation of abnormally large rats, I am all over it. What i would give to have a place down there!

It must be a European thing, because we certainly have shutters around here, but I have yet to see them extend all the way down, around here they always stop at the bottom of the window. I'm glad to hear she's redone some of the landscape, it certainly needed it. More color would certainly be a big plus.

Alphan, you are hysterical. As usual! laugh.gif I mean, why the rich chose Côte d'Azur & similar places as their favourite ones? And then you go on to say that the main reason you don't get it is the lack of vegetation or whatever. Why don't you go and live in the Democratic Republic of Congo or the Amazonian forests?! :P Or Indonesia?

You obviously haven't heard that the Mediterranean people are famous for their long lifespan and very good eating habits (the Mediterranean diet).

Oh yes, I knew you understood their purpose, it's just that your post included the shutters, as well as the pool, landscaping and the facade colour.

Carla Bruni's family castle in Cap Nègre beats Joan's house, though. :P
