I'm going to disagree with you on this. I understand the points you're making (such as Gosling making that comment a while back), but overall I thought Craig Melvin was very respectful of Deidre, DAYS, and the soap genre.
Yes, he played the hits with the comments about demonic possession, comas, and soap slaps, but all of those would be in the opening paragraphs of any Marlena/Deidre Hall bio -- or obituary. Melvin didn't mock any of it, and was kind to her while seeming invested in the interview. He celebrated her 50 years multiple times.
The Ryan Gosling stuff was likely new to most people watching. Everyone's not interested in this stuff as much as we are. Why nothing on actor or character deaths? Because it would be a downer.
TODAY gave the Hall interview over 6 minutes, as much or more time as big name films and movie stars. I really think the interview worked.
