With news that

for the characters of Ana and Tyra in Genoa City anymore.

It is not fair to Ms. Marcille to keep her in "Genoa City"

. Given that the actress has oodles of opportunities, and that maybe her character has not "caught on" as well as some have hoped, perhaps it would be best for all concerned if she could spread her wings and seek new opportunities?

I say this with full respect, as I do not wish this performer to feel she is being picked on.

Neil is now just like Victor, replacing his old family with a new one. Instead of a talented and rarely seen adopted seen and a good wife, he replaced them with a grown woman that has a crush and a singing child.

As opposed to Victor, Neil won't have Karen and Devon waiting for him when he's done with his character changes.

i'll second that drumbeat and throw in a "get thee to the runway" for good measure. Eva's beautiful but she has no business being on Y&R. Maybe DOOL or one of the other shows where green actors can run amok, but not here. But the writers truly didn't do any favors for her or anyone else in the Winter's vacuum story. I'll never understand why MAB can tell compelling stories on all fronts but this one.

AMEN! I just hope Maria Bell finds someway to make this show more diverse..... in an interesting and compelling way though.

Her only weakness so far is her lack of vision in that department.... I think Olivia is key to rebuilding the Winters in Genoa City.... convince Tonya to sign on for a more leading role!

Okay, so I agree too. There are a few troubling things in this otherwise great MAB regime.

1. Recycling (e.g., Jill and Kay, much as I love it, is not "moving forward"). Ashley and baby does appear to be a rehash of Sabrina and baby.

2. Over-reliance on death (e.g., Kay, Brad) to propel big stories (except Brad, frankly, has petered off in all but Sharon's story...and that is as an unexpressed backstory now)

3. Relegation of vast numbers of characters to the perpetual backburner, probably with the goal of elimination (e.g., Doug Davidson, Sursok, Bryton, etc.)

4. Lack of diversity (though I have a little hope with Rafe/Estella, and I can't believe Y&R would lose its African American base totally).

Marcille might be fine...but not with Neil...not this story.

It really is time to let Eva go. Kristoff St. John is amazingly hot for his age and a good actor, but he tends to come off as stuffy and boring, and he needs an exciting actress like Rowell to complement his sluggish qualities. Nia, though a likeable actress, wasn't the one to do it, and certainly Eva isn't. I do think TPTB see some kind of spark in Eva that is obviously lost on us and plan on keeping her around. It's bad enough that the African American characters, with the exception of boring, drippy Lily, seem so segregated from the rest of the cast. Could they at least write half-way intriguing stories for their AA characters and cast some interesting actors in the roles?

I will agree with you on all those points.... the death thing could potentially get really old, really fast..... I hope future exits the next year or two are ones that do not end in death.... I will make an exception for Cane though.... PAINFUL AGONIZING DEATH for him..... as DeeDee has said numerous times in reference to him:

HATE!

I think the show sees her as someone who can get attention and she can as I often see her with name stars and talk of reality shows. She knows how to get publicity. It is certainly not based on any talent. Eva probably sees the show as one big stepping stone to bigger and better things. Meanwhile, we have to put up with her lousy acting.

Neil has always been a stuffed shirt. Latham tried to loosen him up, but that was not consistent with Neil's history or personality. Indeed, I think Neil's very repressive tendencies helped lead him to the bottle after Malcolm's death.

Kristoff is not just hot for HIS age...he is hot for ANY age.

There must be some way to harness all that.

I know, he felt so out of place. His presence was not needed.

I still can't believe Eva is only a year older than me (25)...... only 3 yrs older than Christel for god sakes. How old is Tyra supposed to be? 30's at least I'd say.

    • I'm not sure if the boy Carrie 2 seduced (I think his name was Ron) was still in high school or in college, but I remember he was very shy. I don't recall her making a pass at Alan, but she did make one at Justin, and she ended up banging Josh. I think there was an out of town business man too. Reva thought Josh and Vanessa were having an affair. Vanessa had just been fired by Roger, and when Reva took off to India, Van started helping Josh with the children. He then hired Van to work at Lewis. She would hear him on a business call with Van and think they were arranging a tryst. Or they sat too close together on the couch, so of course they were hiding an affair from her. It was very weird and blew up really quick.  It culminated at the party Reva was throwing at the club to introduce Dylan to Justin. Reva imagined everyone whispering about her and then she dumped a tray of drinks on Vanessa. When Vanessa hauled her into the ladies room to ask WTF, Reva accuses them of having an affair, asks if Van's pregnant, and then knocks her to the floor. I do think Claire had a tumor. I know around Valentine's day, Claire is making passes at a young businessman (or maybe even someone college age), and Ross (Van kinda pushed her at him because she's not keen on Calla). There's also a young intern played by Burke Moses that I think she sleeps with.

If the standard of play in the women's final yesterday wasn't of the highest caliber, that is not something you could say about today's final. It was absolutely fantastic tennis.
    • When Barbara's letter was read (partly in Barbara's voice), there was commenting upthread that Barbara's voice is similar to the voice of Naomi's unhoused client June.  It did sound like her.  June is played by Jasmine Burke.  Per closing credits, Barbara was voiced by Sherita Bolden.  Still possible that they are connected. From our discussion on the May thread:  Looks and/or voices similar between June, Haley, and Tracy.   Tracy looks like Debbi Morgan. LOL so June might be connected to Haley, Tracy, or Barbara; and/or Samantha&Tyrell. I love that we don't know!
    • In the 1987 episodes, Mary has wonderful conversations with MJ and Cheryl. This is a realistic family with believable dynamics. Mary's ambivalence towards Vince is played nicely. Denise Alexander is so good here. I don't know what happened that the writers or producers just decided to chuck it all away. I don't FF these scenes. The show had a strong family that could have had years of storyline and they did nothing with them. I really don't get it.
    • I can't speak for Sonni, but I thought Annie came off as neurotic from very early on. That's just how Cynthia Watros plays her parts, and the writing went along. I don't think Claire was mentally ill - they claimed she had a brain tumor, didn't they? I am never sure just why they made the effort given that she was leaving anyway.
    • @DeeVee Claire is a perfect example. So many women came to Springfield as competent, smart, and talented professionals. Then they’d attract a so-called “good guy,” get dumped, and spiral into complete chaos. What always strikes me is how clearly it plays like a male fantasy—yet it was written and sold to a female audience.  I'm not a content expert, but I don't think cis gendered women fantasize about losing control of their mental faculties in response to an orgasm. Similar to Holly's story, it seems repulsive, because I don't believe women fantasize about becoming more vulnerable and appealing to men after they've been assaulted.
    • I just watched some parts of an episode of GL where Roger has just been shot by Holly. Rita then admits to Hillary that Roger raped her. Kasdorf is such a fantastic actress. I wish there were more of her work available.
    • -- Alex Alegria has almost a full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a large tatt on one pec. I see no indication that the show is covering up his ink,
    • Didn't Carrie2 even seduce a minor? Ick. Oh, yeah, and she even tried to seduce Alan, but this was his post-prison era when he was trying to prove to everyone he had changed. It's funny that of all people he didn't go for it. Wait. Josh had an affair with Vanessa? Or she just thought he did? I know people always say "it's just a soap" but the way mental illness is portrayed on soaps (and that goes for pretty much all of them) has always been not great, especially PPD. They practically turned Claire into The Joker. She also was trying to seduce men. (I notice that now Mary Ryan Munisteri is listed as co HW with Ryder in the 1986 episodes, Claire has calmed down a lot. Never thought her GL career was very good but seems like she tried to course correct that a bit).
