Members Kubla Khan
I believe MEK grew up in California and his family still lives there. I don't think he'd object to this move, neccessarily. I agree with RSinclair's sentiments -- actors, by nature, are nomadic. The vast majority of the actors on the show started their careers in Los Angeles, and in most cases, made the move to New York specifically for this show in the first place. Members Y&RWorldTurner
I'm more interested in which studio ABC is renting to house AMC in California. If I'm not mistaken, they rent Prospect Studios, where GH is filmed (they owned it up until a few years ago). AMC's current studio and soon to be OLTL's studio space will be the only studio space ABC owns outright for their soaps.
Members marceline
So be it Daddy-oh (as long as we're using quaint anachronisms) but one day we're going to set up a thread and debate this like Obama/McCain, Palin/Biden Buffy/Faith. Members PAsoapfan
I just would care to clarify that I DO support the AMC actors that are faced with tough decisions right now with this move. Yes there are some actors that i wish would Leave AMC for many reasons I hate that many could possibly lose there jobs cause of the move and with the tough economic times it's going to be hard for some to find work. I know I for one wouldn't want to be in there shows at the moment.
Members Scotty
OLTL may no longer have an original cast members left (Erika Slezak being the closest, coming on to the show when it was 3 years old), but it does still have an original character....Viki. Members marceline
I'd be more definite in my opinion if I knew how ABC would handle the moves. Will they buy and handle the sale of the property of select staff? Will they provided "corporate housing" to certain members of the cast and crew? Will there be a housing subsidy? If someone chooses not to go will ABC release them from their contract or hold them in breach? And what if we lose so many they're forced to bring back people they disrespected like Cady McClain and Julia Barr? The next few months are going to be FUN! Members Carolyn1980
I don't think they're gonna pay for anyone's move, lol. I think they'll just let those unwilling/unable to move out of their contracts (assuming the actors would be bound to those contracts even with the show relocating). I bet they're hoping to pare down the cast in a big way, especially among the vets.
Members Kubla Khan
What makes you say that? When TK joined AMC he admitted one of his reservations was about moving back to the East Coast - he said he preferred LA.
Members Carolyn1980
Variety confirms OLTL will also go "HD," as well as pinpointing AMC's new filming location: 'All My Children' heads to L.A. 'One Life To Live' to get NYC studio "All My Children" is switching coasts. ABC on Tuesday confirmed the long-standing rumor that the daytime sudser would move from New York to Los Angeles. At the same time, the net will move "One Life to Live" into "All My Children's" old New York facility. According to the Alphabet, the move will give "Children" a production facility twice the size of its old one. The change, which takes place at the start of 2010, will also allow both "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" to start broadcasting in high-definition. The change also comes with more cost-cutting, however. The sudser world has already been hit hard by network belt-tightening; CBS, for example, is about to end the run of long-standing soap opera "Guiding Light." "The move to Los Angeles enables both 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' to dramatically improve the series production models and achieve significant efficiencies while enhancing each show," said ABC Daytime topper Brian Frons. "We had to examine every option on the table to combat current economic realities, and rising costs of production." Los Angeles City Council president Eric Garcetti said "Children" will be shot in the city's Glassell Park neighborhood. "We have been working hard to bring production back and this is great," Garcetti said via Twitter. "Children" joins "General Hospital" among ABC soaps taped on the West Coast. Members chuck89
I think that ABC/Disney still owns The Prospect Studios.... http://dearoldhollywood.blogspot.com/2009/02/prospect-studios.html http://studioservices.go.com/prospectstudios/history_and_news.html http://studioservices.go.com/prospectstudios/stages.html ABC also has the KABC Broadcast Center in Glendale, which is where season 2 of GH:Night Shift was produced and the Aisha Taylor pilot is being taped. Members Y&RWorldTurner
Thanks! According to what Carolyn just posted, AMC will be filmed in the Glassell Park neighborhood. What studios are around there? Does ABC own anything in that neighborhood?
Members Carolyn1980
I found a craigslist ad through Google that seems to indicate ABC has "ABC Studios" in Glassell Park. Based on the ad, it looks like it's being rented out to a bunch of groups in small sections. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/muc/1303848876.html ETA: Nevermind, lol. It looks like this is ABC Rehearsal Studios which I don't believe is actually connected to the ABC TV Network. So I don't know where in Glassell Park they'll be. Members dragonflies
When Loving became the City, did they move the show to another coast? This is what this is starting to feel like to me, AMC as a whole new show
Members Carolyn1980
Loving didn't move to another coast, but the surviving characters on the show moved from Loving's college town of Corinth to New York City. Lots of new sets were built, but I don't even know if the show moved to a new studio.
