Inside the July 6th issue of Soap Opera Weekly 1999, the mag covers the upcoming premiere of Passions and gives an insiders guide. Looking back at the article now, I noticed a few interesting things:

Theresa's description makes her seem like she's going to be a villain. "Longing for a life of luxury, scheming, calculating Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald has her sights set on Ethan Crane... Pilar wants Theresa to be down-to-earth like her eldest son, Luis..."

Frank Lomax, described in the article as "Detective Frank Petito" was suppose to be a main character. I think he was suppose to be Whitney's original love interest as the show alluded to earlier on. That however was scrapped after Chad was introduced and came to town from LA. Frank disappeared.

The article comes with candid photos and a picture of the cast outside of there studio.

I would really like to know what JER's original plans were. Was Theresa meant to be the bad girl that tears apart Ethan and Gwen and be a vixen. Were Frank and Whitney meant to be?

And the biggest surprise for me was, NO TIMMY! The article doesn't mention him so at first I figured maybe this was meant to be a surprise to the audience, but in a later interview with JER, he reveals Timmy was never in Passions bible and only came as a thought while he was laying out the first week of the show. This makes me wonder how Tabithas character was suppose to be without her sidekick.

Oh the things I would like to ask Mr. Reilly.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
    • And in case anyone is confused; Rusty was hired by HB to work undercover and infiltrate some gang sabotaging Lewis.

    • The Dallas finale was the highest-rated episode since October 9, 1987 (Gone with the Wind). Prior to the finale, the last Dallas episode to finish ahead of a new episode of Murder, She Wrote was October 23, 1987 (Tough Love). Prior to the finale, the last Dallas episode to finish ahead of a new episode of The Cosby Show was February 22, 1985 (Shattered Dreams).
