In the Locher Room when they mentioned him Krista Ferrell (who had no f*cks to give, called Kimmer out for being mean to her at first) goes..."Oh..Larkin Malloy," and made a face and Zimmer laughed apprently in agreement that he could be a pain. This was in response to Terrell whatshiface saying that when he came on Malloy came up to him and said, "Don't even THINK about pissing on my leg as I am the leading man,"  or something.

Kyle was just a skeevy character, the bastard kid of a prostitute who black mailed Roxie into sleeping with him and led his niece on before she kneshe was his niece. Malloy always seemed unhappy and his stylized acting didnt really work on GL. But lots of peole think he and Kimmer had chemistry.

My main knowledge of him is as Travis Montgomery on AMC. Plus I am aware that both he & Lisa Brown functioned as acting coaches on some shows. Does anyone know which shows that was? Not that it matters but I don't really remember Kyle on GL

Other than ones already mentioned, the big one that stands out to me is Geraldine Court as Jennifer. Maybe "floundered" in the role is an overstatement, but the show never seemed to know what they wanted to do with her. She never seems close to either of her daughters, the relationship with Mike went nowhere, and marrying Mark seemed like a hail mary effort to make her relevant. And then she just disappears before Mark dies.

I think Douglas Marland had intended for Jennifer to become Mike's wife, but when Don Stewart resisted, that left her (and Geraldine Court) adrift.

Same went, I would say, for Tina Sloan, who didn't have much to do as Lillian after the initial storyline with Judi Evans/Beth and James Rebhorn/Bradley ended and Stewart's departure put the kibosh on the Mike/Alexandra/Lillian triangle, until her breast cancer story and the affair with Ed.

Lisa was an acting coach on GL, even after she left the for the last time as Nola. I remember Tammy Blanchard speaking about Lisa being her acting coach while on GL

Thanks for that. There are so many Locher room interviews to get through.  So it was a bit of a Clint Ritchie type situation (another person Zimmer defended). Am I mistaken or wasn't Malloy involved in some sort of drunken behavior at an event? I may be misremembering but I recall some scandal a la Ritchie. I don't want to speak out of turn if it was not Malloy or if I have the details wrong.

I said it before, but I have never seen an actress (Crampton) so clueless about her character in all my life. She didn't seem to know anything about what she was doing. It's one thing to be confused about a storyline but Crampton just seemed completely out of it. So bizarre. Crampton is a good actress, so I have to blame the people at GL and the execs.

Besides Walker and Crampton, have there been other examples  of actors/actresses on GL who just floundered in a role and could not make it work?

Rebecca Staab as Jessie, Beth's cousin.

As everyone is aware, Beth's cousin was supposed to be named India Raines, or something along those lines.  She was supposed to be a mischievous trashy cousin of Beth's that would come in and make life difficult for her cousin and aunt.  When the role was originally being cast in 1984, both Mary Kay Adams and Kristi Farrell read for the part.   The casting people liked both actresses and decided to create two characters for both actresses.  Adams got the mischievous traits in a more posh/upper crust form while Farrell got the fun traits in a more trashy form.

By the time that Long did introduce Beth's cousin.. the character had no interesting traits because those traits were given to India and Roxy and she was introduced a few weeks before Long left the show.

Also, Staab was not able to make the character interesting and the writing didn't help either.   The initial episodes that introduced Jessie and her mother Calla had a Toddler and Tiara type of set up where Calla seemed to have pushed her daughter into that world (even hinting at Calla pushing Jessie into unsavory things in order to win and be successful).   That aspect seemed to have been dropped once Long left the show and Jessie was subjected to a Simon/Jessie/India triangle that went nowhere.

I'm so shocked by Rebecca Staab and Lisby Larsen mentions because I've seen them in other things and they were wonderful. I've been so impressed by Larsen in the Texas clips I've seen. Staab was excellent on Port Charles. I never saw the Jessie/Simon/Calla storyline so it's disappointing it did not go well as I like all three performers (have a soft spot for Thompson as a Hairspray fan). Thank you @Soaplovers and @DRW50

I also loved Staab on PC & more recently in this movie about a girls volleyball team.

I can't get over how much she looks like Bridget, at least the eyes.  I can also see Julia Barr in this picture (the hair for sure).

I agree. As much as I loathe SORAS, Melissa Hayden may as well have been brought on as Nola's daughter Stacy instead of her niece.

I have a comment and a question :).

First, I love reading all of the comments on this board. Guiding Light was the first soap that I watched and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Reading some of the comments on this board about particular storylines or characters really brings back some great memories.

As for my question, there has been some mentions here and there about Guiding Light Fan Fiction. Does anyone have links they can share where I might be able to find that.

Thank you.

Welcome and thanks for the comment!  I love that too, when you read about storylines and characters from the past and it brings up great memories :)

I don't have a link to fan fiction, but I'm sure someone does.
