I was quite curious about how condescending and flippant he seemed on Friday's five second shot. I read that as him being over his family's petty squabbles and utterly self-righteous but I don't think that's a bad thing. I suppose it ruins the character to see him be a total a--, but we don't know how he'll act when his son arrives. Seeing him as an adult may bring on the remorse. Understanding the full ramifications of his actions may alter his behavior as well. Whatever happens, we'll have to see.

I just don't think his delivery on Friday should easily be thrown away as bad acting. And I'm not a fan of the guy LOL.

Also he has acted over the last twenty years. Nothing big but he was on "Law & Order."

I sent you a PM, judge for yourself his performance in Monday's episode.

I don't mind if Phillip III's an assh*ole or whatever (though they already ruined that character with this re-write), it's Thom's acting technique that sucks, especially when the three other actors invovled are so good. He plays everything the same way, his face is is the same express throughout the entire episode, and he delivers everything in a Ronn Moss-style delivery. It's coming off as if he thinks he's doing some soap opera spoof for a sketch comedy show. but, judge for yourself, that's just me, and I can't speak for other people.

I agree, we'll just have to see. I know from watching him EVERY DAY back in the day... not just on youtube clips and guest appearances here and there... that he IS good. I still stand by my asessment that love of a character can make one overlook things, and hatred of a character's actions can make fans pick the actor apart. Haiduk is another perfect example. In the wedding dress scene, it was obvious that they were trying to re-create Stern under that veil, and considering it was Stern playing Patty when she married Jack, that made sense. But everyone loved Haiduk and her performances so much that nobody seems to care about the GLARING inconsistency that although Victor gave her plastic surgery to look different, Haiduk has a voice that's about half an octave lower, and is about 6 inches taller than Lilibet Stern.

Mac hasn't been written as a character who just wants to get laid, at least not most versions of the character. This story is supposed to be about love lost and found, soulmates, fate tried to tear them apart then brought them back together, love makes Billy a wonderful person, all the rest. For that to work then I think their first time has to be more than just rutting.

Billy Miller is a good actor, although I think he has a way to go in the emotional moments, and I don't think he has a deep enough connection with most of his co-stars (this was one reason the rivalry with Cane fell flat). It seemed like everyone loved him so much at AMC or heard such good things about him there that there was an automatic assumption he was going to be a huge success on Y&R. Instead Billy is sinking into the same mire he seems to sink into no matter who plays him.

    • In the 1987 episodes, Mary has wonderful conversations with MJ and Cheryl. This is a realistic family with believable dynamics. Mary's ambivalence towards Vince is played nicely. Denise Alexander is so good here. I don't know what happened that the writers or producers just decided to chuck it all away. I don't FF these scenes. The show had a strong family that could have had years of storyline and they did nothing with them. I really don't get it.
    • I can't speak for Sonni, but I thought Annie came off as neurotic from very early on. That's just how Cynthia Watros plays her parts, and the writing went along. I don't think Claire was mentally ill - they claimed she had a brain tumor, didn't they? I am never sure just why they made the effort given that she was leaving anyway.
    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.  I'm not a content expert, but I don't think cis gendered women fantasize about losing control of their mental faculties in response to an orgasm. Similar to Holly's story, it seems repulsive, because I don't believe women fantasize about becoming more vulnerable and appealing to men after they've been assaulted.
    • I just watched some parts of an episode of GL where Roger has just been shot by Holly. Rita then admits to Hillary that Roger raped her. Kasdorf is such a fantastic actress. I wish there were more of her work available.
    • -- Alex Alegria has almost a full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a large tatt on one pec. I see no indication that the show is covering up his ink,
    • Didn't Carrie2 even seduce a minor? Ick. Oh, yeah, and she even tried to seduce Alan, but this was his post-prison era when he was trying to prove to everyone he had changed. It's funny that of all people he didn't go for it. Wait. Josh had an affair with Vanessa? Or she just thought he did? I know people always say "it's just a soap" but the way mental illness is portrayed on soaps (and that goes for pretty much all of them) has always been not great, especially PPD. They practically turned Claire into The Joker. She also was trying to seduce men. (I notice that now Mary Ryan Munisteri is listed as co HW with Ryder in the 1986 episodes, Claire has calmed down a lot. Never thought her GL career was very good but seems like she tried to course correct that a bit).
    • sss Ms. Tunie is a goddess. I feel all the anger, pride, sadness, arrogance, dignity, fear, love, and other emotions in everything she does as Anita.
    • You're right. People like me who stuck with her, did so because of her history. The show just skated her along with no story,  no goal, no aim. Right again! This is who I forgot before. When you describe her, it makes me appreciate her more. Thinking back I loved Mandy.
    • Maybe Guza is becoming Y&R Head writer and Jilly will be named EP! Remember CBS installed Latham as consultant and later Mal Young, both of whom took over the show. Of course, they each got credit during the consulting days.
