Members YRBB
The things Y&R could do if it had DAYS' old $1.6 million budget, or even GH's $1.3......
Members CSF
What's amazing is that with Y&R's budget of $1.25 million, they put both Days and GH to shame and their budgets were both higher than Y&R's.
Administrator Toups Posted April 8, 2009 Administrator Share Posted April 8, 2009 DAYS ruled the 18-34 demos and had pretty good 18-49 demos too. JER made DAYS/Corday a lot of money.
Members MarkH
I'm thinking $100K/episode. If that is right, what ARE they paying Grant Aleksander? $1,000/ep? Chump change....
Members rangethatrover
I wonder what the bastard child's (OLTL) budget is? probably in the $850-950,000 range?
Members UKBoi
I think Y&R are very good with their budget. A lot of the sets have been there for decades and even the newer ones are recycled (wasn't the Restless Style office formerly an apartment that JT and Mac lived in, and Victor before them?). Quality investment at the start saves money in the long run.
Members Rakesh
Just because they were on a low rated soap doesn't mean they were paid very cheap. I guess Kim Zimmer makes $10 a week then. lol
Members bellcurve
That was actually 1998. I remember that very, very well. I think NBC yanked all promo ads from the show during the tense negotiations and played these 5 second cheesy promos in between 18-49 NBC Primetime shows for months, before the renewal was announced. To think, in retrospect, NBC was arrogant enough to replace DAYS with PASSIONS! LOL.
Members CSF
I wonder if it's a little lower, or like slightly above AMC's at the moment.
Members Adam
I don't think its the bastard anymore.... I think that is AMC in Frons eyes. Probably OLTL gets more money at the moment....
Members CSF
Since OLTL is under budget, I wonder if Frons' takes their left over cash and gives it to GH. I wouldn't put it past him.
Members EricMontreal22
Yeah I love OLTL and I think some OLTL fans use the ABC's Red Headed Bastard Step child expression a bit too much for the show... It's not liek they treat it the way they treated Loving/The City
Members Y&RWorldTurner
OLTL has always been considered the "forgotten soap" in some respect. Out of all the soaps on the air now, it's the one with that's probably least embedded in pop culture. A lot of people simply know it as the soap that's between AMC and GH - it has traditionally been overshadowed by those two.
Members Gray Bunny
:::yawn::: The former Passions boys aren't paid alot. That's why we get to 'enjoy' scenes with Rafe and Sami's son (another cheap young newbie we will be seeing a lot more of... as I watch a lot less of DAYS!) Members Amity
ATWT manages their budget terribly as far as the cast goes... they have a plethora of people on contract that they never use. All those vets still on contract that are on maybe twice a year on average CAN'T be cheap! They currently have 23 contract cast members... how many of those do we actually SEE?!
