I think I'm gonna pee myself! Bellcurve, I cna't wait for this to hit the air, I'll be tuning in every single day. The set is so fabulous, I can hardly stand it. And damn if they didn't listen to people and put trilons back up on the big board. Lack of movement in the donnymid winner's circle and the lack of the ticking clock just KILLED all the tension. I would love to see some good guests, Melody Thomas knows how to play this game... I'd like to see her make an appearance.

Does anyone else think that CBS dragging its feet on making an announcement is gonna hurt whatever show replaces GL? It's getting to be August - 4 months after announcing the cancellation of GL and I think affiliates should have been told by now what the replacement show is going to be so that they can plan their fall schedules.

I can pretty much tell that my CBS affiliate is not going to carry whatever replaces GL because we get GL at 3 pm now and Oprah at 4, News at 5, but the station is already promoting that News will start at 4 pm come September with Oprah moving to 3 pm.

I just don't think it's a good sign that an official announcement has not been made yet and now the rumor is that an announcement won't be made until early August.

I remember the last time CBS aired Pyramid on its daytime schedule, it aired during the 10-11 (EST) hour, either 10-10:30 or 10:30-11. When CBS canceled those game shows that aired during that hour, they gave the hour back to the affiliates. Now, many affiliates air GL during the 10-11 hour, even though "officially" its timeslot is 3-4 (EST). I would imagine that more affiliates will move the game shows from their official 3-4 slot to the 10-11 slot should they choose to air them......and CBS might even make 10-11 the "official" timeslot, moving it from 3-4.

To some of the bigger markets, maybe. To the smaller markets, it won't matter because they can't afford the syndie programming anyway.

Pyramid will cover the distance it needs and if it catches on(as I'm sure it will) other stations will follow suit by replacing their lower rated syndication fare or one of the low performing soaps with it.

Well... Bellcurve, I agree that this delay in the announcement is most likely due to "Deal" not being a sure thing. Pyramid has always been one of the best game shows of all time in terms of popularity, so I bet this version will fly. I certainly hope they use one of the original themes, you would THINK it would be cheaper to license one of the original themes, instead of scoring a whole new one. My preference is the 70's version, and it sounds REALLY better in full stereo. When you hear it on the original eppies, and then hear the full stereo version, it's like night and day. Of course, the Phase-shifted electric guitar on it makes it sound "dated", but so what. They re-recorded TPIR theme, and it's hard to tell from the original.. you can just barely tell the diffeence. I like that they didn't change it much, but the change was so small.. why spend the money? It seems like foolish waste to me.

The original "Tuning Up"? As in the one from the $10,000 Pyramid? Really?

I have that on my iTunes, but I HATE it. It's so blah and 70's. The update proved to be more "gameshow"-esque and dramatic.

Although, I admit, I really wish Wheel would replace their generic music and bring back the Alan Thicke theme(prior to the Dinner Music Friendly "Changing Keys"). I think that captures the fun and fluff essence of the show more than "Changing Keys."

I flove the original Tuning Up! The bass line is what does it, and the organ. But I'm all about the 70s, so maybe that's why I love it lol

Wheel's current music, and just about all of its theme music since the late 90s, is so casino-esque to me. I always feel like I'm in front of a slot machine when the music plays. I liked the original Changing Keys and the first remix, but the rest is ehhh. The Thicke theme is spectacular and one of my faves of all time.

Jeopardy's newest remix is one of my favorites too, but a lot of people don't like it.

(hint: I can talk forever and ever about game show music. I am obsessed with the various Price is Right cues.)

I'm a HUGE fan of game show cues as well. We may be lurking on the same game show MBs and not even know it.

I'm more of an 80's fanatic, but I just kind of hate how SLOW and undramatic Tuning Up is. It's good that they worked it into the remix that they did for the Television City versions of the series. I like the Tattletales theme(the show with Burt Convey) and the Match Game theme. Gosh, I was a kid in Candy Land when I first saw GSN. I was a huge fan of Tattletales and Child's Play, but I'd never be able to tell you now how those games were played.

I hate most of the Wheel remixes, but the recent theme I've really gotten into. It's Big Band, like all the others post-SONY takeover, but I still like it. And there was a Speed-Up round cue that they started using in Nashville(?) with a guitar that they decided to keep for the rest of the season that I really liked until the following season, they replaced with some sort of lame ticking clock thing again.

I like most of TPIR's cues. One I really like, as of late, is the one they used to play(prior to Drew's arrival) for Race Game. You can hear it if you have Ludia's release of the game on CD-ROM.

LOL. I love this thread! :D It's like our own game show convention at SON!

I haven't frequented any game show boards in years. When I first got GSN circa 2000, I posted at their official board for about a year or so. Twas there (and through watching GSN) I received all my classic game show schooling. My favorite eras the early/mid 70s and early 80s, though I like the 90s as well. I'd probably like the 60s too, but so much of that stuff is long gone :( I've YouTubed so many episodes of mostly-gone game shows lately..."Split Second" is one of THE best game shows I've ever seen. I hate the fact that ABC erased over most of it.

I loved "Tattletales," but it's been so long since it's been on regularly. I like the early episodes best, before it basically became the Newlywed Game with celebrities(!). "Child's Play" was on GSN recently for a good while, nearly two years. I liked it a lot. I've been watching the two-hour block of Combs's Feud, 25K Pyramid, and two "Super Password" episodes pretty much every morning for a few weeks now and have been loving it. Really forgot how much I love those shows.

