Well, she was in the Matthews house for Russ and Tracey's wedding reception in 1980. Don't know why else she would have visited up to the Christmas scene.

That's cool. I didn't remember she had attended the wedding reception.

Regarding the December 24, 1984 episode: Wow, Rachel at the Matthews house?? I bet Rachel hadn't had a scene on that set in at least a decade. LOL.

On Christmas Eve, Rachel was at the house to clean up and redecorate the house after Aunt Liz’s Christmas tree had started a fire in the house on the previous Friday cliffhanger. Mark Singleton was in a wheelchair and walked when he saved someone in the house from the fire. I’m thinking it might have been Kevin Thatcher he rescued.

I understand all that, because I was watching the show back in 1984. I was just commenting on how unusual it was to see Rachel in the Matthews' (a family she previously hated) house. But I do understand the situation on that Christmas eve.

This is a very silly coincidence, but TCM is showing King's Row right now, and I was thinking about the fact that two of its stars have a connection to Another World -- Ann Sheridan, who played Katharine Corning, and Bob Cummings, whose son (by his third wife) Tony played Rick Halloway -- when Parris (Bob Cummings) suddenly said to Drake (Ronald Reagan):

"Dr Tower said something once: each of us live in multiple worlds."

The echo of "we do not live in this world alone but in a thousand other worlds" made me laugh.

I know Rachel and Russ lived there together with Jim and Mary early in their marriage. Did they move out together before their marriage broke up? I know nothing Russ provided for her was ever good enough for Rachel but I can't remember whether they had their own place.

Yes, Russ and Rachel eventually moved into their own apartment, and were there until their marriage ended. At that point, Russ moved out and I assume Rachel and Jamie stayed there -- at least for a while.

Thanks. That surprised me at first because I was assuming that the apartment would have been modest, but I see from the AWHP synopses that Rachel managed to get them into an apartment beyond their means and that was where they were when Russ left. There are references to her using the money Jim and Mary had given them for Jamie, and thinking about earning money by having baby Jamie get into modeling! But it looks like she and Russ had moved into a more modest apartment in the spring of 1969 and about a year later Rachel arranged the move to the "luxury" apartment.

Does anyone know if Rachel and Missy Matthews were friends? I believe both characters were on the show at the same time for at least a year or two, but I've never read or heard anything about their relationship -- if they even had one. Perhaps they were friendly, or perhaps they disliked one another. Or I suppose it's possible they never shared scenes together.

I've wondered, if Missy had returned to AW in the later years -- maybe mid-1980s to mid-90s, would she and Rachel have remembered one another? Or would they have been introduced as if they were strangers?

Missy and Rachel didn't interact very much outside of social occasions such as Walter and Lenore's wedding, Matthews, holiday events, and parties. They were friendly enough, but I wouldn't say they were close friends. Think of Cass and Donna over the years until they dated towards the last year(s) of the show. Missy was a bit more ambivalent towards Rachel as opposed to Pat and Alice who tolerated Rachel during her marriage to Russ but saw her for the greedy social climber that she was. Missy was perfectly content with being Bill's wife while Rachel refused to be a housewife with a bunch of kids.

Carmen Duncan was on the iconic Australian soap Number 96 for several months before leaving due to her pregnancy. Most of Carmen's run on the show was wiped, but through a "bridging episode" of those lost years, I saw a few photos and clips, including her very last scene (followed by the first scene of her replacement, Jill Foster).

@DaytimeFan I think you were a Carmen fan too so this may also be new to you.

Carmen's sister Paula was on the show for a longer run, as Carol, the sister of long-running gay character Don (one of the first gay characters on TV in a substantial role).

Thank you for the information. So if Missy and Rachel interacted at Matthews family parties and holiday events in the late-1960s, then they were actively acquainted and most certainly shared scenes. And I assume, if Missy had returned to Bay City in the 1980s or 1990s, she and Rachel would have recognized one another, and would have had a generally positive (although not close) relationship. And only a complete idiot head-writer would have introduced Rachel and Missy as complete strangers in the 80s or 90s.
