And I don't want to risk trying. Y&R is so much better under her, that I don't want to risk going back to what it was a couple of years ago. I didn't hate LML as much as some, but MAB understands the show. Some say the pacing is off, that maybe in some of the stories, but she has slowed it down in the classic Bell style and that goes a long way towards making me happy.

Which is exactly why he needs one he will see. Jack should be a patriarch. He needs a legacy. Nick already has two children that are on the show, that's enough for now. They should bring back Kemo, but it doesn't seem like it's happening anytime soon. They will bring back Kyle eventually. That story writes itself, especially with Diane coming back too.

If they give him a kid now, it would still be 10 years or so before he is in that role. Then Kyle and/or Kemo can come back and we can have the next generation of Abbots. But it seems to me Jack has to take on the patriarch role eventually, especially since Billy is so much like Jack anyway. Even smilin' Jack has to grow up someday.

John Abbott was hardly the brightest bulb in the lighting grid, but he served the patriach role.

Jack has definitely changed over the years-become softer. That's as much due to Peter Bergman as the writing.Really,Jack should have learned something by now.To see him as the conniver he was back in the Terry Lester days would probably come off as sleazy.

Billy should be what Jack was to the show back in the 80's,but somehow the writing isn't there.Billy Miller is fine, but comparing Billy/Chloe to Jack/Patty/Diane/Lindsey etc.somehow the stakes don't seem as high and the emotional involvement not as great.

The show needs to build the next generation.not just as adjuncts to the vets. That's not an easy task.

they need to even out the kids for the next generation, you will have

Fen - Michael and Lauren's son

Summer - Nick and Phyllis's son

Reed - JT and Victoria's son

Delia - Billy and Chloe's daughter

John "Jack" Abbott III or Doris Dina Abbott - Jack and Sharon's son or daughter

if they make Sharon's embryo a Newman it messes up the pairings in the future!

Jack HAS the children he wants. He just neglects them, because he's fundamentally too narcissistic. I do not want him rewarded. He should be doomed to raising Nick and Victor's children.

Bingo!

By having tht horror-show named Billy Abbott on the show -- now even as the recipient of John's ghostly wisdom -- the transitioning toward Billy as the next generation of Abbott f*ck-ups seems fully in gear.

LMAO

Let us not forget, though this is not directly related to your post, tht we HAVE the new patriarch on this show. AND HE IS PERFECT.

His name is Patrick Murphy, and he is so perfect, he'll be able to dispense wisdom to the "boys" of the show while taking 'em flyfishing in the Wisconsin streams.

I do hope they use him this way.

Although I see your point, they can always bring in outsiders. Your list shows that we do have the basis for a next generation. And Marla, though I know you have a bit of an "agenda", I cannot tell you how deeply I love your signature banner!

I don't think that's the issue at all. KeMo is asian and this show clearly has no intention of bringing him back. They can't even write for the AA family that has been on the show for 20 years. Are they going to bring on KeMo and try to make that work any time soon? Call me cynical, but I think not. They should, but they won't (imo).

Kyle is off screen because the writers were done with Diane. I think they will bring him back when the time is right, but I want to see Jack have an actual on screen family and I don't think that's too much to ask for John Abbott's oldest son.

You know what, I hope you are wrong with Keemo. Although the character would clearly have been conceived in the early 70s, and therefore be pushing 40, they can young him down (like Cane or younger). The SORASing is out of control anyway, so nobody counts ages. I FERVENTLY HOPE AND BELIEVE that Keemo is on the docket for return. I'd love to see tht. In fact, when people used to complained "LML killed the Abbotts", I always thought there ws plenty of opportunity to bring in a next generation with these folks.

This is not true. Victor is the one who is too narcissistic to raise his own kids. In any case, raising other peoples' kids is not being "doomed." It is not like Nick and Victoria were the children of Satan. LOL! Nick was lucky to have Jack as his step-father because Victor never gave him the time of day when he was kid.

    • This episode was probably the most we've ever seen of Jan.. and it took long enough. The phone conversation between Jan/Ashley also shed light on their backstory.. and I think it explains why Ashley seems to live in a dreamworld and why she's having difficulties with living with Derek.  Derek could be doing everything right and Ashley would still have a problem because she was an only child, didn't see her mother model positive male/female interactions, and sounds as if she was alone a lot of the time. Nicole is modeling healthy human behavior and she would be smart not to listen to Dani's advice... well intentioned as it is. Eva is the character you root for because she's suffering the consequences of her actions.  And if I were Eva, I wouldn't want to be part of the Dupree world.   I'm hoping the Doug/Joey scenes today is signaling that we're finally moving to the next stage of this story... Doug either asking Vanessa for the money, or letting Joey have dibs on Vanessa's business books, etc.   And Joey finally showing his true colors makes me think we might be approaching that next stage of this story.
    • Lord have mercy!!! Not SilkPress vs Eva at Oprhany Gene for everyone to see!!!! Though I loved Vernon shading SilkPress. I continue to love all this fallout.   Is THAT Joey's endgame?
    • WAIT!!?  You don't want to know CM's workout secrets?  And a recap of his insta feed?  What's wrong with you?   Anyhow, today's show had good character moments.  I feel like Sonny/Laura brought it down.  I really like Tracey and Jason scenes so I think I am a weirdo.  Carly/Lulu were actually pretty good as well, but Carly's dress was some sort of bondage/leather type situation?  It was a strange wardrobe choice lol.
    • Oh God When are we gonna see this on BTG?
    • Yeah, I don't really love Felicity being used to push the Chad/Cat agenda.  I don't get the question on Xander's behavior either.  He was wrong and offensive. I like Xander.  I think Paul Telfer is great.  If Marlena did the same thing I would say she's wrong too.  Characters are imperfect and that's fine.
    • Vanessa told Joey that her best friend had cheated and has a surprise daughter.  Joey said the same had happened to him.  I wasn't sure if Joey was saying he has an adult out-of-wedlock child?
    • Interesting. I definitely think that it's possible that Jan could be a former lover of Joey's from back in the day, maybe back when he was still married. I won't be surprised if it comes out at some point that Jan used to be an escort or something.
    • Quick question, How are you guys making time to watch all these soaps? I consider myself a pretty organized person, but since I have committed to watching more of the older soaps. I feel all over the place, and can not figure out a schedule that seems to work.  How are you all doing it?   Thanks. I will check that out.
    • Oh, poor Henry had to wait for the grave to finally come "out"! The whole things was McTavish plot dictated so that Hart could have money to pull off his scam of Roger later. The fortune is totally forgotten later. Which reminds me WHY did they fire Hilliard who actually could kinda pass for a midwestern farm boy..from JOISEY Grillo? AM and Lucy's wedding has got to be the weirdest wedding up to that point and really exemplified the McLaiby cheesy run. Universal Studios? And the Spauldings shut the place down for the wedding that only involves 6 people??? Its not even that weird that Bridget and David arent there...they didn't even invite AM's Mom or Grandfather...
    • It seems easy to be empathic that if a random man raised his voice to me at the mall today, I would not be appeased if he later went and apologized to my sister. I like giving the character more to do, because there is a value in representing a person with a congenital disorder being employed, given that the unemployment rate in that community tops 83%.  I just hope they find a voice for the character that matches her functioning ability.  As for Cat, I wonder if she is going to inherit any of Clyde's money?  And that was the reason for the phone call.  I know he's not dead, but he could have named her family as the beneficiary of some insurance policy if he were to be incapacitated.  And the call could have been an attorney trying to reach her to give her money.
