[Smart] Characters Who Watch Soaps

Recently, I have spotted a number of characters on different shows that watch soaps. I like it, maybe because more often than not, they are smart, educated people, and not trailer trash. Can you name some? The ones I know of are:

Gregory House, from HOUSE (they even had a whole episode resolve around his fave soap, even though it pissed me off because the whole tone was kind of condescending)

Joan from MAD MEN (fan of AS THE WORLD TURNS)

Miranda Bailey from GREY'S ANATOMY (she's a fan of daytime television)

Who else is a daytimer and freely admits it? Are there any daytime soap characters that watch soaps?

the teacher on Dawsons Creek watchs Days. Funny since it was shortly after Pacey and his teacher, played by DAYS' Leann H, had an affair.

Pacey watched soaps in an episode too, but he wasnt exactly smart.

Dr Cox on Srubs watch's Days. As does Fran on The Nanny.

There is a website somewhere with a list of soap opera scenes being showen on other shows/movies, but ive lost the link.

Fran also watches Y&R, B&B, AMC and the fictitious 'One Day After Another'.

Frasier - Niles watches Y&R for a brief period while recovering from an operation.

Futurama - Some of the characters watch 'All My Circuits'.

American Dad! - Roger watches AMC.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - Not exactly a smart character, but Jazz mentions at one point that he requires "complete silence during The Young and the Restless".

That's from the first season "Breakfast Club"-like episode, right? I remember the teacher was watching a scene with Sami and Kate and they actually showed it.

Jack, Janet, and Chrissy from "Three's Company" watched Y&R and GH. On "The Jeffersons," Florence and some of her friends watched AMC and RH, and on "Sanford and Son," Fred watched lots of soaps, especially DAYS (he even recapped one of Mickey's storylines once).

Not too smart...

Jack McFarland on "Will&Grace" made numerous B&B quips during the shows run.

As Y&R-fan stressed "The Nanny's" Fran Fine was a soap buff. She was extremely heavy on AMC ("I haven't seen in a month - I wonder if the party at Erica's is over by now?") and B&B/Y&R with remarks and even a crossover to CBS Television City.

On American Dad, Roger is also a big fan of Dynasty and attended a retrospective at the Smithsonian iirc.

On Everybody Hates Chris, Chris's dad is a serious Y&R fan and he goes ballistic when someone screws with the vcr and it doesn't tape his story.

On Will & Grace, I think it was Jack and Grace bickering (? I don't remember), but Will referred to them as "Gabrielle and Tina". I thought that was a good one that only a select few of us would get.

Everybody Loves Kristoff!

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Kristoff St. John is taking a quick break from portraying Neil to guest star on an episode of the CW sitcom EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS in which he’ll play… himself! Watch for the fan favorite to appear in a police lineup after he’s mistakenly believed to be the reckless driver who hit Greg (Vincent Martella) with a car. Watch for Chris’ mom, Rochelle, who’s played by former RYAN’S HOPE actress Tichina Arnold (Zena), to enthusiastically request St. John’s autograph after she sees him. (Hey, who wouldn’t?) St. John’s episode of EVERYBODY airs on Friday, March 20, at 8 pm ET.

    • I think all the suits are fit too tight, except for Jon Lindstrom's. DC lawyers/doctors are not all LA fashion elites. Yes, maybe Tomas would have a more modern cut to his suit, but an established guy like Bill wouldn't go around looking like that lonely button on his jacket was ready to explode constantly.
    • I do think there's room for optimism, especially with Amazon making enough new episodes to last until December. There's still time for the various players to get their ducks in a row. Guess we'll know soon enough!
    • I do agree it's better to just have people pop back into town. I never understood why Roger needed a mask on an island, when neither Fletcher or Alex would've known who he was. And the vine...sigh. Couldn't he have just been sent crashing through a window or something?
    • When the announcement was first made, I did wonder if other plans were in the works. I guess we can always keep hoping, especially as the show has a small core cast.
    • @chrismlAbout Lisa, agree to disagree. Actually at the time she was the only thing my partner & I disagreed about. Naturally she was Team Vicky while I was steadfast as Team Lisa.  About John & twin paternity, I think that like the 3 pillows was a transitory idea someone had that no one else agreed with. More of the attempt to accommodate Philece. About MJ, co-sign, 100% agree, if there were more degrees I would claim them. About Wally & Felicia, always a fan. Mitch? Eh, take or leave. Although I do agree that WGE is a really striking man. Who have I left out? I don't know so that's all I got.

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.
