This is not just a feeling, this is a fact!

It was as if many of the women writers on daytime soaps felt they had something to prove and as a result, had to be harder-charging, coarser and more brutal in their characterization and that would somehow prove their "mettle" by being especially cutting in their writing of women characters (a warped quest against being accused of being partial maybe?). It's really a shame because a writer who is a man feels perfectly entitled to write a man who is sensitive with many sides to his personality with many twists and turns in how he is written, meanwhile so many of the women characters will absolutely be savaged, under the pen of writers who are both men and women. Such a shame.

Lordy. It was all so degrading.

Weston's stint was such a turn off. It was so so so bad.

You're absolutely right - it is a fact. And it really is a shame.

Very blessed. I'm so happy I was able to see a lot of it, thanks to YouTube. Sadly a lot of it seems to be gone now.

Went back to see the beginning of the Locher Room livestream with Maureen Garrett, Rick Hearst and Amelia Marshall and that part where they all talk about the forest fires in California and wonder what will happen next

. Just a few hours later.

I am glad that Amelia got to talk about working with Vince Williams and how special the Gilly/Hamp wedding. I wish Alan hadn't interrupted.

Interesting to hear about the resistance to the Jessica and Duncan relationship on ATWT. It makes me wonder Marland's other story featuring a Black family faced resistance that perhaps Marland couldn't overcome.

Sad to remember how lacking in courage the executives behind these shows could be.

Surprisingly candid, considering how reigned-in most of the discussions had been previously on this particular YouTube channel. I missed a portion of the actual livestream so I went back to watch yesterday when I had time to sit down and watch (rather than while multi-tasking).

    • yes I thought of the Renee party... But this is different because I'm talking specifically about the revealer convincing someone else to throw the party.  And the someone else complies, having no idea what the revealer plans. I'm wondering if Michele Val Jean did a first with BTG in 2025. But the BTG thread is already so busy -- that I thought it important to *NOT* clog it up with discussing this, so I brought the question here instead. That way, if other reveals come up in conversation, it's not a problem on this "general retro soap" thread.
    • Well, good that they showed Vanessa though I wish she was there.   Lol. And here comes Naomi. AND an explanation from Jacob.

She is diabolical! Remember in this scene she offered Martin a brownie which seemed so random? In this episode its revealed that when he was a kid, Ted used to bring him to a restaurant where the waitress would give him brownies....that waitress was Leslie. She was playing games and trying to jog his childhood memory
    • Yay!!!!!! And made it ON TIME, TOO!!!   And this is giving DAYS reveals circa late 90s already.
    • Bish what? I was not expecting that, I was for sure expecting him to go after Nicole (He still can). Looks like Leslie put her out! I love these new developments, Eva Dorian Lording her way into Fairmont Crest. My good sis better trap that doctor.
    • It should be in its synopsis on the DVR description of the show.
    • Well, in a way DAYS "Renee Dumonde DiMera Threw a Party & Invited Everyone & Then Told the Whole Town Off" if you see what I mean. She definitely pretended that she was throwing this shindig for a pleasant reason while she KNEW her real intent wasn't pleasant AT ALL. And, everyone in Salem was targeted by her in this way.  I mean it was supposedly a celebration of her engagement. But, that is not what happened! I think it checks off all your boxes. And, before today I would definitely have called it "singular". There was nothing like it. Now, there's something not only similar but possibly .... more far-reaching? I was just struck by a thought. When MVJ was tasked to write a catfight, she wrote the best catfight that has ever existed. I'm not sure but what if she's done it again?!!
    • What's with this show constantly encouraging women to take back men who aren't worth a damn, then end up doing it lol. This was realistically a 4-episode week considering all the flashbacks to the showstopper can collectively form a 19-minute episode on its own.
    • Another episode uploaded. Love Chandler introduction.

    • Naomi was in Monday's episode, though the client wasn't. Naomi and Jacob were at Uptown with Chelsea, Allison, Derek, and Ashley. And what an amazing episode that was today. Tricia Mann-Grant was absolute perfection as was Ambyr Michelle. I cannot wait to see Dana mix it up with the Duprees, especially Anita.
