June 17, 200916 yr Member Ugh, I hate Sarah Buxton. Totally one-note actress that can only play a scheming whore. I never really liked SuBe. It never had a real identity anyway, it never knew what it wanted to be. I think the reason why it became so popular in daily daytime viewings in the UK was because British audiences saw it as a hour-long sitcom, rather than a soap. I adored it. It had its flaws, but it was a great hour of entertainment for me all those years ago. Sarah Buxton deserves to be on daytime. But to get back to Y&R... Sigh. I know. Annie is one of my favorite soap characters ever. And why hasn't Daytime picked up Sarah Buxton?! SuBe was the most enjoyable soap I watched. In its 3 year run, I think I missed, like 3 episodes in total. The most consistent piece of daily entertainment. ITA!
June 17, 200916 yr Member ^ITA Sarah Buxton. Shawn Batten was great tho. I coiuld actually see her on Y&R,
June 17, 200916 yr Member Same here. It has really hit me in the last couple of weeks how much Chloe is a fashionified Nina -- except unlike Nina she has major ties to the canvas. Chloe reminds me of Sarah Buxton's character, Annie Douglas, on Sunset Beach. Annie was the spoiler for Ben & Meg (read Lily & Cane or Billy & Mac) and when she realized she was never going to break them up, she moved into a SL with the scheming Richards' family. Her character rocketed to the stratosphere. Buxton was, for all intents and purposes, the star of SuBe. Not saying Y&R is like SuBe, but it is clear Liz Hendricksen has it. She, like Billy Miller, is a breakout star on this show and needs to be groomed for the big leagues on Y&R. Billy is obviously going to be another Jack/Philip. Chloe is this generation's answer to Jill and Nikki. I would like to propose to you in honor of your post! I've often likened Chloe to a modern fashion-inspired version of Nina and one of my favorite scenes last month was Chloe talking to Nina at the barbecue.
June 17, 200916 yr Member That is the problem that plagues 95% of African-American characters in daytime. The writers still view them as the African-American characters and not simply characters. They need to go back to square one and just write good characters. And integrate them. It's hard to believe this is 2009. All they need to do to fix this problem is just integrate Devon into the other 20 something set, integrate Tyra into the mid 30's set and see if a natural story progression can jump off from there. But how does a show, especially a show like Y&R, solve the diversity problem without making them seem like walking stereotypes, but at the same time, not essentially "whitewashing" or segregating them? It's easy to say, "Why not view them as characters instead of African-American characters," when a large portion of the audience hates that PC bullshit when people forget about race. They don't view Lily as a black character because of Christel Khalil's diction and attitude, but also the fact that she has yet to be paired with another black character. But Lily is, as far as I'm concerned, "fully integrated," even if I don't personally feel she represents the Winters family. But at the same time, I don't want to be preached to either with characters seeing campy crap like "N***** GET LOST" spraypainted on the walls of a house for sale. Race issues would be disastrous in the hands of this writing regime, who are clearly scared of or simply not interested in writing for African-Americans. Ugh, I hate Sarah Buxton. Totally one-note actress that can only play a scheming whore.Sarah Buxton for Phyllis!
June 17, 200916 yr Member Sarah Buxton for Phyllis! LOL I love Sarah Buxton. She's not on Michelle Stafford's level but I have a real core of affection for her. OMG, I am watching yesterday's Y&R right now and -- apart from breaking out in HIVES over how bored and disinterested Christel Khalil's delivery is ("Like, we totally can't have kids, Cane") -- I am getting GOOSEBUMPS from seeing Stacy Haiduk and Doug Davidson in their scenes together. OK, I know it was only a dream but damn. I don't care about Mary Jane trying to entrap Jack as much as Paul and Patty's cat-and-mouse game.

My problem with Lily is not her or the character, but that she's the only type of black person they'll branch off and integrate. Someone more urban like Devon or Tyra is segregated into their own world and Neil is only featured as a Yes man. Lily would be great in a sea of diversity, but as the sole lead black character it strikes me as a bit prejudice.
June 17, 200916 yr Member OMG! VICTOR JUST CAUGHT ADAM!!! ^^ I sould have known he would: Victor was wearing his Black T-Shirt of Doom yesterday. Edited June 17, 200916 yr by Cat
June 17, 200916 yr Member I love the way Kay(Jeanne Cooper) says, "NInA"...hehe I love the way Jess spits out "Nina" like it hurts her to say it.

Do you want more black characters like Lily on Y&R or do you want more urban characters? What kind of stories do you want these characters in? More interracial romances, more supporting stories, more lead stories? Do you want to see Devon and Tyra together in a relationship? I hate asking these questions like Sylph, but I truly want to know. I'd rather see the Winters written out with maybe Neil there as a supporting figure or used in a triangle or romance with Victoria or Nina.
June 17, 200916 yr Member I love the way Jess spits out "Nina" like it hurts her to say it. Yeah, she has been doing that since her first scenes with NINA....LOL. Edited June 17, 200916 yr by Ruxton Hills
June 17, 200916 yr Member So Victor catches Adam and just leaves him there? Even if he suspected him, he should have taken some action. Take the damn laptop, for chrissakes. It's this kinda bullsh!t that makes me question this show.
June 17, 200916 yr Member Stone Cold Chloe is going to be the best thing that happen to this triangle & Billy ego.
