Ed Scott was nothing more than Bill Bell's executor, he had no say in storylines when Bill was writing the show. As soon as Bill stepped down, Scott tried to own the writers, Kay Alden in particular at Y&R, and his ass got fired the first time because of that. Bell sided with his writing protege. Scott would go on take this crap to a whole other level at DAYS.

What Y&R needs, is both a visionary EP and HW. And unless you're Bill Bell, you shouldn't be allowed to be both EP and HW. There needs to be a balance of powers so someone doesn't have too much power and there's something of a checks and balances system.

I suggest a producer from primetime or films that gets compelling melodrama as EP being paired with a very good soap opera writer as HW.

Yeah, that's what I meant, you had Bill Bell and you had Ed Scott. Without those two, Bell to write and Scott to produce, you need a strong replacement for both. Y&R has never had that since Bell was HW and Scott was EP. Even when DS took over and it was Alden/Smith head writing, Y&R was still not exactly what it was.

Yeah, we had an outsider shake up the boat, but it was the wrong outsider. Lynn Marie Lethal was not what Y&R(or any self-respecting soap) needed. But someone outside of soaps(maybe someone from film, primetime, or the stage), who isn't afraid of taking risks, pissing off the audience(for the RIGHT REASONS), and entertaining the masses while making we connoisseurs of soap think about themes, relationship, characterization, etc.

Yeah, it could get alot worse, but I'm willing to welcome aboard any writer that at least TRIES to successfully pull off something engaging and wonderful. If these people(the Head-Writers) don't want to DO their jobs, then invest in the stock market and give these shows to someone who want to use this medium for excellent entertainment.

The genre has hit hard times... but ideally the sets should be the least of their problems. If the people who were IN the sets were written properly and compellingly the background wouldn't matter. We need to focus on what's going on before we focus on where it's happening.

What ever happened to the Colonnade Room? Jimmy's looks like the Wisconsin version of GH's Jakes.

The ranch is believable for Victor Newman because I'm sure it's on a sprawling piece of land, probably over 60 acres.

The Colonnade Room was last used for the gala last year when David and Sabrina were killed.

I seriously don't know what killing off Zapato will do for me as a fan. When you think it can't get much worse - surprise, surprise. And for what? An innocent dog will be killed just so that the writers can prove to us how demented Mary Jane is?

They obviously want to prove to us how hardcore and "cool" they are, when they clearly aren't.

Again, this writing regime started off with a double murder and Niki degrading herself in front of Victor on the beaches of Mexico. That was just a sampling of the crappy and demented vision of this current writing regime and how they intentionally force crap like that on the show. We should have known from that alone the show was going to be heading in this direction and it was going to take over at some point, and it has.

If we want a better written and more balanced show, we need new Head Writers. Nothing is going to change if these hacks running the show remain there, it's going to be more of the same if they remain.
