Promo for Search For Tomorrow and As The World Turns from 1981.

Is that Lawrence Hugo in the SFT clip?   He played Mike Karr on Edge of Night in the 1960s, and was the best Mike Karr, in my opinion.

These episodes were on the now defunct Bob TV channels twice. It's nice to see them back.

Thanks!! The David Gale Fan Archive YT page added a few more 1982-83 episodes as well. 😎😊

Ah - WQTV in Boston. They picked up SFT - and Another World - in the 1980s because the local NBC affiliate only carried Days of Our Lives.

I wonder why they didn't. SFT wasn't a ratings winner - but wasn't AW still doing reasonably well then?

AW was declining, and its audience was older. WBZ - the NBC affiliate at the time - was always preempting network programming for local or syndicated shows, or for local sports (they carried Celtics games back then). At one point, DOOL and Today were the only daytime network shows they carried. When the affiliation moved to WHDH in the mid 90s, NBC insisted as a part of the affiliation agreement that WHDH carry all the NBC daytime shows in pattern. So AW was back in Boston for the last few years of its run.

That lack of affiliate support was a big issue for all of the lower rated shows.

It became a self fulfilling prophecy as affiliates dropped them so they had less coverage and therefore lower numbers which in turn meant other stations would follow suit.

Some episodes from May/June/October of 1983. Stephanie's May/December romance with Steve. Stephanie Mills guest stars. A blind Michael Kendall is introduced. Michelle Phillips appears as Ruby Ashford. Vargas. Henderson mourns Jo.

Thanks for sharing these additional treasures. No offense to Michelle Phillips, but I would have LOVED to see Cher as Ruby!! The entire trajectory of her career might have been different had she accepted SFT.

Likely, I believe she backed out to do Silkwood with Meryl Streep and Kurt Russel, directed by Mike Nichols. That was really the beginning of her 'Hollywood' era and hard work to be taken seriously as an actress. She already had problems being taken seriously for being Cher alone, so doing a stint on a soap wouldn't have helped with the movie career she wanted and would go on to have in the 80's. Her acting career would have probably been very different had she missed out doing that supporting role in Silkwood.

Yes, Silkwood came out in 1983 so that's probably why.
