@DeeVee the HWs at the time were Mary Ryan Munisteri and Ellen Barnett. Munisteri was HW for Ryan's Hope from 1983-84, but was only at GL from May-October '86. Alan returned during the Summer, but that could've been set in motion by Jeff Ryder.

@alwaysAMC I always liked this clip of India ogling a shirtless Phillip set to Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It?"

Phillip and India

Thank you for sharing!!! First of all, after seeing these Phillip/India courtship videos, I'm so curious to see how they interact in 1998/1999 when they see each other again after all this time!

Grant A has never really been my type physically (first seeing him on AMC and now GL), but I do like his charisma and personality. I also find the actress playing India to be a little bland in sexuality. So for me, this couple and India herself aren't really doing it for me right now, but I'm still curious to see what happens.

So in terms of timeline, was this Phillip/India courtship during Grant's first run as Phillip? I always remember the infamous Reva/Phillip Proud Mary scene, which was in 1985 when Bolger took over as Phillip (who btw is so fun and sexy in that episode). India is there with Alex and Vanessa, and it seems like she already knows Phillip, so I'm guessing that's after she first met Grant's Phillip? I'm curious though, did Phillip/India ever have a long-term relationship? She mentioned she was a virgin, so did Phillip take her virginity or did someone else?

Thanks again for sharing :)

Most of the relationship was with John Bolger. Here's a heart-to-heart with Grant's Philip (the volume is low).

Guiding Light - Phillip and India - Sept./Oct. 1984

Here are their last scenes in his first run.

GL India & Phillip Christmas 1984

Grant has never really been my type either. Bolger is a little goofy but I would be more drawn to his Philip if I had to choose.

There's a sexy office scene with India and his Philip around 3 minutes into this. (you also get a glimpse of the infamous fur coat scene with Vanessa and Ross)

1992 GL 40th Anniversary Prime Time Special Part 1

Philip never really loved or even liked India, he was still in love with Beth, but she loved him, even if she tried to put up a strong front.

Here's a clip from her 1990 return where she says as much.

GUIDING LIGHT-- Hide and Seek, part 6

India is an odd character as on paper she doesn't really seem that fantastic, but Mary Kay Adams is such a unique, compelling presence, wry, warm, campy, what have you. It's one of the reasons she lasted as long as she did in her first run (and also caused ATWT problems as she was more popular with viewers than the show had likely anticipated as she was only cast to be killed off). I am not sure what happens in this 98-99 run, what plans they had and why it didn't work out (my guess is Rauch or someone at P&G or CBS decided she wasn't hot enough, I don't know), but I did like having her back again.

I don't really remember if she has much involvement with Philip in this stint.

When India returned, it would've been a good opportunity to bring back Dinah's childhood BFF Dorie to fill the void of Marcus. But we know at that point Dinah only existed to prop up Cassie, with only guilty Van being in her corner- especially with what's coming up ahead.

@alwaysAMC speaking of John Bolger's Phillip-- I was always fo d of this end credits sequence of hims and Beth. This was a month after Lujack was offed- full cast list included. Also, this alternate arrangement of the theme is so warm and cozy.

BTS of Guiding Light - (Christmas 1988)

A number of backstage pieces uploaded on that channel tonight.

@P.J. This one starts with a few minutes of Jerry doing a reading.

Well, it was lovely to hear Jerry, if not exactly see him.

Damn, I wish that episode with Ross/Vanessa would turn up online.

When did they stop doing the cast/crew singing the last show before Christmas? Does anyone know?

India and Phillip were married for a couple of years. She blackmailed him into marrying her. He caused an accident that blinded Beth and she had proof.

No, she wasn't a virgin. For some reason she lied about that. They didn't sleep together for a long time, but at some point during Bolger's stint, Phillip tried to make the marriage work.

India was put in charge of the Spaulding Foundation. She committed some kind of fraud. She went back to her father in Andora and met Alan, who was hiding out there before his 1986 return to the show. She got involved with Alan's art stealing scheme.

They seemed to toy with the idea of them together romantically. It never happened, which it too bad, because MKA and Bernau had fantastic chemistry. During that period, their scenes were one of the few things I genuinely enjoyed watching.

Oh that is cozy, thanks for sharing! Interesting that Jay Hammer went by Charles Jay Hammer back then, I wonder why he dropped the Charles later.

Oh wow, thank you! I didn't realize they were married! Now I'm really interested in seeing their 'reunion' now that India is back. Phillip wasn't at Thanksgiving dinner because he was on their honeymoon, so they haven't run into each other just yet.

I just watched the period where Roger embezzled from the foundation with AM as the patsy and it’s a miracle the IRS let them have a foundation at Spaulding it seems.

India's 1990 stint was far more successful than her 1998-1999 stint because she was used more effectively in that 1990 visit with her sparring with step mother dearest Alex, having a position at Spaulding, and I think even had a few toe to toe scenes with Roger as well. Her Christmas 1990 good bye to Phillip/Beth was so in keeping with their history with Beth hugging India and then India saying that's why she has to leave in order to avoid that becoming a regular thing.

Her 1998 to 1999 stint seemed tacked on with her primarily only interacting with Ross, Blake, and Ben with occasional interactions with Beth and Alex. She and Ron Raines had a nice rapport and the show did seem to be setting up the two possibly teaming up and/or becoming involved before she stopped appearing on the show.

Her 2002 stint was short, but very sweet.

Damn. If she made Raines watchable they should have done whatever they could to keep her.

Never understood why they didn't run with an Alan/India pairing. Not necessarily a big love story, but scheming lovers could have been fun to watch.
