OLTL: Discussion for the week March 9

Gah I hope there's more to this Stacy character than what I saw today.

I have hopes that maybe RC could pull a Douglas Marland pull a Angel Lange with Stacy? But only by the grace of God could I endure such a story with CH in the role.

Everything else was fantastic and I loved how everything seemed to mesh so well today.

Between Blair's stabbing, the car crash histrionics and Stacy's ill-conceived "revelation episode", this episode was WAY too melodramatic for me. I wish they'd take some of these reveals a little more slowly, and hit the subtle button more often. Starr was particularly a hot tranny mess (two notches above 'hot mess') in this episode, and considering the writing, I can barely blame her for the overacting.

Starr's general dialogue today:

MY MOTHER WAS STABBED?!

WHO WOULD STAB MY MOM?!?!

AUNT DORIAN, WHY WOULD YOU SAY MY DAD STABBED MY MOM?!

MY DAD WOULD TELL ME THE TRUTH IF HE STABBED MY MOM, I MEAN, HE TOLD ME HE THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW HE WAS PLANNING TO STEAL MY BABY!!!

COLE WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT?!

MATTHEW WAS IN THE CAR TOO?!?!?!

Okay, so I'm paraphrasing a little, but this was all I was getting from Starr during the whole episode. TOO MUCH. There was so much screeching and wailing in this episode between Dorian, Starr, Marty, John, Bo, and Gigi, I just found myself laughing at it all. And I know soaps tend to use these catastrophic episodes to submit for Best Drama Emmy reels, but I REALLY hope they resist the urge with this episode. And it's a shame because the episodes around Nash's death were also melodramatic, but in the better way. This was just random messiness.

This is a weird place for me. The lone dissenting voice amongst all the how bad is OLTL. But I have to say, today's show wasn't that bad. I loved all the parent/child scenes. My big problem? This is stuff that should happen ALL THE FUHREAKIN' TIME! JMO. Families should be interacting. Family drama should be a major part of every show. Not reserved for sweeps.

Well yes it was. I was joking about the super strength. LOL ;)

I liked the Nora/Matthew/Bo/Michael scenes, especially the last scene when Michael and Bo kept looking at each other.

Some of the specifics have been iffy this week, but the overall tone of the show has improved. Yes, it's been overly melodramatic, however, I like that better than fearfully waiting for David Vickers to pop up and start pulling rubber chickens out of Blair's stab wounds or Moe and Noelle swinging by Matthew's hospital room to deliver a pie and a punchline.

Yes, clearly OLTL has been misusing David Vickers and not accurately portraying him as the dark, gritty antihero he truly is. A true story about David and Dorian would feature, say, a hepatitis scare, or Darfur.

date: Monday, May 12 | Sara A. Bibel, Jazmen Darnell Brown | Anthony Pascarelli Teddy Boy. Teddy Bear. DEADBEAT! Now we know where Deadbeat gets it from. Vanessa in a random two-second spotting with Deadbeat? Oh, okay then! Dana is selling herself to Nicole right now. Oh, look who it is... Anita showing up to support Dani in her demure confrontation with Deadbeat2. Mona is not playing with Eva; from "backstabbing heifer" to "girl bye", she is not playing with her. At all. Joey is fully playing Vanessa, and she's so easily falling for it. C'mon, honey, don't do that. Shanice is going to be a comfort board for Douglas when he takes her advice and helps him heal himself. Mona going off on Dana just like she deserves. Mama Dupree went off: "Handle your business!" Could Eva and Randy be potentially paired for a one-night stand? That could be an interesting twist. Damn Mona with the continued burns, this time for Dana: "Hell was made for people like you, Leslie. Enjoy the burn." Anita questioning her own decisions and instincts feels really natural and real. It's a nice change of pace from the other matriarchs we've seen established in American daytime. Now the true Dana/Ted scenes are coming out. Anita warning Eva that she'll never be a part of the Dupree family shows the claws are fully out. Teddy fully calling Dana "demented" and "psychotic" is going to cause some problems, won't it? Notes: I fully need Maurice Johnson (Ted) gone yesterday; his performances are just not selling to me. Love seeing Tamara Tunie (Anita) beginning to get her teeth into the meat of the scripts. It's about time. Karan Kendrick (Mona) delivered today!!! She's such a breath of fresh air.
    • Oh yeah Leslie is Sheila Carter levels of delulu    Damnit, Ambyr Michell you gutted me with that quivering lip
    • Damn, Anita doesn't play, that was pretty vicious.  I hope Eva gets her redemption.

I doubted the tests but i liked that htey had Nicole as a doctor mention that the test also had genetic markers that matched Teds that Leslie really wouldnt have been able to fake. I think most people thought the test only said 99.999% chance match but its more detailed than that
    • I love Jon Lindstrom on GH...  but I don't enjoy him as Joey, at all.  Joey is a dud character.   And I don't feel any Joey/Vanessa heat at all.  I can see that the actors are trying to show it but it doesn't come off as believable to me. And it's obvious that Joey is using Vanessa and doesn't care a bit about her.

    • I disagree, Jon Lindstrom is boring as hell on this show and the Joey character is not clicking.  When Anita went on and on about how she landed the ideal man in Vernon and what a saint he is - I just hoped that Vernon knocked a few other women up somewhere.
    • Jon Lindstrom has the same type of smoking hot chemistry with Lauren Buglioli that he has with Lynn Herring

    • Ohh good idea! And yes, today's writer is my favorite and he's definitely not disappointing today.
    • What’s hilarious is what when the Dupree’s get messy, everyone kisses their asses, excuses it, and Anita and Vernon go into coverup mode. Those Dupree’s are such hypocrites (but the writing tries to paint them as totally right/moral) and we need more people to call that out beyond Leslie and Eva.
