It's hard to speculate with Cane cause he's such a goodie. Secret baby? Wouldn't make sense. Still married to someone from Aussie-land? Nope. People talk about writing villains into corners but you can also write heroes into corners as well.

I will speculate though, that if MAB can somehow fix Cane and make him fun to watch and fit on the show, she'll get the Immunity Idol for at least a year.

They seem to think he's some romantic hero, which he fails miserably at.

I wouldn't mind MAB picking up that dropped scene with Cane on the telephone having a questionable conversation with his uncle in Australia during the LML era. Maybe they should wait a while before Cane is exposed as some fraud or whatever, but I wouldn't mind it.

But again, we need strong writing to make it all work, MAB only seems to know to write for a certain group of characters she likes.

While DG seems like a very likeable and nice person, I don't think he's a good actor. However, for some reason, I am not as bothered by Cane as many here. I can take or leave him. I've had moments where I've liked him (like last week when he called Billy out on having his own pity party), and then moments where I can't stand him. I think he could add something to the show, particularly since I do see potential in Cane vs. Billy. They have got to scale down his self-righteousness though, and make him a little less boring. He's not a very layered or nuanced character, they could really work on that (though I don't now if DG could handle that type of character). I also realize that Y&R has a certain "hunk" quota that they have to reach, as every soap does, and he fits the bill for the younger set, but they could stand to give him more layers and depth. Right now, Cane doesn't seem anything more than the typical "pretty but dumb" guy.

It's painful that he's the Chancellor heir, given his age and the fact that he's such a poorly developed character. Though LML dropped it, I wonder if she planned to expose him as a fraud later on. That phone conversation with his uncle had to have had some significance for her, as horrible of a writer she was.

Yes; he is not the romantic hero. I can see him as a Brad copy, a sleazy, kinda disgusting guy, who just uses women and goes after money. Who then dies miserably. I have been wanting them to revisit that scene with his uncle, too. But I see why they wouldn't do it now; the Kay/Jill thing has just been undone, some time has to pass by. But, yes, they should reveal him as a fraud, and make Jill come after him like a bat outta hell... maybe she can be falsely accused of his murder, I don't care.... Just as long as this is done with.

I really do think that the fact that he was pimped as a Chancellor and that his creation raped the show's history did him absolutely no favors. Good or bad actor, his character is an insult, a slap on the face to the show and that will never change.

I think Cane is fine. My only real problem with the character is the weird age he's supposed to be. He looks enough like JW that I can buy him as her long lost son.

My other nitpick is that Nick already serves the role of pretty but sweet dumb hunk in a corporate job he's not qualified for. Now that Cane is back to his natural setting, a dive bar, maybe he can develop an identity that's distinct from Nick's. If they're going for the GC version of a Humphrey Bogart movie character -- a basically amoral but pleasant fellow, then the writers are on the right track.

Even though it wasn't directed at me (feel free to dismiss it with a quaint "Oh Rose"), I'll tell you what I like about Cane. I know that i may be banned from this thread for saying anything, anything nice about Cane (Dee will never talk to me again - "Dee: No. I won't.") But I'll take the risk and say this. I like that he's gallant and heroic. He's sort of noble but not arrogant. When he loves a woman, he truly loves her with his soul. He's forgiving and gracious as well. He's impossibly altruistic and down to earth. He's a classic romance novel stud. His loving nature and romantic passion is laughed at but it makes me coo. I am a Lane fan and I like him with Lily cause they fit.

My problem with Cane is that he's not the Chancellor heir I wanted nor could ever expect. Him being Austrailian is the biggest WTF-ever in casting and adds nothing to his character but an out-of-nowhere dialect that neither befits the son of Jill nor gives him any complexity. He's also passive and his storylines usually are him being used as a chew-toy for women. As for the actor, he can't possibly ever go toe-to-toe with any of the males in the business department, which is why he's back to being a bartender. The writing for him has made him a chump and confused the heck out of me. I get that he's nice, but WHO IS HE?

    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
