My understanding is that it's the 11th. The version (or there was a version with the commercials) with commercials references the Democratic convention, which was the week of the 11th.

Thanks!

I can't fault Marj for going where a contract was going to be offered. Soaps save money keeping performers recurring, but they also risk losing them if said performers get another job that offers a contract.

Neither can I. It's a shame as her Alexandra was getting better treatment than she'd had in most of her first run, but a job is a job. And she got years of steady work from AMC, which was her best role aside from Myrna. Then luckily for her she was able to get back onto GL not too long after AMC - the writing was not good but at least she got some money for the rest of the decade (even if she wasn't on contract in the last years).

By the way, that's a YouTube account.

They just uploaded some episodes from August 1979. Not sure yet if they're some that have already been uploaded to YT. That is the period when Alan and Hope are stranded on the island, Jackie has a miscarriage, and Rita is upset that she isn't having orgasms during sex with Ed.

Thank you. They are on Youtube, but these may be a little longer...and one of them (the 24th) is harder to find, as it's no longer available on the account that originally uploaded it and before now just existed on a zombie/dupe channel.

Ok, just to clarify, the version with the commercial references the Republican convention starting the next week, July 14-17.

It's really odd watching 79 episodes, and Ross schmoozing the eternally soft-spoken and naive Evie. She may have been the only completely nice girl he ever pursued.

I started watching GL in high school sometime spring 1995 and got into it because of Alan Michael and Lucy, but picked a good spot as it was in their sexual tension phase right before the rape. I rewatched the LAM clips then discovered the vault and started when Rick Hearst took over as AM circa June 1990. It was also the same week Reva drove off the bridge.

I’m up June 1991 and it’s pretty jarring how different Alex/AM are viewed by the rest of Springfield. (I never realized just how much of a retcon it would’ve been for either of them to be A Spaulding during that nonsense-Alan was sending Phillip taunting messages from prison back then even!)

I have many thoughts but one unsurprising one is I even more appreciate Rick Hearst. 1990/1991 AM is more boyish and naive but still feels like the same person as he does when he ascends to power.

I know this is blasphemy to some, but story wise I think the show could’ve benefitted from AM/Blake being a couple that can’t stay out of each other’s orbit. Blake getting pregnant out of the one night mistake with AM would’ve made Alan’s return and rivalry with Roger get so much more interesting with a grandchild in the mix. (Ross actually drives me insane starting with him getting seduced by Blake as he’s in a constant loop of a woman manipulating him and him falling for it every time between Blake/Dinah/Amanda.)

OMG - someone who has a GL journey that starts in the same timeframe :) I also really loved A-M and Lucy's growing attraction and ultimate relationship.

Did you stay with it yearly after that or did you stop at some point?

I will someday soon go back and watch the early 90s leading up to 1995 :)

I went up to mid-1997 but since I’d watched up to 2005 or so in first run decided to go backwards at that point. I was curious to fill in some gaps which has been really interesting. It’s like watching a prequel. I was completely unfamiliar with Harley/Phillip pre-1996 and just heard snatches on the Roger/Alex backstory through exposition. I’m up to August 1991 now.

I’m very much enjoying the no Alan of it all.

Welcome to the board.

I agree about Blake/Alan-Michael. I know Blake used Alan-Michael, but I thought they had him move on from her too quickly and he spent too long mooning over Eleni. I thought JFP did a bad job with Alan-Michael. She kept him in petulant and scheming mode for years and only near the end of her run did he mature.

Very nice! I bet, I love watching prequels to see what happens to get the characters to where they are today, or later in life, and who they end up being through their experiences and relationships.

Curious - what were your favorite stories and characters throughout the 90s/00s when you watched?

And welcome to the board :)

I always viewed two major events that changed Alan Michael into the scheming and torture individual that we saw in 1992 to 1996.

1) The kidnapping and torture he endured when he was kidnapped on his honeymoon with Blake. Yes, this was introduced due to a recast needing to be done, but I remember Alan Michael being more intense in the weeks/months after that ordeal than he was before that.

2) Finding out that not only did Blake cheat on him, but that she lied about being pregnant with his child. So he naturally divorced her and left Blake with a nice settlement.

For awhile, Alan Michael/Blake did hook up while working toegether in 1991/1992... but I also remember him being tested with Eleni. In fact, Blake ended up being the one responsible for Eleni/Alan Michael's green card marriage and once Holly spilled the beans on that.. Blake's sights turned from Alan Michael over to seeking revenge against Holly by seducing Ross.

And once he saw that Eleni was truly interested in Frank, his scheming Spaulding side kicked in and he became less of a nice guy and more like a Spaulding.

I always loved Alan-Michael. Yes there were times when he was a royal PITA, but on the Spaulding scale, he was harmless. More of a scamp than a power mad meglomaniac.

I know the basics of what’s coming with Elena etc-I am up to what I think seems to be a big moment which was Roger using him as a patsy in the embezzlement scheme.

Though poor AM might have had one of the worst days of anyone when Blake told him she miscarried and he found out Phillip “died” within hours of each other. Of course neither thing was true but ouch.
