Y&R Casting Scandal?

I don't mind how she's written. But I do mind how it's performed. Because CK isn't a strong enough actress to make a bad writing into watchable storyline.

For instant I like the first & third Mac. So people think she's a bore but I like how they made a storyline watchable for me. Even though others did't get Mac.

They won't and IMO they never will

Two of my fav actresses Minae Nojii and Kent Masters King

has been treated horridly on GH. No disrespect to Epip actress

but she serves no more than the Beulah/ mammy type wet nurse voice of reason

GH doesn't portray her like they did on NS

they don't have a hot vixen on this show of color....

this is part of the reason they are dying

they do not reflect the world as it is today

Many African Americans who were huge soap viewers walked a long time ago

they got tired of waiting and there is more (excellent) diverse programming out here

they don't have to put up with it ... like back in the day.

I remember my great Aunt saying how come they don't have Negroes on these

shows and went boinkers when the Grays/Halls came on OLTL

I'll never forget her saying "I'd never thought I'd see it in my lifetime"

Unfortunately she didn't get to see the president we use

to argue that would never happen too

I'm re-reading Ellen Holly's (Carla) book "One Life" because the details are fuzzy and if my memory serves

being on OLTL wasn't all sweetness and light...but I do vaguely remember the "Imitation of Life" "Pinky" rip off storyline with some of the criticism of her skin color as well.

We don't have enough of black people on TV. So it's somethnig exciting just to see black people working.

I watch white shows who didn't have black people on them. Sabrina the Teenage witch, Boy meets world, Dawson Creek I know Joey sister was married to that black guy but he wasn't shown that much. I don't know if that show was called Blossom. But I loved that show. Blossom, her friend Stevie I believe, her father, & brothers. I watch Smallville. I like Three's Company. I try to catch reruns of that show.

I think everyone wants to watch shows with people who they identify with on screen. You may have watched and enjoyed shows with black characters, but that doesn't mean all white people do or that some black people don't watch shows with just white characters. But overall, I think people need something they can relate to. It doesn't have to be race, but it has to be something. I often get sick of not seeing many working class people on soaps because characters like Abby and her million dollar horse are a huge turn off to me. At one point Y&R had a lot more characters that various people can identify with, but that has been changing in recent years and not for the better.

I got this on another board saying that CK denies ever saying that about quitting if VR comes back, it's originally from her(CK)Twitter saying, That it's up to Maria not the cast

and no I'm not following CK on her twiiter( which I'm also a member of ) I saw it on SOC

And I believe CK. I never bought into VR's accusations. All she is doing is justifying to TPTB why they are right not to rehire her. MAB does not want her back. No point VR pointing figures at the cast. If the cast had much power, they would not be taking pay cuts. Even EB according to Daytime Confidential is resisting taking the pay cut they are asking him to take.

    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. They're connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters.
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
    • My hunch is what you've described. JFP is likely back working on transitioning the show to a new studio and embracing new technology for its production model.
    • The woman who was the co-chair of Latinas for Trump is now complaining about his targeting immigrants that she thought were "safe." I also read a puff piece from yet another "insider" journalist who lives to normalize fascists - this one with a tech bro who was venting off the record because he thought voting for Trump was cool and would show up the Democrats and maybe we'd get Greenland, but now he's getting upset.  These people still support Trump, and Republicans, they just want to make sure they get credit for being respectable. And they will get it.
    • I really do wish someone could. Just a few characters in very simple backdrops, with very real problems that are just a little larger than life, like the '50s and '60s. All the characters having a level of dignity or respect. And their inner lives are what dominate the story, even if there are outside forces at play.
    • It's a lesson to never be loyal because once your use is up, you're shown the door. MSW was the only bright spot for CBS for awhile, and once they were back on top... they promptly sabotaged the show as a repayment for all that the show had done for the network.
    • The show made a mistake in not bringing in more McKinnon kids, specifically bringing back Ben. Kathleen was leaving, and while I like you am very fond of Sally Spencer as MJ, that didn't seem to be a common view. They also decimated the character in a truly sick storyline. So that just left Cheryl.
    • Between Gwen and Cat, the show often seems to side with those who cause lots of cruelty to Jack and Jennifer. I am half-surprised that the show hasn't brought Peter Blake back for more of the same.  I don't really know if there is a purpose for them in Salem now, but I do feel a sense of stability and rightness when Melissa Reeves is back in the role of Jennifer and back in the Horton house, in spite of...well, a lot of offcamera stuff we all know perfectly well.
    • I like to call her an FC-reject character
