Re: Recreated flashbacks

Something about those flashbacks have been eating away with me, and it has nothing to do with Jenna & Buzz or the Coopers.

With the reunion of the Four Musketeers coming up, it seems pretty obvious that they probably won't incorporate any flashbacks (gah I fear the thought of recreating them!) with the scenes involving the four, simply due to the fact that Wheeler and Co. apparantly want us to forget the fact that GL was once a show that once had skilled camera operators. However I'll withold my official judgement until the episode actually airs.

Judi Evans played Beth until 1986, so they can't show anything of Beth at the time the Four Musketeers were in high school. Kimberly Simms was playing Mindy when Beth Chamberlin took over as Beth in 1989, so they can't show any clips of Mindy from that time. Even if they were going to show flashbacks it couldn't involve the four of them together because these four actors did not appear together until 2002.

They almost didn't have a choice, since Robert Newman kept coming and going. I also don't think Josh has ever had the same family connections, even though he was one of the first Lewises in Springfield. He wanted to get away from his family, he held them at arms length. This has continued through his children, Marah and Shane, who both tried to get away from the Lewis family in one way or another. Billy just has more of a natural sense of humor and love of family, like HB had. It's why I like his relationship with Reva, because Reva at her best is about family and fun, not about the more unpleasant aspects of her personality which DK/EW seemed to focus on.

I didn't realize how much Billy meant as a character until Jordan Clarke had to be written out and was replaced by the awful Geoffrey Scott. I also don't think Vanessa was ever the same after his departure, although they had already taken away too much of Vanessa's fire, it accelerated with Matt and especially when they brought Wendy Moniz's Dinah in.

The strength of the Lewis family at their best, the spark they can still have, is why I was annoyed at how they squandered Dylan's return, with bad recasting and from the little I saw, a bad return story. I hope if they get a chance they will reintroduce him with another actor, and bring Mindy back for further appearances.

GL was good yesterday. I enjoyed all the Reva scenes. Don't get me started on Otalia. OMG, I LOVE these two ladies. I've said this so many times before, whoever is writing for this potential couple, should try and write for others too. How can you NOT love Otalia? lol

Boy is Lizzie an annoying little shrew as far as Alan and Phillip are concerned. If Lizzie wasn't such a legacy character, I would have no problem seeing Grady kill her on his way out.

Boy didn't she look like an ass today as Alan was being carted off to jail.

A part of me wonders if they were trying to be somewhat comedic with Lizzie going around claiming that Phillip kidnapped her.

I find it reasonable that Rick sided with Alan today on keeping an eye on Phillip. However if Rick distrusted Phillip so much after taking Jude, why did he help him fake his death?

They've made Lizzie dumber and dumber and dumber, I wish they could put on the brakes. Lizzie's a good legacy character played by a good actress, there's no reason to make her scenes excruciating. I think the direction may be the biggest problem.

I think Lizzie is cracking under the strain, and with parents like Beth and Phillip, who have both had their mental health issues, it's not that out of the blue. And I'm really not sure I'd trust ex-whacko daddy dearest right away either. It pisses me off that she's back in Alan's camp...if she was really that scared, why doesn't she go to Billy, who was her daddy substitute not so long ago?

What I hated (and this is purely nitpicking) was that dumb, long-ass scarf, that looked like it was going to trip Marcy as she stormed about. And I suddenly loathe watching Lizzie walk. Just visually, it reminds me how short and doll-like she is. Yes, I know I'm nuts, but all this week she's had on clunky black shoes that just don't go with her outfit.

Two questions...when did Mallet go back to using Camaletti as his surname, and didn't Dinah use her engagement ring to do something "nice" for Marina a few months ago or something?

I think a mental breakdown story could work down the road, but for right now Lizzie's had so much trauma, she needs a break. She comes across as dumb, or crazy, to keep flipping out all the time and to keep trusting Alan.

More and more I think they should send Alan on a long break. Have him disappear, and have Phillip or Alex take over the company, and then deal with the fallout when he returns, if he returns.

