First the previews for Tues/US show:

Cane looked positively freaked out about Nina's digging. It will be nice to see him nervous.

Onto today:

I cannot adequately express how much I am falling in love with Haiduk. She plays a longing, and a childish naivete, but is capable of being cold/diabolical and crisply efficient. She will take this storyline which is in many ways flawed (and yet beautifully premised on the 25 year old unresolved mental health issues of Patty), and elevate to something great and memorable. KEEPER!

Delusional Ashley is a beautiful thing! Sparkly, happy, confident. I loved her. Adam has GOT to get her a LITTLE GIRL. Hmmm. Cassie's prophesy was that Nick and Sharon would have another LITTLE GIRL. Can't WAIT!

Victor confuses me. The writing for him was a bit off. He clearly "fired" Patty Jane. He should have been ENRAGED that she was still in town. But he was quite gentle with her, all things considered. Thus, I am not at all clear what his agenda for her is. But given that she is damaged -- and he knows that -- I find his behavior toward her quite reprehensible. Given what he is doing to Patty Jane...and given that it in some ways mirrors what Adam is doing to Ashley (i.e., using a mentally fragile woman)...it seems he will QUITE deserve whatever Adam dishes out.

Phyllis seemed light, happy, confident, secure. How is this possible?

I sincerely hope Chloe means it---that she is DONE with Billy. Not only would I like to see her in a different orbit, but I'd like to see this young girl be a pleasing counterpoint to the irritating Sharon.

Mackenzie disappointed me today. I realize she is "torn"...but I'm not feeling any love or passion for Raul? I realize he's a short-stay guy, but the story would have a lot more impact if she conveyed that she felt something for someone.

Oh yeah, that i agree with.

I also met that i think they make OLIVIA look like she trys to hard. But for some reason i think they think she looks great, lol, and TLW does, but what Y&R does to her is tragic. Ive said for months now tho that Y&R needs some new wardrope and hair people. its all bad.

Oh, yes, that's true, as we see in this wireimage photo.

She really is a gorgeous woman. Her eyes were twinkling in the scene she shared with ED today.

Her hair is just so distracting. I always wondered why Y&R forced the headband and wig on Dru and Olivia throughout much of their tenure. It was really lame, especially since they were playing very successful Black women. The hair dept on Y&R should be ashamed.

I have heard both of them (Rowell, TLW) say that they wanted the freedom to have their way the way they wanted. TLW, in particular, wanted to be able to have it short. Thus, they both agreed to the wigs, so they could have off-camera hair freedom.

Now, this was in the 1990s...so I don't know what the motivation is now.

Nina is diggin in that boy's behind as my ex roomie would say...gosh I miss having a roomate who loved Y&R.

Phyllis is just doing great isn't she. she's at work...reminiscing with Jack...trying to hook him up with MJ...lol. she's just fine yall!

I think victor KNOWS she's crazy but he has to get Paul off her ass or she'll get found out and HE'LL get found out, plus he didn't mention JT finding her on the ranch. Once Paul's out of the way, he'll push her out.

Theyr'e damned if they do, damned if they don't. If thye diversified their storytelling like you suggest, some OTHER wise guy on a message board would blast them for being "All over the map" and not having a "cohesive vision" or having a "lack of direction".

Victor was confusing and quite a jerk too. I just want to see where this goes. People, except for the psycho MJ and the vengeful Adam, are flip-flopping left and right. Yes, Y&RWorldTurner, we know why that is.

Phyllis should not have had to go to the office. She could work from home, she did NOT have to go to the office. And her behavior was very composed. But I think that MAB tends to show people get out of situations without gravitas before (Chloe learning Sharon slept with Billy the day of their wedding and she still fought for him. WTF?!?!?) only to see them eventually act how they should (Chloe throwing that ring in his face and leaving his sorry behind today).

The same thing happened with Sharon's kleptomania. It's not playing all the beats but it should grow into something horrible very soon. At least I hope it will. And I could be wrong, of course.

They key is having every storyline make sense, and yeah, they have to be well-written. I personally don't think the show makes a whole lot of sense at the moment, and there appears to one dominant tone on the show.

Offering the audience variety and well constructed stories couldn't hurt. But again, it's all subjective.

I actually agree with a lot of what you say.

But I don't think being satisfied with what MAB and co. have offered is the worst thing in the world. It'd be nice if it were better but it's not right now. And I'll take a flawed Y&R over a disastrous one any day.

