LML or MAB

Whatever. LML never killed off a younger next generation character, and she didn't do too many meaningless deaths. Even John Abbot's death had longterm effects on her show. It might have been a stupid move, but she always followed though on the aftermath.

Nothing MAB is doing gives me hope that things are about to change, but I know you've admitted to being biased when Y&R is concerned. Take a look at the spoilers to come - it's more shock and awe with little emotional resonance.

It's easy to be blinded when someone is killed off and there's a few emotion scenes. That's to be expected, even though Colleen's death is leaving me cold.

However, Y&R is not about family dynamics, love, or emotional resonance otherwise. It always takes death under MAB and company to propel story and give us only one week of of some emotional scenes.

MAb and company are writing some anti-soap.

I'd mostly agree with you, these last few months.

I also give zero weight to Colleen's death, because I am not feeling it, and because I agree it is shock and awe.

The scenes that have been affecting me this week involve Murphy, Jill-Kay, Adam-Ashley, Adam-Nick, Gloria and the Scoobies (yes, I thought they were a fun 2-day diversion), etc. Most of these were meant to be B, C, and D fillers. Instead, for me, they delivered more than that.

That gives me hope that the actors are compensating for some of the problems in the long-term thrusts, and also that the BDW/SWs are doing their best to back-fill in some meaningful emotion even when the long-term story is shock and awe.

You'll not get a disagreement from me on your major points! Instead, I'll just say that they have been able to shine some very nice moments this week DESPITE your major points.

At least LML and MAB have not made drastic cast changes, unlike other soaps that introduce a new family or put the spotlight on new characters not connected to the core.

We have had Heather,Adam,Mac,Billy,Olivia,Chloe,Nina,Pattyetc return

Although the writing has been inconsistent,at least the characters are still there and can be salvaged.

I don't know if Adam or Patty can be salvaged. Heather and Olivia are barely around. Making Chloe Esther's daughter was a good way to give her some ties to the canvas, but the relationship has not really been explored and Chloe is still basically a character with few ties to anyone but Billy. Mackenzie is treated as a complete non-entity, she has no purpose in life other than being Mac's girlfriend.

Is this someone you should be dealing with? I got the drama on lock. Leave it to me. You are my sister. You have loved & protected me every moment I've been in this world. It's my turn to stand up for you.

    • I just watched it, it was decent, looking forward to Martin's secret. Glad to get info on why the children were aged up!
    • !!! I felt the same. Martin secret has always been my favorite storyline.  I happen to Andre's wardrobe but it ages him. They have a grandpa vibe.

, Facts! I would like to see something like that in Daytime. Both of y'all can back up off my husband! Tomas couldn't shine his shoes.
    • Brandy was an odd mish-mash of a character. A radical during her college days, then a journalist/romance writer, I believe? But not so much of a radical that she had a problem chasing millionaire Alan, LOL. The actress, JoBeth Williams, went on to have a pretty good movie and prime time career.

Thought I’d share this video featuring Cathy Carricaburu, now Foxhoven, who played Nancy Becker from 1976-1978.

She talks a little about her acting career starting around the 6 minute mark and briefly mentions Y&R. I’d be interesting to see some of her work on Y&R since it seems to be her most notable role.
    • I believe Henry Slesar intended that the Paige/Nola plot would play out over three to six months and Paige would be the new younger ingenue; but a few things happened. Sharon Gabet didn't renew her contract and the audience didn't like the Paige/Brian romance as it flirted with incest. Kim Hunter revealed in an interview that she as slated for 3 months but Henry asked her to stay on for an additional period. I watched Edge during this period when it originally aired and Margaret Colin was not great in the role. She seemed very green among the vets as was the dude playing Brian. He was poorly cast which was unusual for Edge.  I think Henry started to get pressure from ABC and P&G to jazz up the show given what was exploding under Monty on GH at the time. I loved Kim as Nola and all the stories it generated for others. Miles and Deborah in particular. But the next who dunnit plot in this period was not one of Henry's best (at least for me the culprit and explanation were lame for Henry).
    • Bill and the performer are the strongest male character and actor on this show.  Yeah, how I see it too. you pair your best young female with one of the weakest screams sabotage to me.  I like this idea, it doesn't make things too predictable. I would buy that!