Today was a perfect example at how disparate the range of quality is on this show right now. We had such wonderful high points and such terrible low points.

High: BILLY AND MINDY! EEEEEE! Seeing those two together again was like coming home after a few years and smelling dinner baking in the oven. It was a perfect moment. PLEASE! PLEASE! Let us see a full-length Mindy/Billy conversation at least once before she has to go.

The reunion scenes were flawless. From the feeling of awkward nostalgia that always hangs throughout the room to the wonder at seeing people from high school all grown up, it was wonderful and Michael O'Leary proves yet again why that man is one of the greatest comedic actors in daytime. He cracked me up the whole hour through. "Pizza Face" LMFAO!

Grant, Listen to me: Mark this date. Today is March 6th. Remember it because you have part 1 of your Emmy reel for next year. His scene with Lizzie and his monologue about Lizzie as a child was beautiful and so poignant. God, It's SO great to have Phillip home.

NOW: The Low.

THERE WAS WAY TOO MUCH GRADY! I can't believe that a scene like the ones at the reunion could cut to that guy's ugly mug. I know they are trying tot ell a story, but trust us. This could literalyl take 1 scene. Have Lizzie find out. Have her kill him in self-defense. And no one will care! Not us, we'll just give her a medal.

Everytime I saw Buzz today I cringed. When he stormed into the mansion, my first thought was "NO WIRE HANGERS EVER!"

Definitely Dan. Getting rid of Grady is taking way too damn long. I know they're trying to set-up a who-dunnit but the problem with that is that NOBODY CARES!!! We don't care who kills him because we just want him dead so badly. It could be over and done with in 30 seconds flat. Them wasting all this time on his exit is just alienating people who came back for Phillip, the 4Ms, and Otalia but still can't stomach all this horrid crap that made them tune out in the first place.

Having McRapist sue Reva next week because he wants "that child" ripped prematurely out of "my woman", against her will if necessary, ain't gonna help either.

I loved the reunion. A nice break from all the angst, and the actors are all so believable as friends, even when some oaf them didn't grow up together. And Billy and Mindy, what a cute little scene, one that was so them.

I almost wonder if they should pair Buzz and Lizzie up. Imagine all that screeching in unison.

OK. I caught Friday's episode because the Four Muskateers and near and dear to my heart. I graduated in 1984 as well and back then, this story kept me and my friends glued to GL.

What a let down. Was it like, 15 minutes showing the reunion? I'm sorry. I'm from small town and there's not alot of money for public education there either. But at my reunion, we didn't sit in folding chairs under FOLDING tables. And we certainly DIDN'T eat out of the trays they served you in school. Did EW think that having the four of them eat out of those trays would make things more realistic?!?!?!? How sad. It was great seeing Mindy again, and I absolutely love me some BC as Beth (my fave Beth). However, for me, the reunion fell flat because BC was not in the role back in the 80s and it was hard for me to imagine BC playing "Beth" then instead of JE. Another thing - couldn't they have gotten a few more extras to mill around at the reunion? For crying out loud, they ain't paid much unless they open their mouths. I guess they spent all that cash on having Pizza Face talk as much as she did. Other than the nostalgia, the scenes weren't all that great. They should have had some flashbacks of Mindy, Philip and Rick at least.....

And the majority of the show was Grady. UGH.

I think I'm fixin to take GL off the DVR schedule again. I record Y&R and GL and it's really hard for me go to from watching the most fabulously produced show on daytime to the worst. They should have splurged a little more on the reunion given all the hype they surrounded it with. I even heard an ad on the radio for GL last week! When was the last time that has happened for ANYTIME daytime soap?

I loved the show. I applaud what they are doing..and I wonder what Y/R would look like with GL's budget. I find studio bound shows to look stactic, face, and very unrealistic. I love what they are doing. I just can't stand the music. Keep up the good work GL....I know there are many who agree with me...I say to each their own...I'm very entertained by this show for the past few months...yes...there are problems..but as far as current TV goes...day or night...I think GL is good...and getting better...

