now knowing his father left him to suck d-ck in peace

.

I know you qualified the "crassness", but I'm still AGHAST at that interpretation. The problem is, OF COURSE any son or daughter, from any background, is going to view this abandonment in that way.

Drama!

Of course, of course, it goes both ways. But since they're breaking ground with Rafe so far, it would've been nice to have seen them do something as controversial as a gay boy in the military.

I agree, but my only problem with that is unless we see him in Iraq, or unless his army buddies come to town, I'm not sure what the actual story is. He could have been discharged dishonorably for it, and Phillip and Nina could help him fight it. But it would involve a lot of day players, and I'm not sure where you go with the story unless you actually show the army. And no daytime show has the budget to actually show the U.S. Army or Army scenes.

Lemme guess. You think she has a CHANCE at a new romance, eh?

I hope her new romance is to find out where her brains are at. Lily really needs a break from guys.

So, um, why did Philip III decide to show himself now, after wanting everyone to believe he was dead? Wouldn't it have made sense to just let Cane go down, if this was Phillip III's excuse all these years for pulling such a RIDICULOUS and nonsensical stunt?

And funny how he shows up just as Nina is there to call Cane out on the frozen blood sample.

So, he abandoned his family all these years because he wanted to be free to screw other men, but now is the perfect time to return? Eh, OK...

And Nina mentioned calling the cops, it would be totally unbelievable if charges for fraud and identity theft weren't brought AGAINST BOTH Cane and Phillip III. But then again, since you have to excuse all logic for this storyline to make sense, I guess we should forget about that.

Oh, I totally agree it's an awful interpretation. But if done correctly, it's a whole different take on a

homophobia

storyline. Because I understand WHY P4 is homophobic in this case. I see his side, and it's not just about ignorant bigotry.

It's powerful stuff, and I hope that's where it goes. Because it provides a very dramatic jumping off point for father and son to have years of issues.

I can see it both ways. P4

might be slightly homophobic because of the military

, and even more so,

now knowing his father left him to suck d-ck in peace

.

ETA: I'm typing that from P4's perspective. I don't mean to be that crass, but if I were P4, that's sure as hell what I'd be thinking.

Absolutely. But it would be something as well, considering how they've gone over the line with Adam, if there were a triangle with Rafe/P4/P3. If P4 was homophobic because he was deeply disgusted with his real sexuality. If this has been suggested in spoiler threads already, I've missed them cause I avoid them. But if not, I could totally see it happening. P4 does seem to be short-term, but this triangle could totally be possible and be good... if done well... which we have a 30% of seeing occur under MAB and 'em LOL.

Plus this is a six month deal.

In my mind, this is about reversing a LML retcon, giving Bierdz some cash to continue with his artist ways (and then he can recur back in the future, kind of like Beau Kayzer). Bierdz, I think, is a temporary plot point...the main goal is to give Cane something to struggle with...to win back Lily's love...to win back the town's affections...to begin a romance with Mac (setting up, anew, the Billy-Mac-Cane-Chloe quad).

I see Lily spinning out of this tale. With Tricia Cast recurring, I think Bierdz is also there to introduce a soon-to-return-character into some angst.

Over the next five months, he'll re-establish all his relationships, repair them, and then go back to Australia to live authentically. Before he's done, Cricket will come back for a few reunion scenes.

By November sweeps, Rafe will probably go to Australia to live with him. And what will be left behind is P3's offspring, and Cane's rehabilitation.

I don't see either Nina or P3 sticking around much past November.

That's how I see it playing out. This is more about Philip IV played by the hot young Johnny Driscoll than Nina and Philip III in the long run. In with the new, out with the old.

I also noticed that Thom Bierdz was not listed under the contract players today. He was listed under the recurring actors. I wonder why that is if he is under contract.

And just because I have to ask. Why is it that the writers found it necessary to bring Katherine's waitress friend to the July 4th party, yet find it unnecessary to show Lauren even once visiting Summer in the hospital?

I think another reason it worked was because before ever making any character pregnant, they had the baby switch planned out. It seems to me that they have now altered the timing of Sharon's pregnancy to coincide with Ashley's suggesting to me that nothing is planned out months in advance. I truly wish that soaps would plan out pregnancy and the first year of a child's life before adding them into the bible.

Heck Mctavish had the babyswitch planned before she even had the HW job. She was just a freakin viewer when she came up with the storyline.

If Kay didn't stroke out over this news, after stroking out (twice) over Jill, viewers would be crying foul.

As I see it, she'll "collapse", and that will drag out the P3 reveal of why he left till the cliffhanger of the episode. That's all.

I think the problem is they have had so many Katherine health crises, now that they have the one which should be epic, viewers may just shrug. I wish they hadn't had the one a few days ago, especially since the only purpose, besides foreshadowing, was to remind us once again of what a bad person Jill is supposed to be.

I hope homophobia isn't going to play into Phillip IV's reaction. I want his reaction to just be fury and devastation over what his father has done to him. I don't want this to be, "He doesn't like gays, what a bigot," because I'm afraid that will cause a backlash for a lot of viewers.

I was shocked to see Phillip reveal himself today as well. I didnt get why he did so and just came out so nonchalantly as if it were no big deal. He better have a damn good explanation for not only why he faked his death but why after all these years that he inserted Cane into everyone's lives

Good acting from Jess Walton but I didnt feel a damn thing for Jill. She deserves the hurt and misery she's getting

Are we actually supposed to feel for Billy and Mac? I was disgusted by both of them today. I was liking her but they turned her into a tramp for the show's biggest male slut

It's Sonny Corinthos Syndrome. Too many shoot-outs, and you just stop caring. I keep saying, you bang a drum long enough, people just get used to the sound, and it applies here too. Too many health crises, and people just get bored and don't care.

See, but it's not homophobia in the typical sense of the word. It's a very, VERY complex idea. Not as simple as people who are homophobic because of ignorance or blind religion. If I'm 21 years old, and I find out I grew up fatherless because my dad didn't feel like he could come out at 19, I would have a lot of hostility towards his homosexuality AND towards him. Not all homosexuals - but definitely him. It's really heavy, psychological stuff. As Alvin would say, I don't know if plot-point-to-plot-point storytelling like what's happening on Y&R now can do it justice. In a perfect world, P4 would become good friends with Rafe organically to show he isn't homophobic, while still calling his dad "the faggot who abandoned him", and his journey of reconciling being okay with homosexuality and hating his father would be a long, arduous one for both P3 and P4

Ugh, I can't figure out how to put in spoilers. Ignore post.