I'm all about the 70s TPIR cues (and 70s game show stuff, period). They could score the whole show using stuff like Brioche, The Cats, Splendido, Big Banana, Bean Stalker, Deja Vu, etc, and I'd be perfectly satisfied. I was appalled when they dumped the classic "contestans not appearing on stage..." music with Drew's takeover. What mindless, needless change!

This thread needs to never die! I've pretty much found places online to discuss (or just lurk around) all of my other TV interests, but I can never find a good game show place.

Bellcurve, you don't like Tuning up? Oh my gosh... that song is orgasmic heaven. Of course, the dorks who put out the Game show theme CD had to screw it up and credit the 80's version to Bob Cobert as the composer. HELLO? Anyone with ears can tell both songs are "Tuning Up"... with just a minor tweak here and there. I thought the 80's version was ok, but the "staccato" progression of it bothered me, had it been more smoothed out, I'd have liked it better. And You know something, I've never met ONE person, ANYWHERE who didn't like Alan Thicke's "Big Wheels" much better than any dreck Merv composed. It brings back such fond memories of childhood, watching Wheel and then Y&R right after. And I'm sorry, but am I the only one who thinks Pat Sajak has the personality of a wet noodle? Who the hell would hire this man for ANYTHING? And talking about killing the excitement of the speed up round, unlike Woolery, Sajak couldn't hit the orange 1,500$ slot in that final spin to save his life. I'm a TV show theme fanatic, especially game shows... but there were a few that are annoying. Joker's Wild original "The Savers" is really COOL and different, but listen to it more than twice, and it drives you to the nuthouse. And I HATED Tic Tac Dough's theme. I thoguht it sounded like it was being played by farting chipmunks!

Man, I'll have to see it sometime.

Completely agree. It was kind of jarring not hearing that one day. If you were in another room, you knew to get ready to watch the Showcase following the Showdown.

C'mon, you don't wanna chat with those rabid Price fans at Golden-Road? ;)

Hey, I TRIED to like it. LOL.

Ask any product of the 80/90's and they'll far more identify with Changing Keys. Hell, I didn't even know shopping existed until I was junior high. Then "buy a vowel" made perfect sense. I actually got a tape from a tape trader(who happened to also love Sunset Beach oddly enough) and it was great watching almost every single era of Wheel that I may have missed out on, considering how big of a fan I was. And Chuck Woolery was so energetic and fun, giving you the play-by-play of everything that happened.

Funny that Merv hired him and Pat's a staunch Conservative. Me thinkey "casting couch?" Wouldn't surprise me.

Notice how they will strategically place the $5K space in the same spot in the final round during sweeps.

While we're on Wheel, did you guys hear the rumor that they are removing the Free Spin and adding a space called "Free Guess" or something like that? Where someone can call any letter(including a vowel) and not be penalized for it if they get it wrong. And each letter would be worth $500.

I don't really care about GL's replacement which we know will be a game show. What I'm most interested in is ATWT's replacement. We already know it's next and the show is so bad it deserves it. But will they replace it with more game shows? Expand B&B? Bring DAYS over? Or add a talk show? As much as I'd like them to expand B&B or add DAYS, I see DAYS being cancelled and them just doing a talk show. I don't know how CBS will fare with just two soaps. That'll be a sad time for soaps IMO, especially when one is only 30 minutes. I honestly think the safest best would be something like Price is Right, Y&R, local news, B&B, DAYS (in ATWT's timeslot) and the two half hour game shows.

No, Bellcurve, I hadn't heard that. I would MISS the free spin. But then, I also miss the "Buy a Vowel" space. This was only on the Woolery version if I remember right, and I'm not even sure it lasted through his entire run. If you landed on it, you HAD to buy a vowel, and if you had no money or the vowels had all been called, you lost your turn. Pretty brutal. I loved the SHOPPING music, I want to know where a person can find that. However, those prizes were pretty LAME, they had some ugly sh!t for you to spend your money on. Me and my mother always said we'd never want to go on wheel, cause they never had any prizes you'd want. I guess your'e too young to have seen Kathie Lee on Name That Tune? IT was a hoot, that woman cracks me up... I call her the poor man's Vikki Carr. I read that they no longer exist, but I was in LOVE with the Dennis James NBC version of Name That Tune. "Ring That Bell" was hilarious, they'd put the contestants about 20 feet away from this big glass chandelier-like bell (that lit up red when you rung it), and you had to run up to it and pull the long rope that hung from it when you knew the song. It had a big tassle on the end of it, and some people almost ripped the damn bell down. People cutting their fingers on the money tree... LOVED IT!

i think that ATWT's replacement depends on several things. First and formost, i do not see B&B going to an hour no matter what. As far as the game show goes, i think it depends on how GL's replacement goes. As for a talk show? Who knows. Those have not done so well in recent years as far as new ones going for the most part. As for Days? Well.. its a wildcard. Could it happen? Sure, it has a chance. But a small one, IMHO. It's also way to soon to say what NBC will do with Days. We know that Sept-Feb will make or break days. If it can balance out in ratings and stay steady when working under a 40% budget cut? I think it is safe on NBC.
