Y&R: Jill To Be Temporarily Recast

Without Jill on the show, would they even bother bringing Phillip, and thus Nina, back? I know this is all speculation, but it's so damn intriguing.

Like I said in another thread, I think if Nina returns with Phillip, they could have Jill assume the role of Katherine and Nina and Phillip could parallel Jill and Phillip III in a sense, kinda like the 80s when Brenda was still playing Jill. Only this would have a slightly different take on it. How many interesting and fresh stories can they come up with? And what would be Phillip's purpose. Nina and Jill don't get along. Phillip is her grandson (especially if they undid that Cane crap), that would make for some interesting story. If Jill isn't happy with the way Phillip turned out, she would blame Nina, that would have an ongoing feud, like Kay and Jill. I mean, Kay isn't going to live forever. I think if you get rid of Jill and then Kay remains, it's kinda weird. And saying Jill has no ties left because Billy has the Abbotts, Kay is in the same situation as is Paul (and yes, I know he gets like no airtime). Other than Mac returning, what family ties does Kay have? She and Jill are in the same boat.

There are still possibilities for Jill. And I know I'm speculating all this Phillip/Nina, Cane undoing stuff, but, it's just to show stuff can be done with Jill instead of writing her off.

I say just bring on Deborah Adair, Susan Pratt, Anna Stuart, Maureen Garrett, or Susan Sullivan as Jill and bring on Snapper (William Epsy Grey) and Greg (Jim Houghton). She really dont need family in town to live there. Nikki really doesnt have family there nor does Paul other than there kids. Christine Blair lived in Genoa City for years without family. I would just like to see the Fosters back in the town they grow up in.

Not to go off topic, but you have to wonder where this leaves poor Doug Davidson. Paul is a much less important character than Jill. Rumor was that they had planned on doing away with the character, but was spared at the 11th hour when they decided to axe Don Diamont instead. Did Doug take a massive pay cut/guarantee cut during his last contract negotiations? He only had, what, 3 appearances in March? His thing with Nikki is just a layover story, and a rarely played one at that, til they reunite her with Victor. After that, what could they possibly keep him around for?

He had 2 appearances in February, 3 in March. Really sad. :( Depressing, really. But to be totally fair, he ain't exactly much fun when he does appear.

Yeah, I gotta agree, Paul is yawn city. I would have rather they cut him than Don Diamont. But with that being said, I'd rather see Paul go than Jess in a war over her contract. There is no need for Paul.

Nikki is becoming such a minor character I'm starting to wonder what's going to happen to her when the next window for her contract opens.

All of this is why I couldn't be happy about Kay and Jill being unrelated, because Jill already has few strong ties to the other characters. Her relationships with Victor and Jack used to be much stronger than they are now. Her relationships with Cane and Billy are both so limited, she's had the same types of scenes with them for years. I realize they could still phase her out even if she were Kay's daughter, but when I heard they were going to rewrite history again, I wondered to myself if they had ulterior motives.

They may have known Sony was going to play hardball with her contract.

I don't know anything about backstage, but some of the vets like Nikki, Jill, they've been so marginalized in recent times, now that we know about the contract negotiations with Jess I wonder if Sony is dictating some of these changes.

From my understanding, the employees at Y&R (and B&B) get paid from the Bell Dramatic Serial Company, not Sony.

I don't know... I think fat could be trimmed in other ways. There are 3 contract players that can be dropped to recurring, Thad Luckinbill, Amelia Heinle, and Bryton... you can get rid of Bryton "I'm such a star I don't have to use my last name" McClure, and that would help alot. Get rid of Tyra/Ana/Karen, and give Kristoff St. John soemthing ELSE to do. Make him a big mover and shaker in business, instead of this milquetoast "dad". The other way is to FIRE all 5 of their hair and makeup people, and make the actors do their own.. it would probably look better! I STILL don't know why this 60 minute serial needs 7 writers, when in the 70's, a 30- minute show had 2 writers. Can't they write this show with 4... or 5? Another option is to put a HALT to any new background scores, and only use what they got in the library, there's PLENTY OF IT.

I highly doubt they knew Jess was going to walk out when they initially planned on telling this story...

Pretty much.

Jill has never needed horrible albatrosses (CANE) to justify her existance, she has, does & can do just fine on her own.

All this talk about how Jill has no family...wth? She has two sons and ex-lovers in town, she's got her lifelong enemy living in the same house, what do you all think she needs? A brother and a sister to remain relevant? That's silly. Paul, Christine, Michael, Phyllis, KAY, etc. remained relevant and involved in story for YEARS without large families and some without family at all. She has two kids heavily involved in story, the same with Nikki, they're only as relevant as the writers choose to make them.

Keep Thad, Amelia & Bryton.

Drop Goddard, Sursok, Graziadei, Frantz, Rikaart, Bregman, Chapman, Shackelford, Peebles, Marcille, Nash & Khalil.

Let's see how much the Bell's really respect her. As I mentioned before, Sony doesn't do the contracts at Y&R. That's handled directly by the Bell's via the Bell Dramatic Serial Company. Eileen Davidson said her contract with Y&R was handled directly by the Bell's when she came back, and I know for a fact that writer's are paid via the Bell Dramatic Serial Company, not Sony.