I should have typed static, fake, and unrealistic...sorry

    • sss Ms. Tunie is a goddess. I feel all the anger, pride, sadness, arrogance, dignity, fear, love, and other emotions in everything she does as Anita.
    • You're right. People like me who stuck with her, did so because of her history. The show just skated her along with no story,  no goal, no aim. Right again! This is who I forgot before. When you describe her, it makes me appreciate her more. Thinking back I loved Mandy.
    • Maybe Guza is becoming Y&R Head writer and Jilly will be named EP! Remember CBS installed Latham as consultant and later Mal Young, both of whom took over the show. Of course, they each got credit during the consulting days.
    • Don't forget Carrie, who as Carrie2 was screwing everything in pants, and PPD Reva, who to either get back at Josh for his supposed affair with Vanessa (or just to prove she's more desirable than Van) tries to screw half the male population.
    • Post-production isn't exactly akin to sweeping the floors, but it makes more sense given her CV.  And, it would invalidate any concerns that she has an undo influence on the creative process, as opposed to visual and sound design of the show.  In fact, given her interests, it makes sense that she would want to consult and see the impact of newer technology in a post-production facility.  I could only imagine how much has changed in sound technology since she worked on SB, and that might be intriguing to utilize. As well as their impending move (not as soon as B&B, but we all know it will happen) and helping set up post-production at the new facility.
    • The last five or so episodes of season 8 after the Jean Hackney story ended were pretty strong with the Laura/Val friendship breakdown, Ben's PTSD with Val trying to help him, and the start of Jill realizing that Val was as much of a threat to her happiness with Gary as Abby was. I always thought that the Jean Hackney story should have ended at mid season at the latest... and then deal with the fall-out because seeing Ben/Val switch roles with Ben in mental decline instead of Val would have been interesting to explore.  And seeing Val and Laura's friendship suffer also was interesting and should have been explored especially with Karen caught in the middle and Abby both intrigued and amused at the conflict that she didn't cause. However, season 8 was the only Latham run season where Val was well written.
    • Well, she's not in there sweeping the floors at the end of the night, and you don't bring in an award-winning producer to just sit on their backsides (or hey, maybe you do!). Again, without knowing the specific capacity she's in there working as⏤and it seems as if we are not going to at the present time⏤it's hard to speculate/discuss. I would interpret she's in a role that either would not require being credited, or she's, as others have speculated, is back and not receiving credit for the work she's done. That'd be like saying, per the WGA, all writers must be credited, but as we've seen by those who've worked as fi-core, they don't always receive credit.

And, if my research is correct, per the DGA, you can request not to be credited for work you do. I could only assume the same would be for the PGA, as well.
    • When Anita read Barbara's letter, it started out with the viewers hearing it in Barbara's voice as Anita read silently. And then Anita saying the next portion aloud while Barbara's voice continued simultaneously. And then ending with Anita alone saying the last part aloud. Excerpt from interview  (link to full interview) The rest may be spoilerish -- Only the nonspoiler part here: I love the idea of reading that letter,” shares Tunie. “And at one point in the script, I think it said that my voice joined her, and [Anita] started reciting the letter from memory because [she] memorized this letter. I suggested to Steve Williford, our director, ‘What if it’s like that moment in Hamilton when Hamilton is writing the resignation letter to George Washington, and then he starts saying it too, and then Hamilton’s voice fades away, and then it’s all George. What if we do something like that?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, my God! I just got chills. Let’s do it!’ So, we did it.” I understood that it worked really well, so I’m really happy about that.”
    • I think MVJ and Guza made a good team in the launching of the soap, and I'm hoping that the rotation of all stories and characters is maintained once he officially departs from the credits. And so far, Ron C's breakdowns have been decent... but they pop only when he's paired with a good script writer like Jazmin.   I hope once Guza leaves officially... that MVJ is able to reign in Ron C and the dread Jamey G.
    • I read that, but my interpretation was that she is uncredited because it is in a non-production capacity.  In others words, she's not secretly producing, or writing, as some had speculated prior to the confirmation. Her likeliest position would be in a post-production consultant capacity. I assume we agree on this?
