Not sure where to even ask this exactly as he's appeared on so many soaps, but did anyone around here link the We Love Soaps Nicolas Coster interview? It was a great read.

I read the first part but also wasn't sure where to post it I remember when he said he wasn't fond of working with Beverlee and that's all he was going to say.

IIRC, Coster said BM had a photographic memory and was very patronizing toward anyone who didn't. On the one hand, that does sound awful. Yet, on the other hand, many daytime actors (hell, many actors in general) were and are notoriously lazy in regards to studying their scripts. BITD, at least, many believed they could "wing it" w/ cue cards, teleprompters, and even hiding their scripts on the set during tapings. Now, I'm not suggesting Coster was/is a lazy actor, or that he's lying about BM (even she told Michael Logan and other interviewers that she could be difficult to work with, especially if she were feeling overworked), but it is food for thought.

CarlD2, the older woman in that Another World episode is actress Sloan Shelton, who in later years played Loretta, proprietor of the hair salon who hired Rachel 'round about the time Rachel and Carl became involved. Loretta served as a sort of Ada stand-in, and lent Rachel & Carl much moral support when Rachel's family was against them. I don't know who's she's playing in this earlier episode.

Re: your "Scenes from the Set of Another World" SOD posting, isn't it amazing how much time went into soap tapings in days past? Now it's get 'em in and get 'em out. And the difference definitely shows on screen. I'd never heard that there had been discussion of a possible Pat-Sandy relationship. I can't see that being in Pat's character at all, but God knows a lot of AW denizens were acting out of character in those days.

I remember the location sequences highlighted in your second SOD posting, with Rachel and Matthew being followed along the coastal highway. Seems hard to me to believe that William Grey Espy (Mitch) was ever "AW's most popular male star," as the magazine describes. Although that level of popularity would help explain why someone who possessed such amateurish acting skills was thrown in with the show's leading lady. Watch clips from that era, and you can see Vicky Wyndham trying to pick up Espy's missed lines and react to what is obviously mangled dialogue on his part. He was an amazing looking man, and the Rachel-Mitch-Mac-Janice tale was one of my favorites, but even as a kid I knew he was a bad actor. He was much improved when he returned years later and Mitch romanced Felicia, though still not a master thespian.

I had always heard that Coster was notorious for not knowing his lines and would write them on little pieces of paper all over the set. I'm sure that would drive Beverlee crazy.

Thank you for telling me her name! She played Harriet Corbman, Shannon's sidekick on ATWT in the mid/late 80s. In the earlier episode she was playing a professor who had taught Taylor Benson, the psycho shrink who tormented John and Sharlene.

There are a lot of people from around this time who are in bit player roles and I keep trying to figure out who they are, like the woman at the hotel desk when a woman was posing as Paulina, or like the woman who played the yacht seller who flirted with Cass.

I know Coster and John Considine were jokers on set so Beverlee might not have liked that.

I can believe that Espy would have been AW's most popular male at the time or one of the most, because he was a breath of fresh air and had such a sensuality about him. I think that Doug Watson would have probably still been most popular but I guess he had been there longer so he wasn't as fresh.

I do wonder about a Pat/Sandy relationship (although it would have been very good drama -- wasn't this around the time Pat had broken up with Mac?), but then, AW had done some older woman/younger man stuff before this and I wonder if they would have said that Sandy was with older women when he was an escort.

I wanted to say thanks for reading this stuff, I'm sure it must have been kind of dull all pushed together in one sitting, and telling me about your thoughts at the time you were originally watching.

I just watched a few more July 1991 episodes. Can't believe that Amanda passed up that hot hunk photographer for dull Sam. I did a double take when I realized that that actor went on to play AW's umpteenth (although thankfully last) serial killer in 1996, the one who killed Frankie. Maybe Amanda had the right idea after all!

And I saw the last episode with Cali Timmins I have always liked Judi Evans but this won't be an easy adjustment for me.

So what do you all think the point was of bringing in Hannah, Paulina's old foster sister? She didn't last that long did she? I remember when they recast her in early 1998 when Paulina was on the run with her son Dante. I think that actress does some wedding business now or something.

Anyone else think that The Days of the Week's Violet McKay and Mojo were *heavily* influenced by a certain AW pair?:

I hadn't seen that in years. Now that you mention it yeah, that's uncanny. Sad to think we might have more of this available than the actual McKinsey/Oehler pairing.

I have one episode where Iris and Vivien have a late night talk when they both can't sleep, it was shown on WoST actually. I'm getting closer and closer to the ou-Yay ube-Tay thing.

OMG, is that SNL? Is that John Candy as Jack Harrington and John Belushi as Rocco? Rick MOranis as Clay Collins and the dad from American Pie as Dr. Eliot Sabian?

That is an amazing piece of satire. It is uncanny how just like a 70s soap it was. Whoever wrote it must have been a major AW fan because the whole thing is done with love and attention.

I think I know what it is about Frankie that bothers me -- or perhaps the writing for Frankie. Or perhaps even the actress, Alice Barett. I think it's because she is not nearly as funny as she seems to think she is. Most of her stuff is played for kooky laughs but I don't think I have laughed once at any of her shtick. It's all a little heavy-handed. It is a real contrast with Cass and Felicia's urbane wit, Iris's fabulously bitchy asides and Donna's feather-light delusions/self-deprecation.