    • Didn't Carrie2 even seduce a minor? Ick. Wait. Josh had an affair with Vanessa? Or she just thought he did? I know people always say "it's just a soap" but the way mental illness is portrayed on soaps (and that goes for pretty much all of them) has always been not great, especially PPD. They practically turned Claire into The Joker. She also was trying to seduce men. (I notice that now Mary Ryan Munisteri is listed as co HW with Ryder in the 1986 episodes, Claire has calmed down a lot. Never thought her GL career was very good but seems like she tried to course correct that a bit).
    • sss Ms. Tunie is a goddess. I feel all the anger, pride, sadness, arrogance, dignity, fear, love, and other emotions in everything she does as Anita.
    • You're right. People like me who stuck with her, did so because of her history. The show just skated her along with no story,  no goal, no aim. Right again! This is who I forgot before. When you describe her, it makes me appreciate her more. Thinking back I loved Mandy.
    • Maybe Guza is becoming Y&R Head writer and Jilly will be named EP! Remember CBS installed Latham as consultant and later Mal Young, both of whom took over the show. Of course, they each got credit during the consulting days.
    • Don't forget Carrie, who as Carrie2 was screwing everything in pants, and PPD Reva, who to either get back at Josh for his supposed affair with Vanessa (or just to prove she's more desirable than Van) tries to screw half the male population.
    • Post-production isn't exactly akin to sweeping the floors, but it makes more sense given her CV.  And, it would invalidate any concerns that she has an undo influence on the creative process, as opposed to visual and sound design of the show.  In fact, given her interests, it makes sense that she would want to consult and see the impact of newer technology in a post-production facility.  I could only imagine how much has changed in sound technology since she worked on SB, and that might be intriguing to utilize. As well as their impending move (not as soon as B&B, but we all know it will happen) and helping set up post-production at the new facility.
    • The last five or so episodes of season 8 after the Jean Hackney story ended were pretty strong with the Laura/Val friendship breakdown, Ben's PTSD with Val trying to help him, and the start of Jill realizing that Val was as much of a threat to her happiness with Gary as Abby was. I always thought that the Jean Hackney story should have ended at mid season at the latest... and then deal with the fall-out because seeing Ben/Val switch roles with Ben in mental decline instead of Val would have been interesting to explore.  And seeing Val and Laura's friendship suffer also was interesting and should have been explored especially with Karen caught in the middle and Abby both intrigued and amused at the conflict that she didn't cause. However, season 8 was the only Latham run season where Val was well written.
    • Well, she's not in there sweeping the floors at the end of the night, and you don't bring in an award-winning producer to just sit on their backsides (or hey, maybe you do!). Again, without knowing the specific capacity she's in there working as⏤and it seems as if we are not going to at the present time⏤it's hard to speculate/discuss. I would interpret she's in a role that either would not require being credited, or she's, as others have speculated, is back and not receiving credit for the work she's done. That'd be like saying, per the WGA, all writers must be credited, but as we've seen by those who've worked as fi-core, they don't always receive credit.

And, if my research is correct, per the DGA, you can request not to be credited for work you do. I could only assume the same would be for the PGA, as well.
    • When Anita read Barbara's letter, it started out with the viewers hearing it in Barbara's voice as Anita read silently. And then Anita saying the next portion aloud while Barbara's voice continued simultaneously. And then ending with Anita alone saying the last part aloud. Excerpt from interview  (link to full interview) The rest may be spoilerish -- Only the nonspoiler part here: I love the idea of reading that letter,” shares Tunie. “And at one point in the script, I think it said that my voice joined her, and [Anita] started reciting the letter from memory because [she] memorized this letter. I suggested to Steve Williford, our director, ‘What if it’s like that moment in Hamilton when Hamilton is writing the resignation letter to George Washington, and then he starts saying it too, and then Hamilton’s voice fades away, and then it’s all George. What if we do something like that?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, my God! I just got chills. Let’s do it!’ So, we did it.” I understood that it worked really well, so I’m really happy about that.”
    • I think MVJ and Guza made a good team in the launching of the soap, and I'm hoping that the rotation of all stories and characters is maintained once he officially departs from the credits. And so far, Ron C's breakdowns have been decent... but they pop only when he's paired with a good script writer like Jazmin.   I hope once Guza leaves officially... that MVJ is able to reign in Ron C and the dread Jamey G.
